Stuff We Like – Great Traktor Tutorials Around the Web

Here at DJ TechTools we have a deep treasure trove of Traktor articles but with only 24 hours in the day, it’s impossible to cover everything. Fortunately, many sites, blogs, and independent DJs have followed our lead and have begun producing quality tutorials that cover great topics. This article shows a few that we particularly like. The piece above, was produced by one of our readers (Priscilla); continue reading for several more on topics like: syncing Traktor to Ableton, hooking up touch OSC in Traktor, and VST’s in Traktor.

Interesting, didn’t think of doing that with Ableton before. I’ve been doing something similar with LiveProfessor Free, patching things in virtually using Jack Audio and ASIO4ALL (all free stuff too, running on Windows). Haven’t yet gotten down live effecting though, i’ve just been sticking an exciter on and leaving it up there, but LiveProfessor does support midi clock syncing and controllers, just havent discovered that yet.

    Hello everyone,
I just found a great PDF tutorial on BeatGridding.  Ean’s tutorial is useful but if you’re a novice it moves pretty quickly through things you may not fully understand.  This PDF guide is easy to follow, provides links for example tracks and is super in-depth.  I found it very useful so I thought I’d share it here.  Word, Tumbleweed

I found this interesting. I was reading a blog post by someone I interviewed for my business blog back in September, Angelique. Her post is titled Angelique Suspended from Google Plus.

  • Rob Ticho

I’ve been messing around with doing the same thing. I find that using the Mullholand Drive in combination with filtering up and Delay freeze works well. No crazy mapping needed.

will it ever be possible to sync maschine and traktor using audio2, possibly after update?

I have been trying to Sync Traktor with Maschine and Ableton for a several months now. At this point, I have one advise, please try ’em for hours before you take this to the club because the tempo drifts after a while and you have keep on clicking the play sync button on traktor to send the midi clock through traktor virtual output.. unless i am doing it wrong. but the way its laid out on video, the tempo drifts, tried many times, still trying to incorporate it.. but has failed.. i would like to hear other peoples responses on this one

I think you didn’t get the electronic music concept well if youy actually go to clubs to “watch” the DJ. Look around you, you must be the only one.

Ive remapped the effects seen in the first video the the gain encoders on my s4, ive also inverted the effect caused by the gain so it wouldn’t change my autogain’s gain when i turn a knobs, there is also another secret effect i’ve added on the 2 other knobs 😛 have a try heres the .Tsi : http://www.mediafire.com/?b58k028h3i7v927

Great repost! I think the content is about right. Maybe seeing some video of a team live PA or live sync dj performance… but really I think the balance is about right. Hmmm… I think some of the most entertaining is the Whats in your DJ bag feature… JFK having a thousand dollars there was kind of funny… Maybe Ean can record one of his live shows to see him perform since living in the other side of the planet makes it kinda difficult to see him live or any of the other events… More Traktor S4 tutorials and maybe a bit more about production? Also a P&J sandwich and diet coke while you are at it please lol. Nah really I think its about right but we can wish.

Im glad you just posted their content instead of letting a lacky “Carlos Mencia” it again.

Use jack at the minute. Is Soundflower more stable or do they both do the same job just as well?

      Hi Sam,

I think Ean posted this because he thought it was a good transition technique, which can be done, in traktor pro, and traktor 2. It’s not so much about the version of Traktor, but more about an overall mixing technique

ye but how do you midi sync traktor and ableton on a PC?

      • DJ Girish

Thanks man. Does that mean, you agree to the tempo drift on the same machine? Maybe you know this Rob, does syncing traktor with maschine through physical midi cable (just like the NI youtube video) work?

        • Rob Ticho

          Girish,

It’s been awhile since I did this. I ended up setting this up only as a proof on concept for this article.

I remember there was some tempo drift with a physical midi cable and I had to push something in ableton to update the tempo every 5 minutes or so.

I’m not sure there is a way around that, but I remember it not getting in the way all that much.

I’ve already watched all these, but it is nice to see the reposting. On another note, I got to say that I’m starting to miss the tech in techtools. There have been a lot less articles on overly techy projects and concepts, instead there has been a ton on the art of DJing itself.

      Priscilla,

So, I understand that the artillery FX is synced to Ableton global tempo by default and if you like to sync it to the Traktor’s tempo, you will probably have to manually enter the tempo in Ableton. am I understanding it correctly?

      • Priscilla

        Girish,

In essence yes. But you can midi sync via the clock ableton and traktor, this way you don’t have to switch back and forth. In the method I used for the video I didn’t sync it, mainly because I was using artillery as more of a texture effect and not one that has to be spot on. I would use the other video posted up above (dubspot’s sync method) to get them properly synced up.

or a separate win laptop. I tried it once via lan-cable but after a view minutes they ran out of time…

    • Edparis

it works well when you have a soundcart with midi in/out. so the 2 laptops can be easily synced via midi master clock

      • toke petterson

i heard of the “midi- possibility”, but what if you got no midi in/out ?

I never use the “loop control” bank for the four effects knobs. so when the four knobs are set to Loop Control, knobs A and B and Buttons A and B control this effect for deck A and B. the remaining two buttons and knobs (C and D) are spare

I kinda did the same thing except no buttons and i used the gain knobs since i don’t use them… I basically followed priscilla’s video and used the two gain knobs for bank 1 and bank 2… Thought you guys might be interested in another way to try it.

Oh and as far as the echo/freeze trick I just let the button/platter combo from the latest DJTT mapping handle that one…
