Serato Itch has a lot going for it but everyone always mentions the same thing. “man, I wish it had some effects”. Well your wishes look like they may be coming true very soon. There is leaked information floating around the web that exposes what appears to be a Vestax FX controller designed for Itch. To be honest, I cant confirm or deny the validity of the information at this time. (confirmed) Based on the quality of the image and the very official looking PDF that was also leaked, its safe to say that this is a product you will be seeing in the market soon.
The Controller
A simple and well laid out accessory controller to the VCI-300, the Vestax VFX-1 appears to be designed for 2 independent FX units. I like the large Wet Dry knob and the prominent on/off button. As long as the FX are good this one promises to be a handy controller for performance FX. Traktor users could also easily use this controller in their setups and gain some much needed fx control.
The Software
We don’t know too much about what may change in Itch but the controller suggests:
- 2 Fx units
- wet dry control
- 1 parameter control
- 2 fx per channel
- master assignable
- input assignable
- filters, delay, verb, vocoder and possibly more
Now if Itch would just support some basic midi mapping they might have a good chance at competing with Traktor Scratch Duo.
The Official Word
The PDF above, was leaked from a pro audio store in the Czech republic and posted on our forum. Its common for the manufactures to send out product information before making an announcement so that the stores are ready to sell equipment shortly after the official press release. Unfortunately, its often the case that small online stores frequently put up info before they are supposed to and product gets leaked. That appears to be the case here, so its possible the Vestax VFX-1 and a new FX enabled Itch may be coming to market sooner rather than later.

The Serato Response From the Serato forum
We at Serato have long desired to be able to provide effects to those that want them – whilst avoiding forcing them on those that don’t. We certainly have plans for effects in our DJ products. We don’t have any official announcements just yet. What I can say now is while yes, we are working on a controller with Vestax, the image in this thread will not become a final product.
Product Update
Vestax has released a final image of what the VFX-1 will look like and indicated a September release for the controller.
im noticing a SHIT load of lag issues with this controller….anyone else having the same issues ??
For those asking about the NS7, Numark has something similar for it as well.
[…] move on to tractor man they have plenty of effects just get a cheap midi controller and assign them looks like its all about waiting here 🙁 […]
Anyone heard if this is released yet? Been waiting too long 🙂
Or perhaps Itch 2.0 will deliver parity with Traktor Pro? It feels like we’re missing a lot of information that’s about to be delivered in the next 45 days or so. I impatient to know what Serato, Vestax and Native Instruments have in store for us once Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard ships.
So this would see software effects into Itch right? So at that point, couldn’t Ean (or hopefully Serato themselves) map some of the basic effect controls (paramater, level, selection…) onto the VCI-300 itself (ala what has been done with the 100SE)?
No need for the external controller then if you just want basic effect stuff.
I’ve just tKen delivery of a VCI-30 and now I’m trying to figure out if there is an easy way to drive Traktor Pro(TP) from it. Does anyone make a re-mapping software pak for Tractor Pro to be fully controlled from the VCI-300 like it can be from the VCI-100? I like all the multiple cue and effects in TP that are missing in Itch 1.1. Did I buy the wrong controller or is NI in process of being VCI-300 friendly alongside Apple’s Snow Leopard release next month?

Does anybody know or think he knows when the VESTAX VFX-1 will be available for sale?

oh noes a company that is trying to make money! What is the world coming to!
Itch is/was about recreating the most inherent part of a DJ’s setup, decks & a mixer in a simple plug n play manner.
Most Dj’s dont use effects so its pretty easy to see why they left it out in the first place.
Then everybody bitches that itch has no effects, wants the point of being digital without effects blah blah blah, and so they do something about it, and now they are getting bitched at for releasing new products!
wtf?
Looks like the unit will be going for $299.00 according to DJDeals.com:

