Since January is upon us, that can only mean one thing: Winter NAMM and a fresh batch of DJ technology guaranteed to produce buyer’s remorse and gear envy. has anyone got a review on the american audio dj vsm4?
What do I have to do to get the gold Dicers?

I use torq 2.0 and have used serato and traktor scratch pro (1.5). Torq 2.0 is absolutely sick! at least give it a try if you are on a tight budget.

Apparantly you’re someone who does not know his facts, but likes to blabber on:
Ean did produce tracks. If you can’t even find these, you’d better off keeping your mouth shut. 😉
1) Hercules has already released a DJ Controller called DJ Console 4-Mx with touch sensitive jog wheels, so DJ 4Set touch sensitive jog wheels are not a first for Hercules.
2) The DJ 4Set unit shown on Namm is a mock up, your opinion “Wobbly and poor platter action” is based on non fully functional jog wheels.
3) DJ 4Set has no line inputs, its description is here. http://www.hercules.com/uk/DJ-Music/bdd/p/146/hercules-dj-4set/
4) You have mixed photos between DJ 4Set and DJ Console 4-Mx, both were demonstrated on Hercules booth on Namm Show, the difference between both is easy to make: DJ Console 4-Mx is 2 inches larger, in metal (DJ 4Set is in plastic), with more buttons and audio plugs. Your photo IMG_1442-230×153.jpg shows the rear of a DJ Console 4-Mx.
Wow! A hundred and something comments and nothing about Alesis upcoming StudioDock?
http://www.alesis.com/studiodock
Lots of interesting stuff, anyways. So lets wait and see what will make it into full scale production and what gets tweaked.
FINALLY a 4 deck serato module 🙂 Looking forward to the SL4…just hope you don’t need 2 laptops…

( oh course if you know , how to make chain of effects and racks etc)…. but as easy way , to do a good performance, it give a nice interesting touch, to any track….
Plug and play…. ….!! I like that!!
blah blah blah blah blah blah STUTTER EDIT!!!!! blah blah blah

http://www.reloopdj.com/product_info.php/language/en/info/p623_Reloop-Jockey-3.html
Been wating for this one. Ive been playing with the Jockey 2 for a while but this looks like better build quality, bigger jog wheels, and metal casing.
I’m waiting for Behringer’s new prices 😛
Has the Torq -v- DJTT skirmish abated?? As a Torq owner with a soft spot for it I cannot understand how a simple subjective comment can generate such defensiveness – what was written in the post was exactly my 1st impression upon seeing the layout. Some of us seem to be very precious at the moment
Anyway – I want more on the DB4 above anything else. I could run away and shack up in a dirty caravan in Wales with that little baby.
It had abated until you trolled it back up.
As for the Nox series with prices as well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-Vkm8m80iU
NOX606 is 399 Euro
>.< Must get me hands on eet but who knows I might end up with the DDM4000 since it's out now and has a TON of good reviews.
Looking for the Traktor Key Overlays, which are apparently available now, but when I google it the closest thing I get is this page.
WHATS THE DEEEEEEEAL
Here’s the link to the overlay website

**** Regarding the Torq 2 Comments: ***
_
We failed to recognize and state in the article that the UI was customizable and could potentially become more simple- that was our bad. Point taken. Its really hard to get every detail when you are looking at 50 products in one day and totally exhausted. Putting this post together took a lot of work from several people, so its somewhat frustrating when people focus on one minor mistake and miss the greater body of contribution. Then again, I understand if anyone felt their personal software was being attacked.
_
The Torq comments were not intended to be bashing at all. This was just a first impression. Please notice that I called the cross fader features “very creative and innovative” and there are lots of other products here that got mixed remarks. We tried to point out immediately apparent pros and cons. It was just a personal opinion that the GUI was busy and fairly un-attractive.
_
Why Torq 2 Late? Its just a question, not a judgement at all. In the last year lots of great 4 deck software hit the market and many users left TOrq for other camps, they have finally brought out an update that people were waiting for- is it 2 late?
Ean, this looks like an apology. There’s no need to apologise.
Avid must love you right now!! Expect a smug thank-you note in your inbox sometime soon.
Everyone in the community is talking about Torq 2.0. This also means that everyone will be looking at it. Without the publicity generated by this post I would never have considered it.
