A Digital DJs Wish List to Santa: Better Software

Dear Native Instruments (and Serato Audio Research, Atomix Productions, M-Audio, Ableton AG, etc): It’s the holiday season again, and this year, we wanted to write you a letter to ask for something special – software updates!  We’ve been very good this year: practicing regularly, trying out near gear, playing gigs, buying controllers, making mappings, recording mix tapes, so we feel like it’s time for some solid presents.

Our Top Wishlist For Traktor Pro 2

Cue Point Names and Colors – Earlier this year, Serato started allowing users to name and label their cue points. Our Serato using friends love this – imagine being able to add specific markup to your tracks with personal notes like “baseline starts here”, “mix out by this point”, or “epic drop!” – and even color coding them (you could make them match your arcade button colors!).

Resizing this window would be a Christmas Miracle!

Fix Mapping in Traktor – We’ve got complete respect for how intelligent Traktor’s mapping system is already- especially compared to Serato and Ableton. That being said, it remains one of the most frustrating experiences in Traktor. Specifically, we’d like to be able to resize the controller editor window, use additional numbers of modifiers and conditions, and use more conditional statements (?, ?, and ? are some interesting additions…)

Better iTunes Integration – This one might take some working with Apple to get it right, but we want to edit iTunes playlists and ID3 tags in Traktor, as well as a true iTunes playlist import/sync feature. We’ve been asking for this for a while, because so many of us use iTunes to organize our stuff and not Traktor’s collection setup. See this full thread  on the Traktor forums for some intelligent discussion on the matter.

Fix History – Last week at the DJ TechTools holiday party, I played a great set of Tech and Electro House. Today, I went to go and look at what tracks I played, when I mixed in and out, what BPM I was at – but couldn’t. Traktor’s history feature has been broken for some time now, with only the less-helpful track “Archive” folder in the Traktor Explorer.

Traktor Bridge / ReWire support – Serato’s Bridge is pretty cool and works relatively flawlessly. We want the ability to run Traktor through other programs without having to hope that we can get a very complicated system of internal routing working correctly.

Look, it’s Santa’s sleigh! I mean, parallel waveforms!

Alternate Layouts and Views – No one is a big fan of user-skinning, but we think that being able to change around how the layout of the track decks would be a no-brainer for Traktor. Imagine a Traktor with parallel waveforms!

Key Detection and Relative Adjustment – Mixing in key is awesome, and can make for incredible final results when done right. Traktor should take a leaf from Virtual DJ’s book and add key detection to song analysis. One of the best parts about this is that Virtual DJ then dynamically updates the key field (which can be displayed in standard keys or Camelot keys) when you turn the key change knob.

Author’s Note: A few weeks ago we asked our Forums, our Facebook Fans, and our Twitter followers what they thought would be the best additions to DJ software – thanks for your input to making this article possible! Who would you write your wish list letter to, and what would you wish for? Let us know in the comments below – and have a great holiday!

ABLETON, SERATO, TORQ, VDJ…

We felt qualified making a Traktor-focused wish list, but what about the other major DJ software? It’s time for your voice to be heard!

Add a comment to this article with your feature requests listed like this:

  • Ableton – DJ-Style Pitch bends for each loop (additional details on the feature welcome, but only one feature per comment, please.)

Next, vote on the features you want the most by using the comment like button!

The highly popular features will rise to the top and we will publish them in this article. DJ companies actually do pay attention to these types of chances for our audience to provide feedback, so tell them what you really want for Christmas!

Showing trax in Traktor with enabling 5 minute long, 7 minute long & 9 minute long bar instead of whole track per whole showing bar…..

Simple enable 7minute “showing” BAR of track to see every track (5:30 or 7:00) in bar with 7minutes => you can compare one track with others in track lenght a see when drop will be or how long break is……

Sry for english… not from Espeaking country 😛

you guys hit the nail on the head – the only thing i would correct or add to is to make the in-line tagging and editing natively more functional NOT requiring itunes at all for extending functionality, but rather building the native system around it being more fuctional, maybe just being able to simply import standard playlist formats allowing a wide range of options!!

