how do I work this thing?

We are getting emails and even phones calls left and right from people asking about using Traktor Pro. for those of you that downloaded the demo and are not quite sure how to get started with the basic transport controls- this video is for you. I go through  button by button and show how to use the basic transport controls in Traktor Pro which include:

• moving around inside the song
• Setting a cue point
• storing a cue point
• mapping it to a hot bue
• creating a beat grid
• using loops

The good news is that using Traktor pro is actually much more streamlined than previous versions. You just need to know what is what, so check out this video for some simple answers.

The video is there guys, just double click on teh link to go to you tube if something is not working.

Any chance, Ean, you can do a detailed explanation of modifiers and their various functions? How to set them to Hold/Toggle, out to control LED output?
this will certainly be coming soon!
Sorry another problem here…

How do I map tempo bend to a jog wheel (eg. VCI-100 or Xponent). All that is available are button options. Phil (from the NI forums) suggested using Tempo/Tempo, direct, jog. This temporarily changes the pitch to bend.

CD JOG is what you need to use- but you will need to play around with it to find the right setting.

Niall, buddy, I like the way your brain works. You forgot to mention one of the important features regarding new Traktor4 interface: “It’s SHINY!”

• Niall

I am looking at the Advanced deck controls in a mixture of astonishment and horror. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING? Can it really be that setting cue points, moving cue points, adjusting loop lengths, adjusting loop start/end points, loop moving and beatjumping have ALL been placed into the same 1cm high little window, and that it is only possible to view one of these features at a time?

This makes Traktor Pro entirely useless for any kind of live remixing/beatjuggling, unless we are all so Pro as to not need to ever look at the settings. But I am glad that they added a gigantic A and B, I was having trouble seeing which deck was which.

Sorry another problem here…

How do I map tempo bend to a jog wheel (eg. VCI-100 or Xponent). All that is available are button options. Phil (from the NI forums) suggested using Tempo/Tempo, direct, jog. This temporarily changes the pitch to bend.

The problem with this is that it resets the pitch to 0 after bending making it unusable (since my pitch fader is not at zero). Someone else suggested using "CD-Jog" however if the track is paused and I go to scratch it scratches from my "Scratch On/Scratch" command AND from the "CD-Jog" command thus screwing everything up.

Once again thanks for the help on my previous question.

Cheers

Hey DJ ToS,

I just wanted to say "thanks" for your solution to the CUP issue in TPro.

This change from T3 was driving a bunch of us crazy looking for a work around.

If you have not seen this thread about it, you should take a look cause your suggestion saved the day. 🙂

thanks I'll try that tonight.

I’m gonna sit and really force my VCI-100 to do what I want tonight, then figure it all out from there.

Any chance, Ean, you can do a detailed explanation of modifiers and their various functions? How to set them to Hold/Toggle, out to control LED output?

Hi Ean,

Just wanna say thank you for all the amazing work you do for the community.
I am an amateur DJ in Madrid, Spain, and thanks to people like you, I can quickly find answers to my questions, and spend more time enjoying my hobby.

I’ll upgrade soon, did not really want to right now, but you made me wanna update. NI owes you at least my upgrade. 😉

Thank you again.
C.

erm I can’t get the video to work says its no longer available etc..

• DJ ToS

Pardon me, that was a miss-submit. Here are the controls:
– Jump to Act CUE (TRIGGER)
– Play/Pause (DIRECT – ON)

• DJ ToS

Sorry Kenton, my mistake, I just wrote what you’ve been asking.
Note, if you want to bind T3-style Play/Pause (that drops cue on pause) just bind both Play/Pause and Cue to the same button (in toggle mode both)

Solution for kenton is: bint these two to the same button (maye order matters)
– Jump to Act CUE

• DJ ToS

Good startup boost to understanding the interface logic.
So we are back to Traktor2-ish layout. The funny thing is, even that I liked that layout so much and have been against T3 page-system, now I miss it. Controllers are to the rescue. I’d like to start theoretising about pros and cons but it won’t help.
Next video in the line probably should be on the subject of MIDI modifiers, so that noobs don’t ask “make me a faderfox .tks file”. (and they are not tks anymore, the import/export of everything is nice). NI could, no, SHOULD have made a application that converts your old tks files into new keyboard/MIDI definition. Hmm, maybe the community could make one….no. Governed by the rule: “build one to throw away” this next input setting should be better now.

Kenton: you assign “CUP (Cue play)” and set it to “HOLD” that is the cue-play-instant

Hey Ean!

Thanks for the video, i was just about to get started with pro tonight and this vid really help.

Awesome!

• DJ Kenton

How do I map cue (play instant) from 3.4?

I don’t want to store the cue, just have it set with the in (as shown in the video) and then jump to it instantly. So far Cup only allows for a hold which throws my timing off significantly and hotcue only works for a stored cue from 1-8. Any help is appreciated.

Cheers.