But having looked at it now, WOW!!! This is one hot open platform.
They have implemented technologies and features directly out of the box that you can only achieve by chaining third party plugins and complex configuration in Traktor and which Itch can’t deliver at all. I’d completely forgotten that Torq has rewire support. That’s the Bridge and Maschine integration right there in one.
Will definitely be giving it a demo and at EUR189 I could see myself working on a project to build exactly what I’ve always wanted on this platform.
We plan to take a serious look at the software ourselves and see what it can do. If the UI can be really stripped down and customized then, cool, there really might be something there.
nice one ean! will look forward to your Torq 2.0 review
Just checking ‘New Years Resolution’ article:
“To help maintain that important integrity, I will be turning over the reigns of senior editor (once we find one) to a un-biased editor focused only on great reviews and articles.”
“ONCE WE FIND ONE.” Can everyone just chill? What more can you ask from Ean?? He’s acknowledged the perceived issue, and is doing something about it.
And of course articles will be slightly biased anyway – it’s IMPOSSIBLE to be completely unbiased. I don’t care. If it does worry you, then use other forums to get other sides of the story. Problem solved. I don’t see the issue. At the very least this sight is making attempts to ensure things are as unbiased as possible.
Let’s all go play some tunes… with or without the crappy Torq 2.0. (Not that I’ve seen it – but Ean told me it looks crap). lol
Let’s all go play some tunes… with or without the crappy Torq 2.0. (Not that I’ve seen it – but Ean told me it looks crap). lol
Here here!!
Also, something I forgot to include above…
The very thing that I love about this site is the whole “don’t just stick with stock configs, let’s custom map the hell out of everything/build custom hardware to suit my DJ workflow” approach.
Now that Torq 2.0 finally lets us fully take the DIY approach – with everything from custom GUI skinning, MIDI mappings manager & SQLite database that can be integrated with 3rd party apps – it seems a bit harsh to knock the stock/default GUI – since customising of DJ software/setups is in my mind what DJ TechTools is all about.
Anyway, keep the awesome tips and tricks videos coming – I love them! 🙂
I just got home from NAMM and you may not want to count Torq 2.0 out yet. They had the Xponent and the ITCH midi together. The Xponent were decks 1 and 2 and the ITCH decks 3 and 4. Of course this was done by tweaking a XML file but seeing it amazed me. I was early adopter of Torq but I’m a Serato user. Torq may be the come back kid if they listen to their users and market it right.
I’m intrigued by your post. What do you mean when you say they had Xponent and Itch midi together?
Do you mean they were Midi synched and being controlled from one piece of hardware?
Or were they demonstrating simply that you can midi map Itch hardware to control Torq and to do this they used different layers of the same controller?
If you could elaborate it would be appreciated. I would be quite excited, as I’m sure would many other Itch users, if you had seen a version of Itch midi synched to Torq.
I found a video of the demo you referred to. I must admit, Torq 2.0 looks pretty impressive. Of course the transition to a new user interface when you are so familiar with a different one is always tricky. But if the feature set and technology merits that extra effort it can be worth it.
With Rewire, full midi implementation, and AVID technology under the hood Torq is looking like a completely open platform that you can use to build an end product exactly as you want it.
A bit of background info for anyone reading this on Torq 2.0:
– The preview was released as a public beta, it isn’t the final product, more of a sneak peak (says this on the trial page, but I think it should have been bolded or something maybe, since people are not spotting it)
– The default Torq 2.0 view is of 4 decks, with everything shown – I guess so people can discover the features. If you toggle the 4 deck button to go back to 2 deck mode, or use the “hide mixer” or “hide sampler” buttons (if you don’t need them shown), the interface is instantly a lot more straight forwards. Also, check out the “max browser” view and the “max waveform” view – which change things up a bit as well.
– If people don’t like the default interface, the GUI is now completely skinnable using QML – so not just colours and themes, but you can design whatever you want layout and buttons wise – as complex or as simple as you like. Some Torq preview users have already come up with skins/schemes even though the preview has only been out a couple of days (eg I made a layout with vertical waveforms):
http://www.torq-dj.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=18255
– Torq 2.0 now has a full keyboard/MIDI mappings manager that will allow us to do cool multi-mappings/advanced mappings, like I’ve seen for the VCI controllers on DJTT. Has taken long enough, but finally we can join in on the fun – and your excellent videos and mappings blog posts of the past will serve as good inspiration for what we can achieve – thanks!