I’ve said it before but i’ll say it again i think Media Monkey does a great job of this, even its folder structure being able to internally edit folder structure is so convenient i simply can’t live without it!

**** especially since itunes keeps making its interface and functionality more and more simpler – it is not really allowing for a lot of high end usage. Its like trying to paint a masterpiece with an etch-a-sketch…its possible, but … good luck!

  • Nick Pullman

Ability to use timecodes with Serato DJ! And integration with Abelton!!!

  • Michav717

    Slip mode for scratching!!!!!

  • acidjazz

Make Turntable FX always buffered and ready to go! The workflow of having to first arm it and then wait a bit too long before using it kinda sinks my battleship. Maybe separate knobs for vinyl start and stop speed a la Pioneer CDJs as well! Some savvy controller assignments might manage the same effect but I’d rather the effect itself get a total makeover. Mainly for working sans timecode.

  • Joe Carroll

    All for Traktor:
    VSTi support, like Deckadance.
Being able to undock elements and move them to another display – such as the library
Relooper/beat slicer grid feature like Deckadance / VDJ
It would need hardware support, but a “tri-fader” like the old Redsound mixers (one crossfader each for bass/mid/high)

  • Dj richi ac

An app for the smsrtphones (iphone) to edit cue points and other stuff like tags while plp is sitting on the bus on the way home

  • Duncan MacLennan

    – ableton style warping instead of beatgrids
    – edit iTunes tags/playlist in Traktor
    – Post Filter & Fader FX (like ‘echo’ on DJM800)
    – Non-destructive editing within Traktor. (e.g. hi-lite 8 bars that will automatically be skipped)
    – Midi Learn (like in ableton)

..and finally- Beat Decks (A simplified Maschine player, playable from Maschine controller or F1)Call me NI

  • James Lillicot

Warping beatgrids like in ableton live. I’m only a nube but classic disco tracks suck to mix.

    • James Lillicot

ok, diff programs for diff functions, but its the only really basic thing I need at the moment that Traktor doesn’t provide.

  • Lazerbaiter

    mastering eq
    parallel waves

  • Gus Okeeffe97

Having beat grids for different time signatures would be good. I’ve wanted to be able to mix in songs with 3/4 timing (A Team – Koan Sound Remix for example), and getting the bPM would help me a lot…

  • Chris Galea

    Traktor

Midi mapping button like Ableton when you press a button or wiggle a knob, it maps it to the parameter that is currently selected.

  • Andreas Bührer

To Apple… it would be very nice to see the key field of the ID3-Tag !!!!!!!

  • Nomak

A lot of great wishes here :). I’d also like it if Traktor had alternate layouts and views. A friend of mine is mixing on a DJ software called FutureDecks DJ pro (this was the first time I saw it) and what I immediately like about it was the fact that it not only had full and zoomed waveforms of each track, but also had vertical/parallel waveforms.

At first I didn’t think much of this but these waveforms really help you to visually align all the tracks, thus making it easier to cue, pitch bend and generally have a better sense of instantly seeing if something is out of its place. So, I really hope Traktor implements this, seeing that much smaller and relatively unknown DJ software have thought about these things.

  • D-Jam

Torq – New midi controllers, an Xponent 2.0, something.

    Torq – High-resolution waveforms

  • Bastian Hertel

since i noticed the great slicer function in itch/twitch i wish traktor can do that…

  • Takeo

Nolan, Serato ITCH allows you to do this. You can create different beat grid markers so that if I track changes tempo the beatgrid can change with it.

  • Euphoricf

When will the “Your Highest Voted Ideas So Far” be updated?

