Default The worst "studio" on a forum

    Here is my "setup".

    JBL E50 BT
    JBL GO
    Traktor DJ Cable
    iPad Air 2
    DJay 2

    I have a simple rule.

If it doesn't fit into my backpack, it doesn't get into my life.

I am going to "upgrade" it with Akai LPD8 and Traktor Audio 2 (if I can make them work together via USB hub) and swap DJay 2 for DJ Player to be able to map the controller.

Why not get a Z1 and Traktor DJ?

    Good point.

The only thing that's stopping me is (correct me if I am wrong), it requires AC power.

The rest of my stuff works off batteries.

Plus, I'd still need pads and LPD-8 is cheap.

the thing is, once you get the soundcard , headphones and LPD running off of your i Pad , your i Pad battery is going to die very quick fiery deaths often. not to mention your going to have a hard time finding an unpowered usb hub that can do much more than charge a phone.

i have tried several usb midi controllers with my ipad, and far and away the most power efficient was the midi fighter classic, which thanks to its lack of RGB LEDs, uses very little battery power. the problem with the MF is i could only get it to "talk" to a few programs successfully. i did not try it with either Djay 2 or DJ player.

    Yup, it does with iOS.

You should add a decent sized backup battery to the setup, I'm sure you can find something fairly inexpensive.

I am pretty sure it doesn't exist but...

Is there any powered USB hub that can charge the iPad or iPhone it is connected to?

I was thnking about hacking some DIY verison of it. Otherwise, Traktor Audio 2 can actually charge the iPad but if I plug both the controller and the sound card, as you said, the fiery death of the battery is imminent...

MF won't talk to DJay 2, for sure. DJay 2 has a set of supported controller and that's it. No custom mappings. With DJ Player you can map any MIDI controlled and off you go.
