here goes,
i think bro step is taking off because to the general public apple ear buds do just fine.
so based on what darwin told us, only tracks more focused on the mid and highs will take off.
now when they listen to their fave screechy track live they get smacked with a wall of bass making it so much better, this holds their interest in general.
however, classic (real) dubstep tracks are ignored becasue all you generally will hear on ear buds is a spaced out kick and snare with some atmospheric sounds.
perfect example, play the following track on you laptop or equivalent speakers:

now play it again on a proper set up.
makes me shed a tear.
shameless plug. all D1 tracks. its a lot more fun on a proper set up:

still hear the odd quality tune come out, but not often.
it went exactly where electrohouse went in 2009. big mainstream success, but zero innovation and most the new releases and "big" artists are just garbage because mainstream audiences will eat whatever slop you feed them if it's trendy.
I try not to think about brostep....
Those are my thoughts.

never been a fan of dubstep since I first heard it in about 2005. It is going more mainstream as a genre deffo even britney spears is in on the action
go to 2.13 very dubsteppy sort of sound the one of the kicks aint really traditional dubstep tho

So brostep is different than dubstep? I stopped into a "dubstep" night over the weekend and couldn't believe how many times I heard people say bro. Maybe I was really at a brostep night? Either way, definitely made a difference hearing that music on a club system vs the tunes on my laptop speakers.
I'm confused about what the kids are into these days. lol
The first dubstep I actually liked was Caspa & Rusko's Fabric Live mix. And I still think it's awesome today even though it has some of Rusko's songs that I think kinda started the whole "brostep" movement. Then all my friends started listening to Excision and such, and I tried to get into that but really couldn't. Then I noticed how everyone was trying to imitate the biggest baddest dirtest nastiest robot orgy noises they could and... it's just not my thang, really.
The track was released WAY before Rusko came out and "said" that...
But have you ever listened to the vocal sample from "Gone Too Far" ?
Kinda makes you think.