  • DJ Freshfluke

Cue Point Names and Colors –
you can already name your cue points ever since in traktor… (i do excessively use this), so this section is misleading, as it should read: _additional_ cue point naming features (like the names show in the waveform plus the color thing)
Fix History –  history and archive are 2 different things… the history is the _current history_ for THIS particular session you’re just playing. as soon as you close traktor, this list goes directly into the archive folder. so i do not understand this section at all?! please elaborate…

  • Cool Tigers

Something really simple that doesn’t exist in Live : inserting comments tracks ! Very useful to take notes and to come back to your work days later…

  • David De Garie-Lamanque

for ableton : – the ability to detect tempo changes in one song and change the master tempo when the song gets to that part.
    – Better tempo automation! for instance if you’re playing a song and you want it to gradually speed up or down and getting the actual precise BPM values (instead of 120.04 or 119.7 when tying to get at 120 bpm)
    – another neat thing would be to allow more on the fly looping, rather than having to rely on scripts like ClyphX which don’t always work that well and are quite complicated to understand and properly set up.
    – the ability to determine a minimum and maximum value for a clip’s transpose parameter when MIDI-mapping it (let’s say i have that control mapped to a knob and want to change a song’s key on the fly, right now i have to be very careful becayse if i nudge the knob too far i can up to 4 octaves from the original pitch)
    – a method of using basic groove functions on the fly, for a temporary duration. let’s say i am playing a song with a 3/4 or 6/8 feel and i want to mix in another track with a straight 4/4 feel. It would be awesome to temporarily and gradually change the groove in the song i am bringing in until i mix the other song out and then bring back it’s own groove.
    – making adjustments to the warp engine, because it still seems to have trouble dealing with beatless passes, even if they are really short. The warp engine seems unable to retain tightness in ambient/drumless parts of song and very often introduces a tempo drift, but everything goes back to normal when the drums kick in again, and even with a lot of warp marker editing, the software cannot seem to make those passes tight.
    – upward pitch decay and reverse repeats in the beat repeat plug-in. A native Tapestop or Turntable power down/up effect.
    – a greater variety of filter types on the auto filter plug-in and in the synths (like formant and morphing filters available in all the synths and in th filter device).

    Happy new year everyone!

  • Tristan McCool

I’d like to be able to use learn for midi out mapping, if there’s a button you want to light, why can’t you just press it?

Also really like the idea of more modifier conditions and a resizable mapping window.Definately like the idea of Traktor being able to analyze key rather than having to use 3rd party software in advance all the time.

  • Matt Allen

Better Itunes intergration. Meaning I could update my itunes playlists in traktor. I would pay £100 for this update as it means I would continue to mould and shape my playlists live on the night rather than waiting until I get a chance when itunes is open and ultimately forgetting.

    • Matt Allen

Oh and History.. surely this should a simple one??

  • Marco Garcia

I wish VDJ would work on jog wheel latency, some controllers like the numark V7 are fine but for the most part you will notice some jog wheel latency with most midi controllers. Serato intro is kicking VDJ ass in this department. I would also like for VDJ to optimize itself during installation to each users computer, save the user the trouble of having to go read through VDJ forums to find their performance solutions. Thanks VDJ Team!

  • Steven Walker

please add vst plugin support and the ability to export track information and bpm via either midi or hid

Traktor’s output for LEDs needs to be handled a bit better. If you’re outputting actual ranged values eg for volume levels, it just outputs way too much data and floods the device you’re outputting to causing the LED output to lag and act wierd.  I tried this on my Denon DN-MC6000, and if you rely only on Traktor to handle to output, things get pretty hairy when you try to output more than one deck. I actually had to write a bridging app that takes midi signals from one midi channel, filter what is not needed and then output to the device for proper LED output. It might be that the DN-MC6000 just cannot handle that much data, but on the other hand, if you plug in Traktor to a midi watcher like MIDI-OX, you can understand visually that it just sends out too much duplicate data making it very inefficient.