Anyway, the sneak peek is promising, from what I’ve experienced of it – looking forward to final release. I only ask that perhaps DJTT could consider waiting until the final version is released before doing the review?
Ed
The Torq site is already discussing what you have said about Torq 2.0 on their forum (http://www.torq-dj.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=18265&p=128590&sid=f970d7daca98ed82f7db7b039a65d2a4#p128590). Here’s my post about you (defending you and also being honest):
Read the comments section of that DJTT post. Ean Golden (the creator of DJTT) is getting LOTS of heat for posting “Torq 2 Late” and comments like the GUI being complicated, without having given Torq a full test/review of his own.
Then again, that post was simply a quick snapshot of all the major goodies at NAMM. He says he’s going to be posting full reviews/videos on the hot items starting on Monday (they usually make posts only on the weekdays and I think NAMM is still going on so I’m sure they’re taking more footage/editing the articles/still writing the articles, etc.
I’ve been a follower/supporter of DJTT for a long time now and can definitely say that Ean’s track record has shown unbiased posts. He would give fair reviews showcasing the pros/cons of every controller. Soon enough, Ean’s gift of controllerism knowledge/talent/creativity took off and he started landing major gigs/reviews/consulting for big name companies (Vestax, and now Native Instruments). The blog is definitely more Traktor oriented and that’s completely fine. But I def think that it’s wrong for him to hate on Torq right away without giving it a shot.
Everyone slips at times and Ean slipped with that post. This is what happens when you’re always in the public’s eye though. Hopefully his next post this week on Torq 2.0 will be much more informed. I would respect him even more if he accepted his mistake and apologized in the post. Def lost a lil credibility in my books. Ok rant over!
Thank god you were their to defend djtt.
As long as the review was legit and not meant to make traktor look better then don’t be sorry. If what folks are saying is true and this blog now is used to convince people to buy the software that you endorse then people will figure it out.
Some of the stuff I’ve read have been pretty good. Then you can tell when it seems that their are other things on the agenda.
I think you guys did a solid job reviewing the software. When I look at the screenshot it makes me think of devine’s graincube. Not a judgment just my gut reaction.
Keep up the real reviews. Folks support those who tell it like it is.
Lol at you guys getting so defensive – this article is obviously not a review of the software, just a quick run down of products of interest at NAMM, with some of the cuff first impression pros and cons of each – any short statement of aesthetic merit is going to be subjective, so why you crying about it?
Yeah, as I said higher “this type of reporting/bashing only satisfies instant and superficial curiosity. More gossiping, first impressions tweets than anything else, that being said wasn’t meant as a full review either…can’t wait to see namm end so that the djtt team gets back to the office do some serious work ;-)”.
Maybe this entry wasn’t meant for me, the products listed aren’t appealing to me, and the logics behind establishing the pro’s and cons are … subjective, sure. I specifically love the downside of the Stutter plugin being the need of a host… I guess I expected a better report , got spoiled over the years, sure, not sure I m crying though.
Lol at you guys getting so defensive – this article is obviously not a review of the software, just a quick run down of products of interest at NAMM, with some of the cuff first impression pros and cons of each – any short statement of aesthetic merit is going to be subjective, so why you crying about it?
Yes but this blog has grown over the past few years and is read WORLD WIDE. Ean has done wonders with DJTT and many people would agree that Ean is extremely talented and blessed to have the ability to take an idea from his mind and put it into reality. That being said, since this blog is so popular, anything Ean says is taken very seriously. I think that Ean slipped with the Torq. It’s great that this site is very Traktor oriented, but without even giving this new Torq 2.0 a try, you CANNOT say “Torq 2 Late”. I saw you guys as a legit company/blog that makes good posts, checking them over to make sure they are fair/unbiased etc. Ean, I believe you jumped the gun, and that’s completely fine man. Everyone slips. The thing is, you are letting a narrow TRAKTOR-MIND take over and you need to come back to being more open-minded. I know this post might seem a little overboard, and that your post was simply a snapshot of NAMM. Hoping the next post about Torq is more informed. Come on Ean, you should know better! You’ve reached celebrity status man, everyone watches every single word you say on this site. Keep doing it big tho Ean!! Just being honest! I’m still a fan!!

