Default Mixing Hiphop: Setup Custom Loops

    Hey Guys

Ive been DJ'ing electronic music for a while and now i never experienced any problems with setting up a loop because it always matched my beatgrids. But right now i am practicing with some hiphop and discovered that this is kinda difficult when you cant "end" your own loops. So when you want to loop for example a chorus this mostly doesnt exactly fit between your 4, 8 or 16 count loop. I was wondering how you guys fixed this problem, without making some big changes in the latest techtools tsi files.

(Sorry if this isnt the right place for this question)

    Thanx

    Nick

I play mostly rap, and almost all of it uses the traditional 16bar verse, 8 bar chorus

that's true but is there a way to set your own loop out points?

You can set a loop in and loop out where ever you want, using loop in and loop out (rather than setting a whole loop in one go). If you need it between beats, you'll have to ensure you have snap turned off.

However, if it is between beats, you'll either have to do some grid work, or its going to go out of time real soon if you are beatmatching it with another track.

I know exactly what you mean about the vocals drifting over a beat boundary, or more importantly, a measure. Rather than a loop, you could beat juggle.

Say you have a vocal that runs for beats 1, to just over 4 (and therefore into beat 1 of the second measure). You could either loop it to a count of 8 (assuming there are no more vocals during that period), or you could just juggle it every 8 beats.

I don't know about the VCI, but it's the 8 key for in and the 9 key for out on the keyboard.

For the VCI, it depends on which mapping you are using.

On my Moonified V2.x mappings, its the play/pause and cue/play buttons that set 'loop in' and 'loop out' when in loop mode.

Lots of others will have similar functionality, but you'll have to find out how and where its implemented on the unit in their tsi.

Not every mapping has loop in and loop out set.. many just use 'set loop to x counts', but to really answer the question, you need to read the bumph that usually comes with the mapping file (or forum post) and check out how looping is set with your tsi.

Or, alter the mapping to suit your tastes.
