Using the regular cable won't get you a wired MIDI connection, just a charging device communicating over WIFI.

I haven't played with Lemur yet but got ideas for a custom map , how easy it to build a traktor mapping, had a look on youtube could only find ableton tutorials

I have found some midi map tutorials , would I design my template , load it onto ipad then use learn in traktor to get it to function ??? This will be my first attempt at anything like this so sorry for any stupid questions.

Plenty of apps transmit MIDI just not over the standard USB cable. If you jailbreak you can USB network tether.

hooked ipad and laptop and s4 up using lemur tried a few of the tractor templates from website didn't work very good , most of the buttons on iPad didn't do anything to track or they did the wrong thing .