Ean, it’s quite odd that out of all the titles for the products listed in this article, only the one for Torq 2.0 is blatantly negative.<-Would this be an example of how this post is not objective?
The interface for 2.0 is quite a bit busier than it was in previous versions of Torq. But, the Traktor UI could also be called "terrible". In my opinion, the fact that the waveforms in Traktor aren't viewable on top of each other nor side by side is a glaring omission.
"Common dude, that UI is really terrible. No one can possibly argue that. Seriously." C'mon(<-that's how you spell come on, not "common" btw) dude, I would like to argue that UI is not terrible. It comes down to being a matter of personal preference. The UI is customizable, and I'd much rather have a customizable one than one where you are stuck with what is on the screen no matter what.
And Mr. Floyd, check out the Torq forums if you're looking for the reason as to why you aren't able to download the preview version of Torq 2.0. The answer is there.
I can handle that this site is primarily Traktorcentric, what I can't condone is the blatant digs Mr. Golden directed at Torq within this post.
Here a video, http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=1633 doesn’t look that bad, busy, sure, just like traktor and the others.
Can you judge a GUI so harshly ? Probably yes, but without really trying it, and Djtt knows what trying software means, without testing it, the credibility of this article is questionable
Why hasn’t reloop’s jockey 3 been checked out yet? It looks like a vast improvement on its predesser and it is still keeping its portability.
I agree. Currently have the DJ2 controller and this looks to fix a lot of its shortcomings (build-quality / button response / better jogs / transport contols / better FX sections / etc.)
Please try to get some info on this.
To be honest, I’m a big fan of DJTEchtools and Ean. Still represent the sticker that you gave me at our gig in Frankfurt two years ago on my MacBook and refer all my friends to the side whenever I can. But the Torq bashing really lets you shine in a bad light and looks like you didn’t look at it proper.
I allready made first changes to the GUI, hiding sampler and mixer, switching to 2 deck view (you can still use 4 decks to play, two decks A & D are just smaller then), have big BPM instead of these useless rotating circles (I rather lokk at the stickers on my vinyls). Features of Torq have allways been ahead of Traktor and Serato since day one, effects, 16 slot sampler, rewire, it was all there since the beginning.
What really is the best thing ever is the new Absolute Rotating Angle Modus, which is different to the old Absolute Mode (which is still there, like the Relative Mode of course).
Give it a try, really look deep into it, test it with VCI-300 and turntables, and stop the hate. Would really like to see what you Midigurus from DJTEchtools can get out of the new Midisection.
Btw, never liked the way Traktor looks, it doesn’t even have parallel waveforms and that’s what turntablists like about Scratch Live, Torq and other.
yup agree with Grzu… been a fan of djtechtools and ean golden too… however, hope the site won’t be too biased with traktor and also feature some other software most esp. Torq 2.0…
most features have been ahead of it’s time most esp. the 16-cell sampler, the Rewire and the capability to use VST plug-ins, (which I think now traktor S4 has just now) and also even the design of the S4 very much look like a revamped Xponent). just my 2 cents
looks like a good show anyone know if you can get them traktor keyboard covers for a sony vaio laptop?
I’m confused at how the downside to a vst plugin is that it needs a host?
For 299.00 I might try out that Behringer mixer!
What about the Reloop Jockey 3 ?
It looks like the vestax vci 100 mk2 vestax never made…
All metal, big jogwheels, nice and completer layout, vu-meters, looks pretty good to me.
Just my idea.
Reloop Jockey 3 looks soo nice.
3 grand and a dream. The DB4 is the messiah!!!
I think what is becoming readily apparent here is that the big loser at this year’s NAMM is Virtual DJ. I think both Native Instruments and Serato must have taken real offense at the inroads that VDJ made last year and decided to throw the smack down this year. VDJ is shut out on being bundled with any serious hardware I have seen so far this year (One exception being the new Gemini CTRL-47). It only makes sense for NI and Serato to take the money they were leaving on the table by not inking deals to get in on the entry level gear. I think that’s where you have to be (like it or not) because that’s the starting point of the headlining DJs of tomorrow. I think the Denon DN-MC6000 must have been like a splash of cold water that woke the Big 2 up. Now it will be interesting to see what the response from Virtual DJ will be. 2011 will be interesting indeed!