Forgive me for being technical, but every time the volume changes, you will have to update every single volume level LED to be on or off, so thats about 10 messages per cycle per deck, this can quickly become 40 or more midi output messages for your device to handle per cycle which is quite overkill. If Traktor could have a tracking process for outputs, then it would only need to send out a few outputs to switch on and off only the necessary LEDS that actually need to be updated, and I wouldn’t need that bridging app anymore. I’m sure alot of DN-MC6000 and other midi controller  users would appreciate this because I’ve seen quite a few mappings for the DN-MC6000 and they’re not great for outputs.

Auto loop setting and jump points, so you could ‘edit’ a tune prior to a set, so it automatically loops at certain points and jumps to certain points would be extremely useful in traktor

  • RdB

Had an Idea last night. What if you could link songs that mixed well together. For example you are currently playing “Track1” on deck A, and you have linked “Track2, Track3 and Track4” to “Track1” because you know Track1 will mix very well into any of these three tracks, so in the small redundant browser window on the main screen that only displays a few songs at a time, perhaps this could show you your list of songs linked to the current playing ‘master deck’. This would enable you to build a network of song choice. Normally I will type song names into the comments section if a particular song that works well, but it would just get messy if you had more than one song name in there, and I get board always doing the same mix, plus if they were linked you wouldn’t have to search through your browser. Any thoughts?

    • Joe Carroll

Not necessarily a bad idea in concept, but if you think vinyl purists bitch about auto sync, imagine what they’d say about this ?!

Live Loop Recording into playing Deck, internally or externally.
    For example
    1. Route Synth Plug (or what ever source drum sequence etc) into Traktor Live Feed
    2. Set Loop Size i.e. 2bar loop
    3. Push Record, record is activated via threshold amount OR via quantized downbeat.
    4. Play Loop from synth or whatever
    5. When the bar is over, the recorded loop should resume playback on whatever deck you chose to record too, and allow for DVS manipulation.

I can halfass do this with Ms Pinky and Ableton, but it’s not as seemless as it could be.

THIS^, plus what others have mentioned
    better iTunes intergration
    Scaleable Midi Editing Window

    • JuanSOLO

      Track Warping

  • Iceman Streetz

Stupid autocorrect. I meant Traktor, not “realtor”.

  • Iceman Streetz

Traktor – definitely video integration. I’d choose realtor over VDJ any day if it had that.

  • Euphoricf

The internal mixers Filter should get an additional Knob for editing the resonance.
And it should be possible to switch the filter type by midi.

  • Drew Pluta

Give us a filter and reverb that a pro would actually want to use or give us VST support.  I’d be so happy if I could load my D16 stuff.  These are painfully bad in Traktor

    • Euphoricf

You can disable the beatgrid by selecting your songs, right click and lock them. And then just disable the Grid in the options.

      1+ for Shoutcastsupport.

  • Dj Fernandough

    great post, thanks

  • Faye Smelter

Clip search in Ableton Live? I know that there is a search in the browser section, however, I would like to be able to ‘jump’ to a clip in my session via clip title search… kinda like how its really easy to find songs in Serato/Traktor

  • Jaw-Ear

Im all over the parallel waveforms idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Vox5505

—-More cue points. If there is a memory issue with that, then at least the
ability to make more labels even if they cant be used a cue  points
just so we can write all over the waveform.

    Similarly to what you
said about naming and color coding cue points, color coding parts of
the waveform with different background colors.

    Also, be able to
make more than 1 beat marker so its easier to beat grid songs that
change bpm, not like a live drummer song but a song that has an intro or
break down that is off from the rest of the song.—-

SECONDED. ALL OF THESE ARE SO IMPORTANT.

  • ObviousAlias

One thing I’m kind of confused about is why people are requesting that they can name their cue points in Traktor…  That feature is already in the software.  It may not be integrated in a very usable way, but the feature *is* already there.

  • K.F.MIKE

    Coverflow would be GREAT

  • Jarethmaxy

Cue Points Name and Colour is a great idea!! Also FIX HISTORY!!!

