Does anyone know how I can get hold of a citronic cd4 tray

I saw a dj dump his laptop on the ground using an Uberstand without the zip ties. If you don’t use the zip ties and velcro with a similar stand, consider that your goal.

Also, it was semi ironic, as the reason the laptop got flipped was that the dj was throwing hands up in a “yay” type of motion, which became non-yay, though the laptop ended up being fine for the rest of the show at least. Keep arm pumping away from laptops and other expensive equipment.

They overlooked the lock in the L-stand because they are trying to sell you on the Crane. You can tell because the dude goes on and on about ‘really really well done .. so well done.. its hand crafted .. ergonomic .. this thing is made out of baby seals and tiger wangs” etc. He’s such a bad salesperson. He did a sales video for the S4 bag and while looking over the *plastic* buckle that is on every tourists fanny pack and costs 10 cents, said something like “check out this super durable super safe fastener — it will really really hold your bag shut”.

Another thing that you will need as DJ equipment is a DJ laptop stand. There are many options in the stand itself. The designs are very innovative and the controls have to be very user friendly when you choose them as the laptop is mostly the heart of all DJ equipment. This equipment is to be chosen very carefully as they are available in a number of models. It is always better if you choose a light weight one as this will make it easy for you to carry it around. It is available in most of the leading stores which deals with computers and its related accessories.

With a little trial and error I copied the design of the crane stand using only my friends welding machine and some parts from mcmaster carr. The prototype cost me about 20 bucks but only because I made a mistake. I’m going to make 4 more at about 12 bucks a pop. and hey… I learned to weld too! neat. Mine came out to 3.5 lbs and feels very sturdy. I can deal with the extra .5 for $130 in savings!

agrre with sould on the L stand which is very disappointing.I ve been using it for the last six months and despite the attractive cost, it s a bit of rip off. The parts are heavy and not very solid and after several usages, the steal bars are not correctly fitting in.

i did my own search on stands and i found STANTON UBERSTAND very useful for me, it held my laptop well almost at eye level (depends where your placing on) and plus i like the position-adjustable shelf because it gave me a place for my audio card.
but the CRANE STAND looks awesome too

I’m not gonna lie.

I wanted a really sturdy table for my turntables and other equipment so I bought a solid oak door from a thrift shop, threw down some cinder blocks and now I have this immovable table haha.

It was only about 30 dollars in investment, it doesn’t look all that great but you can’t budge it and there’s no vibrations from the speakers – no skipping!

The all best laptopstand for home use still is nothing less than the tv stand that hangs on the wall, of ikea, you can just out ur laptop up there, if u have a wall in front of course, and dont lose any space, but its not something to take on a gig

Logitech has an x-shape stand better suited to home use probably but it has an in-built usb hub which i find particularly useful! $120 AUD!

How about this one from Numark, it cost $49.99 here in the US and looks pretty portable too, kind of similar to the griffin or the ifold.

I have personally set up a crane stand and they feel very tough and durable. That Stand for 20€, looks like it’s worth that and would break very easily. For all you Europeans the crane after conversion is worth probably around 100€.

You’re giving too many props to the Uberstand. You should have given a BIG ‘Con’ to the fact that a ZIP tie is needed to make that bad design stable. With a laptop resting on it, one knudge is the opposite direction (w/o a zip tie) and your $1500+ laptop, gig and entire digital music collection is on the floor. The Uberstand is an accident waiting to happen. Crane #1, L-Stand(M) #2 and Uberstand last.

and by the way, i have the lstand-m and this wasn’t a fair review simply because in the video when he puts that controller on top of it and shows it bending, he didn’t have it locked. if you push down on that top part it locks, if you pull it up, it’s not locked (you can tighten the screws on the sides, but that’s not locking it).

right before that he pulled up on it and i could tell it was definitely unlocked when he did that. had he pushed it back down on top after making his height adjustments, that controller would not have bent it like that.

The LStandM does have a tendency to fold down like that, however… there are these sort of “keyhole” type of slots on both pivot points, which if you slide the stand into them it works quite well. I haven’t used either other stand, but I find the LStandM to be quite sturdy, especially when clamped down (I actually clamp it and use the base, which results in it being very stable). I also like that I was able to buy the shelf from them to hold my soundcard. The foam pads are a nice touch as well as they protect my laptop from scratches and hold it nicely in place with friction.

The LStandM is the most versatile of the three I’d say, and given that it folds flat it’s really not as bad for travel as you might think. I’m happy with my choice.

The Odessy Stand is a rip off.. its just cheap sheet metal, here is the same exact thing for under $30. I have one, its ok, I don’t recomend it for a traveling stand, but its great for home/stationary use. It just doesn’t doesn’t breakdown flat, but i guess it could make a good mobile stand, I used to travel with it when i first started DJing with a computer. Consider that up to $150 can be saved to purchase lighting, business cards, software, music – or even a midi controller that will allow you to not even need your keyboard close to you/eliminate the need for a laptop stand (so the audience can see you).

I feel some DJs (including myself) buy equipment just to collect it all. I think it’s important though to consider your DJ career as a business and to spend/invest money wisely to get yourself to the next level.

I just have a recycled plexi stand. It’s light, sturdy & low. I can put my soundcard under it. Protects my lappy from idiot beer & costs $0.

In fact, the A8DJ fits on the shelf perfectly as well, the shape is a near exact match, though it ends up “sideways” so to speak (if you put one on the shelf, you’ll know what I mean).

I have 2 Uberstands and I like them a lot, keep my laptop and a Remote SL 25 up there with no problem, though I have wanted to get a custom piece of sheet metal cut to lay across the top of them, which I think will give the 2 stands more stability by “connecting” them together.

Great discussion and an excellent topic to review. I have not yet purchased a laptop stand, tested a couple that I did not like and kept on using a milk cart as well.
However, had a couple of close calls that have prompted me to reconsider.
I guess it depends on the DJ’s style, I have been to some shows where people don’t see to mind the DJ or beat selector standing directly in front of their laptop. I personally, keep mine to the far right side of me to maintain open face contact with the crowd. In some respects, it can almost be compared to when vinyl DJs turn their back to the crowd and start diggin’t the crates.

Not that I would want to haul them around, but I’m still very much attached to my homemade PVC pipe stands. I’ve got a small one for my laptop and another one that angles my Stealth Control at 45 degrees. VERY nice and user friendly if you ask me.

A milk crate also works well.

I have both the original Odyssey L-Stand, and the Stanton Uberstand. I originally used to use the Odyssey, but it takes forever to set up , doesn’t break down nicely (too many parts), and I hated having to “fine tune” it to make sure that it stands level while keeping my MacBook Pro level. Started using the Uberstand, and that’s all she wrote. It’s quick to setup, and takes up very little space when collapsed (protip: ditch the sleeve it comes with for a sleeve intended for a 12″ PowerBook). I use a reusable heavy-duty Velcro tie (used for securing cables) in lieu of the reusable zip-ties that it came packaged with, and it’s perfectly stable for me. The lack of height adjustable is fine, as it puts the laptop where I need it, but of course, YMMV.

had this one but decided to send it back. it’s height-adjustableand in general an okay stand but I couldn’t slide it under my controller or a turntable. It’s pretty heavy, too, and you’ll have to reassemble it every time you travel. but then again it’s only 20 bucks. decide for yourself
