Thanks I appreciate your response. I also just got talking to a buddy of mine and we were talking about doing it free, and when we checked equipment rentals we realized it came down to $50. We realized it's best that we at least charge them $50 to cover the rental and the service. People see more value in things they pay for. Your post also gave me a huge insight, every kid in gr 12 always wants there year to have "been the best," so the way I can pitch it to them is we can give them a party that no one before them has ever had.

And that right there might seal the deal. At least get your transport/rental covered.

Make sure you get a contract stating that you are hired talent as the legal ramifications of being over 21 in a house full of drunk 17/18 yr olds is not teh business. We're talking a serious fine and about 6 months in Jail. If you are hired talent and can show proof of it, you are not legally held responsible for the actions of those kids.

I'm from Canada so the contract would be for 19 i'm assuming. Also being high school kids, they may be more of a hassle to get money from. So is a contract also going to protect me as well and encourage more of a follow through. I would obviously like to get the money before the gig so if in my contract I state something like, "For a fee of $50 I will perform for x amount of hours. Fee is to be paid by ___"?

Things you want in the contract:
    Rental Costs
    Set Costs
    Gas Mileage
    Total Costs
    Payment due by
    Cancellation Terms
    Venue
    Equipment Requirements
    Call Time
    Length of Session

Does anyone know about anything like equipment insurance, drunk high school kids and hi tech equipment just might not mesh.