Memo to Native Instruments,
If you have any desire to cross markets and do well in America market, please do not forsake your hip hop users. Here’s what a lot of use would like to see:
– VJ’ing!
– A Bridge-like connection with one of your producing software.
You have been very good to us Hip Hop producers (Maschine is SICK!), and you have made a strong push by show casing dozens of Hip Hop producers in your YouTube Promotions.
Now is the time to do the same for Hip Hop DJs. Understand that Hip Hop is the 1st/2nd largest/best-selling genre in this country (depending whos counting). So please quite making me look bad and have everyone questioning why I am not using Serato (until I rock the crowd harder than they ever could).
From a Hip Hop DJ who is tired of defending you,
DJ PC3
NI. Better making that maschine work well with traktor S4… make it take virtual traktor output and or what ever to make it work with traktor grids in perfect sync. i tried to sync traktor with ableton and the tempo drift aint working.. ur virutal midi clock is not working.. lol.. i am with u DJ PC3
$249 for the Pad One seems a little steep, but I suppose if it saves you from having to buy a new Nanopad every three months it’ll all even out.
damn right! i had 3 before nanopads before i gave up…
So when are you coming by to check out the new analog drum machine? Stop by the DSI booth and I’ll give you guys a proper demo this time! It’s WAY better than what you saw before!!
the only thing that caught my eye were the traktor keys
Why? I’d hate not to be able to customise my own hot keys.
Kinda lame that they are just for mac’s though!!
torq 2.0 works great.. can’t wait for feb 8 ….. torq has been left on the side as a no contender to SERATO n TRAKTOR but don’t be afraid of trying it out… its a sick update to torq.. I was playing with it yesterday.. no sticker drift… in 1.5.2 i had bad sticker drift on the records… don’t know y.. but I did… back to topic connected my connectiv it was running great.. still have to get used to the way of mapping.. but it was working very smoothly.. serato 2.2 is working better than 2.1 which I had problems with and went down to 2.0.. traktor for me is working good.. but it crashed on me last time.. looked like and arcade game for a while lol.. waiting for the new update though…. its all on what u like.. and works best for ya.. but I’m loving the updates.. on all.. TORQ 2.0 feb 8
Surprised to see so many people interested in Torq 2.0 and even more so that people who owned it are trying to ralley around it after the looong wait so I am opened minded I will download and try it.
Download link on the email AVID send me is down! TORQ get your shit together!!!
For those of us who use traktor, it seems as though the “x-fader fx” could be achieved using pure data and some midi mapping. I do something similar that fades out the mid of the track I’m mixing out of and boosts those of the new one.
hopeing for some info on the updated traktor software
Keep in mind the Torq 2.0 GUI is fully customizable.
You can build your own GUI from scratch, or show/hide the elements to make it look either dead simple, wildly complex, or anything in between.
So, it looks as if the reviewer did not do his homework when it came to his Torq 2.0 coverage. Cheers!
I shouldn’t have customize a GUI from scratch, I don’t have time for that (I spend too much time, DJing, producing, and making money lol). When I buy something I want it to work right straight “outta the box.”
I don’t buy a car then install my own radio, speakers and then put the tires on… I just drive it out the lot and pick up my lady…
That’s not what he said. He said you could do that if you wanted to. I did exactly the same with traktor even though I didn’t have to. I set up my own set of layouts, carefully thought out exactly what I wanted my keyboard shortcuts to be and spent time mapping a controller to compliment my DVS set up. I didn’t need to do any of that but I did because it makes it work better for me.
I never said, he said that “I had to.” All I said was I don’t want to or shouldn’t have alter the GUI to fit my personal taste. The GUI should be pre-made (which is why I pay them to build the software) to be useful and atheistically pleasing “from the start.”
If the GUI sucks from the start, then I am not going to buy it, regardless of it “limitless customizable feature.” Enough. Said.