  • Euphoricf

    Oh and this one:
More than one snapshot per selected FX.

  • Euphoricf

Multiple function selection inside of the controller editor to set serveral commands to a midi-note by ONE click.

Resizable Options-window – NI it it’s a vector graphic, so where is the problem?
    More Modifies, maybe eight more?

    Improved midi-out settings.

“Easy learn” like on torq for simple midi-commands.

The trackbrowser should be able to be completely disabled. (When using 4 decks the 3lines showed on the bottom are useless.)

Let the looprecorder record loops from any soundcard output.

Improve the beatgridding – it works almost perfect in about 95%, but the other 5% are sometimes really annoying.

Configurable previewplayer-soundcard-out – in external mode the preview is absolutely useless. Why can’t the output be just routed to the deck where CUE is active?

    More to come soon. 🙂

  • Anonymous

I’m still trying to figure out what is broken with Traktors ‘History’. Could someone explain cus it works fine here.
History is wiped after each session (when Traktor is shut down) this is intended behaviour. Archive has date stamped playlists of all previous sessions with a lot of useful information. If Dan did his set last week and then checked History some days later it is bound to be empty. The Archive entry will have all the relevant information and much more as well.

  • tkrworks

    Effects pre/post setting please!

  • Eberlord

VDJ – Quality Skins (try to make your own, that are compatible to all screen sizes)
          – Easier Mapping (toggle between the options, without having to type something
             in)
          – Important: Better FX (Especially the filter needs improvement: Tracks are
getting very quiet with using the Filter)
          – Maybe colourful Waveforms like in Traktor Pro 2

    • Founts24

      – if you have pro registered, you can get the skin resizer tool, to modify the skins.

      – Mapping is a dream in vdj because your not restricted to traktors way, it’s honestly not a huge learning curve, and when your over it almost anything is possible… there is a limit of about 40 lines of code in wordpad, that’s all.. I have done some crazy things with vdj 🙂

      – you can use basic vst effects in vdj so use qb filter, it’s amazing, there are also some great effects on the forum provided by members, Duen Duen, TexZK, and any effect that modifys the live sound can be chained in a specific sequence.

      – not keen for colored wavforms, djdecks waves are terrible, if we get those I will be dissapointed

  • Don_Cerati

I think being able to warp tunes like in Ableton would be an amazing feat for Traktor!…I’ve been waiting for this in every update, but I guess I’m the only one who thinks is a good idea or think of it at all!

  • Dsharps

Beatgridding is kind of tedious, especially the stretch and shift tools, if those could run faster by clicking and dragging on the button that would be splendiferous.

  • Ryan Supak

Very simple bug fix request for Serato. Currently, if you’ve already booted Serato and then you plug in the Dicer, the Dicer’s LED feedback doesn’t sync up.

To get the LED feedback you have to reboot Serato. Serato is very simple and very refined, so I see little “it just works” things like this to be the main refinements needed.

For Ableton– ability to view all playing waveforms at the same time and save multiple loops and cue points

  • Tom B

The ability to choose the output recorded formats from *.wav. A one hour set is just over half a GB until I down convert it to around 120 MB.

Easier to navigate controller mapping window! I can’t stand when I map a button to a certain function and I didn’t notice it was mapped to something else. For example, I changed the four FX bank assignments (FX1, FX2, Shift+FX1, Shift+FX2) but kept changing the master track.

Real-time iTunes playlist refresh, instead of right-clicking and waiting.

Virtual DJ – Make the filter sound like Traktors and Seratos filter!

    • Founts24

get qb filter, vdj can use vst effects, and qb filters quality is better than any software filter I have heard, and while it has 13 sliders for different parameters, you only need 2 for a standard hp/lp

Just a note…  Traktor does support cue point naming…  Has for several versions…  Just double click on the cue point name and edit.  This is the feature that I loved and was happy when serato finally got it.. 🙂  Color coding would be interesting.