When is something like this coming out for the Numark NS7!?
I have one of those, love it, and am going to feel stupid if something like the effects addition isn’t available for the NS7!
-DJ Slater
dont forget people that the first HID that comming out
and personally i can do lots of shit without the effects just use those that are in the thracks already
but though i will get the fx controll as soon as it comes out
I don’t really care how much it costs. I’m buying one.
i just want to say this is sounds like a bunch of shit! the itch program is a bunch of crap! this sounds all planed out. there just trying to make more money. they design this product this way so that in the future they can make more money! they knew people where going to be hungry for fx! and come on people how can they not add fx from the begganing?? its not like its a new thing !!! d.js have been around for years !! and so has the fx !! so why wouldnt they build it all in one piece in the first place? just like a fucken car you want it fully loaded and with leather seats amd a navigation system it cost more right? thats what this guys are doing!!
bad times to be asking for more money serato….if i have to send 200…i will buy try to find a vci 100 with the effects.
They are not forcing you to buy it.. I would love to use this with Itch. With this, Itch will be really complete and fun!
If this is working with itch i bet it will work with an NS7… I hope this doesnt run alot!
So i use the NSFX with conjunction of a ipad running threw the aux. Sample tanks with irig midi and irig via itouch. come to djbigdad.com for Interactive djing and yes its mobile ready!
I’m in line! Hold one or two for me 🙂
Same, i will definately be getting it!
I will buy this in a second!

The more I read, the more I believe this will work with a NS7. If it does plug into the computer through an USB connection(which is the most probable way), then that means that it would work directly with Serato ITCH software.
Thus, regardless of what controller you are using (either the VCI-300, or the NS7) you should be able to plug it into your computer and have it work because it is manipulating the software directly.
Additionally, for Vestax it would be a bad business move for it not to work with NS7; they would be alienating a large part of the new Serato ITCH customers. Many people that are using ITCH either have an NS7 or will get an NS7 in the future [citation needed].
So I wouldn’t be surprised to see a nifty add-on that allows the VFX-1 to fit somewhere snugly on the NS7; the same way there are those add-ons that allow Korg Nano Pads, to fit snugly on the most other dj-sets.
If all my speculating and assuming is correct, then this would be a killer combo (and I am defenitly getting a NS7)
I dunno..Itch is catching up with the big boys like Traktor.Maybe its interface is simplified, but everything is ready to go and jam. With this fx idea, it will be better for me than the others. I love the waveforms in Itch and the control, timing , etc..feels just as good if not better than real vinyl..
Lack of FX was the only thing that stopped me buying the VCI300 last year. Instead i went for VCI100 and Traktor. And to be honest, even with this new FX controller I’m still happy I went with this route. Traktor is awesome and I love my VCI even more than I did now I’ve upgraded to SE version!
[…] Actually, Charles is very cool like that and he is a friend of Dj TechTools so yes, that was Charles from Vestax and the controller is real.[…]
Really now. That’s nice. So what’s the expectation date? 😉
Once I have a finger I’ll take the arm 🙂
What’s up Chuck, It’s James! Dude I’m lovin the VCI-300 man! Haven’t had a problem since I brought it home. Your confirmation on the VFX-1 is awesome news. It’s going to be an interesting 2010 NAMM for Vestax.
So I assume this will need a free USB port to use or somehow it connects to the VCI-300 using the input/thru connection? In my current set up, I use both USB ports on my Macbook. One for the VCI-300 and one for my external hard drive. I guess I have to invest in a portable firewire hard drive.
Why not put your music on the internal hard disk? Works perfectly on my PC, I don’t see why it wouldn’t on a Mac.
I have to agree with Ean. Charles ran into me at the Vestax Controller Battle over here in Germany and he and all the other guys where very kind and friendly. Also the Seratoguys at the hotel that night were totally down to earth. You all know I’m waiting since December to finally hold this tool in my hands. But maybe 6 sampleslots should be added 😉 So I wouldn’t have to run another software plus Korg nanoPAD in the background.

good news to be sure!

This is great..I always liked Itch but felt it needed this and this only makes it complete. I really like what they have planned. Now 2 knobs for paremters would be nice and hope the fx choices have are illuminated, so one can see them in the dark.. This looks serious!!

I agree. The only issue is that USB ports are in short supply. Maybe its time that vestax and co start adding low latency USB hubs to their “core” components, so that we can more easily add such peripheral equipment.

Well…the next release of traktor pro IS going to have 4, that’s right, 4 fx units over 2 in duo. That and the ability to twitter my playlist still keeps traktor close to my heart.