I would of like to seen some info on the Hercules DJ Console4-MX but this stuff looks Bad ASS
i think you guys really should include the Gemini CTRL-47 4deck controller, we’re already familiar with the VMS4, this seems like another rip-off by Gemini. i think it would be interesting to see how it stands up next to the vms4, and depending on price next to s4 as well.
also Numark DJ 2 GO controller looks interesting for those who simply want to mix, the no frills m-audio xsession pro type crowd. i think vms2 should also be mentioned next to the vms4… im assuming its the 2chan version of vms4, sounds interesting for those who dont need 4chan controller, and are on a tight budget.
Torq2late my ass. How about some decent coverage instead of randomly bashing products for no good reason. The GUI is busy but are you seriously that blind as to not see how busy Traktor is? FFS its on the same level of clutter. And can you guys really tell me something amazing Traktor can do that Torq cant? Damn., I own Torq, Traktor Scratch Pro, Scratch Live, Mixvibes Cross and VDJ… They all have their own charms.
NI seriously need to get Maschine working hand in hand with Traktor, With Torqs VST option it works great!
Common dude, that UI is really terrible. No one can possibly argue that. Seriously.
Tried to download the trail and typical of my past experiances with Torq the link is broken or down whatever TORQ just keeps letting me down.
Highlight the link. Copy and paste. Ta da!
LMAO!
Haven’t seen the torq interface, neither its configurabily, but torq appears to have a parallel track view, something ni misses.
Here a video, http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=1633 doesn’t look that bad, cluttered, as all dj softwares…
besides, maybe the interface seen by djtt wasnt the default, dunno just guessing, not giving a toss about torq here, but this type of reporting/bashing only satisfies instant and superficial curiosity. More gossiping, first impressions tweets than anything else, that being said wasn’t meant as a full review either…can’t wait to see namm end so that the djtt team gets back to the office do some serious work 😉
NNNNNnaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmm
When is traktor 2 coming out and how much for upgrade from current owners
if you had a delorean fitted with a flux capacitor and pinned it to 88mph after setting the date back to 1985, you’d only have to wait 17 years for Traktor 2 to come out 😉
Whoa 15 pounds for the NS6? That’s a major downside! I thought the benefit of controllers was that they were lighter/simpler than lugging around a lot more (heavier) gear. That seems like going the wrong way IMHO.
Any word on how good the focus rite is? Will it be able to be used by professionals on a plane (obviously it wont replace monitors), or is it not that good, just a bedroom or very minimal thing?
So far Torq 2.0 is pretty sweet. I don’t expect Serato or Traktor users to jump on, but it’s a marked improvement and upgrade that was very much needed.
I figure rather than shell out $1000 for a new controller and software, I’ll stay with Torq and see what comes of it (only a $50 upgrade). Although I’ll probably end up selling the Xponent down the road to get a 4-channel setup. Gonna wait and see what AVID is cooking up for new MIDI controls.
I’ve heard the comments on how the interface is busy, but if I recall, Traktor and even the newest Serato have busy layouts as well. As long as I can customize the layout (via preferences or making a skin) then it’s fine. I’d rather have it be a tool I can craft into my own.
Regardless, I’m glad AVID is taking Torq into a better direction. I don’t know if it will ever overtake Serato or Traktor, but I can see it competing well with players like VDJ, Mixx, and Deckadance.
It is now apparent that there is an obvious grudge & animosity toward Torq. Headlines like “Torq 2 late” and sarcastic statements like “maze intended to confuse the user or possibly as a educational example of how not to layout a DJ interface” are not the usual words found in unbiased reporting.
But whatever…I agree that it’s time for Avid (since M-Audio is no longer calling the shots) to put up or shut up. I think the slighted remarks should be contained until this new version has had time to settle.
I was an early adopter of Torq and have struggled along the way with the imperfections, both understandable and unfathomable, some of which came from my own ineptness. All of the DDJ programs started somewhere…and none were ever ‘perfect’ for everyone. But you have to admit that a program that has gotten an entire facelift by the folks behind several ProTools utilities, is something worth remaining optimistic about. I’m not trying to convince anyone to change their opinion based on their past experience with Torq, but only to hold it until 2.0 has ‘shown and proven’ (or failed).