Traktor Pro 2 – Fix the shocking update 2.1.1 that created the CPU load problem, that was then STILL not fixed in 2.1.2 and has meant myself and many other DJs have had to revert to 2.0.3. Shameful testing, shameful updates. Lost a lot of faith in N.I. this year.

    Video plug in for traktor-

  • D3RKIN

Ability to use beat grid tracks with tempo drift without having to warp them in Ableton first, or just have warping capability in Traktor. If this is not possible make a controller for Traktor with a build comparable to the Vci-400 that has some longer pitch faders 100mm at least so it feels closer to 1200’s. Sick of nice controllers having only 60mm pitch faders.

A better integration of iTunes would be my biggest wish for the next update(s). It works perfectly in Torq (due to the .tqd files) but in Traktor it is still a mess. Organising the music collection in iTunes with intelligent playlists is for many of us the perfect solution so please NI, make it happen 🙂

…oh yeah, giving cue points specific names would be great as well 😀

  • thanatos

any app: sequencer for cue point would allow lot more creativity

    • Founts24

vdj has 99 cue points and 99 decks, and all you need to activate for the cue presses to fall perfectly on the beatgrid is smart_cue, you can name all the cuepoints to whatever you want if you require that,

You can also map it so you press a button and set your cue points in a split second and return back to where you are without any audio glitches even as the track is playing, then you can freely play them. Also if you have the cues early or late you can map an encoder or two buttons to finely adjust the positions of all the cues at once.

the only thing vdj can’t yet do is place the cues on beat if the track is playing, stopped however is not a problem & some of the plugin developers are working on a way to have a led on a control matrix like a launchpad turn off or change color when passed in the timeline.

It’s an amazing program when you get past the stigma attached to it 🙂

If you need any help mapping just hit me up on the vdj forum

Traktor – The ability to BeatGrid a song for time changes within the same song (140 bpm then slows down to 120 bpm) or even when the time stays steady but there is a natural uneven break in the track. Not my top necessity personally, but definitely a feature that I’ve noticed would be a great addition. Can’t stand beatgridding a song that is impossible to accurately beatgrid because of a slight slow down or speed up…

  • Carlos Hernandez

I want to be able to control Maschine with Traktor timecode ( a la Bridge ). Syncing Traktor with Maschine is niece and all, but the flexibility of Timecode control will be awsome! Being able to cut and scratch samples directly from MASCHINE and sync it back on, on the fly will open a lot of new possibilities…

I think most of us would give up all the list (and maybe even our firstborn) for just the mapping changes. Resize the widow, import from csv, and PLEASE GET RID OF THE ENCRYPTED MAPPINGS!

Loading more then 3 make it take forever and we can’t ‘dig’ into our mappings anymore. Sometimes NI makes me cry.

    • XISIX

CSV would be ok, just normal XML for the mappings would make it EXTREMELY easy to make mappings without the editor!

  • Kevins212

For the love of god, ni start with making that controller manager mapping window resizeable and have it contain all the fields.

  • Oscarjmg

Traktor midi mapping importing from EXCEL for christ sake…. Is so easy…

  • Joel Westlin

Traktor: Let us play with four decks and still have sample decks. I don’t like swapping during a set.

  • Joel Westlin

ITCH: Better FX, it has to be done. Loads of ppl swap to traktor for this reason.

  • Wishyoudefeat

    um… flexible beatgrids?

  • EuphoricF

    Nice article.
Hey NI: Please consider all these things soon! 🙂

SCRATCH LIVE  – SP6 Tracks sync to a track deck
                            – Midi OutTHE BRIDGE      – Make us use one of the inputs of our SL1,SL2,SL3,SL4 within Ableton. For looping stuff easily via Send & Return.                        – More customisability of the Bridge view in Scratch Live.

