A producer's DAW is rarely a simple machine - usually it's a combination of libraries, sounds, plug-ins, and instruments. When starting a new track it isn't always as simple as grabbing a guitar or drumming out a beat on a drum set and becomes more technical, it's almost too much. Since just playing around with the music isn't as simple in the electronic world as traditional instruments, Novation has tackled this by announcing the Circuit, a brand new type of groove box.
Many moons ago there was The Bridge - a joint effort by Serato and Ableton to link the two pieces of software. When The Bridge came out five years ago there wasn't a lot of reaction from the DJ world. The software wasn't revolutionary, but it was a useful tool that has since been forgotten (or put on the back burner) by both companies. However, Andrew Robertson has developed an Ableton Live device (based on research at the Centre for Digital Music, Queen Mary University of London) called the BeatSeeker to serve as a simpler bridge between Ableton and other music-making software.

When it comes to crafting music a producer depends heavily on their monitors. It doesn't matter if the studio doubles as a bedroom or is a professional office, studio monitors and the way they are built make a huge difference into the quality of sound that is produced.