And the last I checked, Traktor wasn’t exactly easy on the eyes either 😉 Bless up!!
all that new years resolution bullshit about this site being more objective seems to have dissapeared. 2 weeks in. Well done.
This is apparently the alternate reality zone of this comments section where everything is backwards.
Dicer with arcade buttons? – 4″ tall dicer. Right that would really work. Took more money? Riiiiiight- we would have made more money if it was produced in-house but chose NOT to, because then the product would have been double the price. Novation made it because they could make a $99 product that would reach everyone. I gave it to them for the market, not for me. Dirty Jesus rant over.
Meh,
Please tell me exactly how this post is not objective. pretty please with a cherry on top. Cause I dont get it at all.
I’m right there with you Ean,
These guys definitely have no clue what they are talking about, objectivity includes stating both the PROs and CONs of something. Where as being BIASED means stating one but not the other.
Check each subject “meh” & “next step,” they all have a Pro (AKA “Key Feature”) in blue and a Con (aka “Downside) in red.
At no point in this entire article do they say buy one piece of gear over the other.
As for the dicer, as an alumni in engineering from one of the top engineering programs in the country (U of I – Champaign), the mass production of the unit is what helps keep the price down. I highly doubt DJ TT has the necessary industrial manufacturing or fabricating equipment to build those DICERS in high quality (or the connections to people who do). In addition, I doubt they have their own business connections with major retail stores (like GC, etc) to distribute them.
But to be honest, I don’t know why I am wasting my time writting all this, to someone who doesn’t care, won’t come back and check their comments and just came here to spit some “flame” hated dialogue and leave.
Ean have guys thought to install a plug-in or code that would email people replies to their comments like they do in the forums?
I love my dicers they are the SHIT!!!! Thanks the $100 price tag was awesome too if my break in a year or two I would shell out another $100 to replace them right away they brough midi to my 1200’s what could be better?
I know right? I have been playing with torq 2.0 for 2 days now and I’m already becoming quite comfortable with it. I don’t know what a 4 deck mix is supposed to look like exactly. Not a little cramped?
I think torq 2.0 has been an excellent program thus far. I don’t know why people are so down on it on these forums.
When I price the DB4 on google I’m seeing a $1999 street price — is that possible?
Are you sure that’s $$$’s and not £1999 (as in UK pounds)
about vms4 – it’s not the same hardware as on the first version of their unit…
When I price the DB4 on google I’m seeing a $1999 street price — is that possible?
Isn’t that in pounds or euros bro’?
Nope it appears to be in USD!
No mention of the pioneer midi controllers here?!?!?!
No mention of the pioneer midi controllers here?!?!?!
they have their own article.
that’ll do.
It would’ve been nice if they had there own photos of the gear, say how it feels, plays, etc. I hope that will come Monday.
They’ve been added to this list- missed the final publish last night by accident. Potentially videos coming soon.
@BJ : I have an A&H Xone:DX. Quite frankly it’s the most rugged piece of audio equipment I have ever owned and it’s size is well within carry on luggage requirements for air travel. I have a custom flight case that fits the DX, an APC40, and my MacBook Pro. Really looking forward to the bridge for Itch and quite honestly I don’t think I will be needing another piece of kit for a very very long time. The N6 is doesn’t look very transportable and personally I don’t find the aesthetics or ergnomics appealing. It looks (and Numark always feels) like a piece of consumer electronics. The DX feels like a piece of industrial hardware. Mine fell 5m off a stage onto concrete. Admittedly the face plate took a dent on the corner and I had to open it up to separate two resistors on the audio output board that were touching each other after the impact of the fall but once put back together the unit rocks like new. I also find I have no issues with credibility rocking up to venues with the DX. Promoters and sound engineers don’t see this unit as being in the same category as other controllers. It looks like you rocked up with an A&H 4D and they have no qualms hooking you into the PA so the stories I have heard about negativity towards controllerism in the industry are something I cannot confirm. I’m pretty sure this is because I’m using an A&H product that looks like a military weapons control system rather than a flashy plastic monstrosity that looks like it might have been on special at Toys ‘R’ Us.
GOOD BY TORQ!!! Thanks to M-Audio for getting people into DVS at lowest price with its first Connectiv pack for $299 early in the DVS game but M-Audio Torq 2 looks like the end of the road IMHO!!