Hehe – “audio store from czech republic” – oh yeah, we Czech are all bunch of pirates, huzzaah! Arrrrr.
hope this is not a bullshit and they better do something for those people like me who has new macbook pro where one usb port always freezing no metter what
lets hope this goes “thrue” input and does not require additional usb ports
other than that lets also hope it is not more than 200$
coz i already put 800 for the vci …
cant wait for more details
perhaps the fx will be hardware based on a chip on the unit to free on cpu processing & not on the software itself ??
what is the NS7 midi?? I know it is high quality… is it the same as the Vestax gear?
maybe it will be 14 bit midi for more precise control
Hmmmmm…. interesting. So if it is just a midi controller then ITCH must have the effects in-built. Thus, should be able to use any midi controller like the KORG. Unless ITCH can detect what you have plugged in and only allows you to use specific, cause I know the whole pint of ITCH was to not have customised mapping. Made to plug in and just work with Vestax VCI-300 and the NS7.
Im getting my NS7 tomorrow (bloody arrives in Melbourne Australia late!), but do enjoy having effects. Hope future releases of ITCH have the capibility. Possibly might work with NS7 and the Vestax VFX-1.
I would assume it will all be midi message controlled, so any standard controller like a Korg Nano Kontrol, etc, could control the fx too in Itch for those who do not want to shell out more cash on a controller.
I actually like this modular system more than a all in one cramped controller.. This will be a tight system soon..and if Ableton links to it, it will be even more sick.
they should release a controller like this for tpro effects!

This is no joke, but I think the final will have more control knobs.
I like the ‘user modes” , but wonder how this will work?

Dude… They said Itch did not have FX from the getgo. People want FX and they decide to make a controller. They actualy listen to what you guys want…and then you say they should have done it from the start and now you have to spend more money boo hoo. That’s capitalism dude… Vestax needs to live too.
I just want them to add FX to SL rather than itch. We have been asking way before itch was even created. I love my SL3 and have opportunity to have the extra channel lets use it!
serato doenst say anything cause their software is not ready for the vfx-1 thats the reason…cause if they confirm the vfx-1 they also put pressure on themself to finish the next version..i think that all the hype around the effects is a kind of marketing bullshit..
who tell us that serato and vestax team up to get more money out of their customers..

i hope u understand what i like to say.
if u understand what they write on the russian page from the top of this thread..
it says that the vfx-1 is on of 6 important produc for vestax this year..
so the vfx-1 is not a fake…it a leaked information or a kind of marketing thing to get our money.. we will talk about it in a few weeks when they start to sell it for 200 $ and get rich with this..
it really sucks that we all have to buy more gear.
i hope that the serato guys will do the effects accesable via midi to give us the freedom to choose any controller.
to the question how much i would pay for i only can say not more than 80 $ cause its only a midi controller, but the vestax brand makes it i think twice the price..

Hey,
If you need a good firewire external hard-drive, I highly recommend the Iomega Drives (http://go.iomega.com/en-us/products/external-hard-drive-portable/?partner=4760) These bad boys are very fairly priced, large incapacity, small in size, and durable (add have very low latency)

So? Serato is still ahead in this and even beats out Torq’s set-up which is a bitch to use if you want to quickly grab a loop sample. Sure VDJ and Deckadance can do it but their other features just aren’t there (stability for DD and FX/customization for VDJ)

Just what i wanted to hear!!!
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
Its really cool that Serato is finally getting FX; Traktors large selection of effects was the main reason I went with Native Instruments Software over Serato when I was initially looking into digital Djing.
But I also feel that I would need a price drop before I got really serious about picking a VCI-300. I am a small (college) club/bar, mobile Dj and having an all-in-one unit that fits in my backpack is perfect for me, but the VCI-300 was just too pricey (even b-stock).
If they could throw in VCI-300 and the effects module, all for about $600-$700, that wold be a great deal for me, and I would definitely switch.
But my question is: what is Native Instruments going to do to combat this new competition? They have corned the “effects” market, but now with this add-on, what new feature is Traktor going to release to “one-up” the competition?
I am excited to see what NI does…
About time, Itch has been in need for some fx’s!
MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED. PLEASE GOD LETS HOPE THIS IS REAL!!!