I disagree Floyd. Not only has Torq opened up their formerly proprietary software to run on other controllers (including the jogwheels!), but they’re including 4 deck control in the 2.0 version for only $50 (upgrade price for users of Conectiv-like me!). The entire reason I went with Torq 3 years ago was for the price, now it appears my patience will be rewarded with 4 decks and the ability to map those 4 decks to MY controller of choice. Now, to find my new 4 deck controller……….
I am right there with you. I was actually planning to leave torq this month if they didn’t step their game up but I am quite pleased thus far with what I have seen. I am also shopping around for a quality 4 channel mixer. Ns6 or Pioneer for me!
Question….
What would be better, a Numark N6 or the A & H Xone DX? Those are the 2 that have sparked my interest.
Anyone else notice that Numark have BLATANTLY ripped the design of those “redwave” cans? I have a pair of Reloop RHP-10’s & they are EXACTLY the same. They ain’t gonna raise their rep as a sub-par company with moves like that 🙂
You wanna see a rip-off, check the new Gemini CDj-700. This is what I call a rip-off!
http://www.skratchworx.com/news3/comments.php?id=1628
I just sold my VMS4 which I bought just to put it next to my VCI-100SE.
It comes not even close to the VCI.. 🙂
what a bad device, bad soundcard, delivery with 2 decks virtual DJ (LOL), no official traktor mappings. Cue buttons on the wrong place.
It had 1 nice feature: it was also a mixer voor analog devices.
you’re the second person i’ve heard say they have already gotten rid of their VSM4. that’s not surprising at all.
1) No Traktor Pro news?! Please, can I “haz” samples?! kkthxbye
2) M-Audio Torq 2.. LOL, your UI just made my day!!
3) I wish Ableton Live 9 does not come out in the next couple years or so, because we need more stability and not new features (bugs?!)!!
thanks DJTT for keeping us updated about NAMM’11
That new version of Torq does look a little busy, but from what I read they changed the code so that you can completely customize the interface with skins.
Surely someone will come out with some cooler, better looking versions of the GUI.
so do you get a grand tour of the serato factory if you get a gold controller??!! or are they just cuz its cool.
it looks like the Zelda cartridges for NES. nostalgia!
+1
Howd u get a picture in you avatar?
Aaah man…that new xone mixer, what a monster, and what a price, have to sell a coupe of ribs for that…..
that dj tech 2chan usb mixer looks interesting, now if only they took it a step further an added a dozen or more buttons to it. for those of us who have zero use for jogwheels, that would’ve been a perfect, compact solution… add buttons for transport controls + mixer… as it is, i dont see much use for it… yeah having a mixer is nice, but youd still need something for transport control, and the choice of single deck controllers leaves much to be desired 🙁 good idea, horrible implementation dj tech
Didn’t find anything to exciting for me. Here’s what I would have wanted:
1) Traktor Video Plug-in (PLEASE NI, PLEASEEEEE!!!!)
2) All in one “controller” with moving platters (like the NS7)
3) “Bridge”-like connection with other Producer software (kore, maschine, etc)
Honestly, if Itch gets video and the bridge, I will have to make the switch (AND I DON”T WANNA!!!), So please NI quit being stubbon AND GIVE ME VJ’ing!!!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Sidenote: has anyone notice the site acting funny, not working, can’t connect, database errors, etc)
For example, this post open on the whole first page and doesn’t have a “Continue Reading” Link…
DJ TT you guys, good or do you need some help?
It’s been a rocky week- we got slammed with traffic about the S1 and T1 early this week- exciting to have so much traffic, but our old server couldn’t quite handle it.
We just switched over to a new server- let us know if you’re still getting any errors (service@djtechtools.com) and I’ll make sure we address it ASAP. Thanks for hanging in there while things have been rough! 🙂
You read my mind!
Do you know about Ableton Live 9,0?????
Sadly, Ableton didn’t have a booth at NAMM. I’ve heard of awesome rumors about it though.
Interesting to see the iPad get a hardware component and step away from the touchscreen (albeit not entirely). The Traktor Pro Keys look pretty cool, although, one downside — it seems — is that you’re forced to use their prescribed layout.
Seems like this will be the case as we near the introduction of iOS Core MIDI…
exciting times!