  • Reinhard Buchinger

Additionally to your ideas Traktor in my opinion needs:

Advanced HID support for Pioneer’s CDJs
    – It’s about time, Serato had it for years, even VDJ has it!
    – Also support for the CDJ350 & 850 Basic HID mode.
See (& sign) my Advanced HID petition:

    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/native-instruments-traktor-advanced-hid/

    Better library behavior/features:
    – Incremental savings of the library – now if it rarely crashes*, all your
history (that one that it saves to the external playlist files) as well
as all changes to the library are gone since the last start of Traktor (or the last press of save library)
    – I hate the folder/playlist list jumping to where I not want it after dragging files between playlists
    – Playlist sorting in the library
    – Smart playlists based on specified criteria
    – Better support for moving libraries between disks and computers and automatic disk search for files it cannot find in the previous folder

    * Better support for aggregated Core Audio devices. If I happen to have 2 CDJs aggregated and accidently unplug one, Traktor crashes (almost) every time.

And NI needs to better communicate with their users. Using Twitter as a one way news channel is a bit old school. Also they should give us more insight on what is going to happen in the future and embrace tools such as http://www.uservoice.com

Don’t get me wrong, I’m an avid Traktor user but these things just drive me crazy 🙁

  • MixMan

Why nobody ask for a better Browser ?

  • Blah

Ableton: please provide the same MIDI functionality as Traktor from 7.x up.
    Serato: as above.

  • Marco F

Traktor Sample Group Loading Please! Being able to load a preset group of loops onto the sample decks would be pretty awesome!

Traktor Pro has always supported giving names to your Cue Points…

  • olivier

TRAKTOR – Since i mainly mix house music (4by4 beats) i would love a feature where the software automatically places cue points or markers or something (seperate from the beat juggle cue points) every 32 beats (or 64 etc) of a song starting from the first beat (if the option to do this is selected) so that we can use those points to skip through a song to start it from where we want and get it synced and the structure lined up with the laying song and we can then ‘save’ cue points for beat juggling etc. I use an s4 and use the beatjump knob to skip thought songs before playing them, it would be amazing if the software would place points so that we can directly jump to these important points whilst mixing incase we want to skip to a place where we forgot to place a point. :p

    • erikt6

that would be a cool feature.  I currently use the BeatJump +32 feature in a similar way, for live arranging.  Its great for loading up doubles and jumping ahead +32 on the second deck to layer a dropout and get through it quicker

    • RdB

Have to agree with this one, some colored markers to show every 32 beats, or any other choseable length would be great, just like the one minut markers on the beat grid. Would really help out a lot of new djs starting out, me included. Nothing worse whan that 8 beats of akwardness between a mix because you forgot the new song snuck in a extra bit of length into the intro.

+100 on the rewire for Traktor………
Pain in the rear end using Jackpilot and midi sync…..

Nice list. I started a poll, cause I thought it would be interesting to see which ones are the favorites. Maybe NI could take the list and run with it with the priorities from the poll?:)

    Here is the poll: http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/showthread.php?p=403568

My favorites are Fix Mapping, Fix History and Alternate Layouts.

    smart playlists in traktor

  • Per Jakobsen

I concur with all these points. and seriously NI 🙂 some of them are quick wins .

  • Josh Ralph

make itch compatible with more controllers without having to map it ourselves

  • Jasonmd2020

I would love more Midi out options beyond LEDs. It’d be great to have commands in Traktor trigger other hardware or software like VJ equipmment.

    • Tomislav Simi? ToS

So what is the difference? Map your software to traktor midi output.

  • niknik

i want more hot girls to love me for my cue points and melt every time I press them.

    • Markku Uttula

“them” referring to the girls or the cue points?

  • producer.dj.engineer

for traktor, my most desired feature is a warp marker system to play acoustic tracks with shifting bpm. this was a feature that almost made me go with torq, if traktor had this the program would beat ableton/serato bridge and torq at their own game

    • Audio Domini

i never thought of that, but it would be amazing. i always have t use ableton to warp tracks then export my own warped version for use in tractor. but that would make it soo much quicker

    • Duncan MacLennan

      So true.

The F1 is a step toward more ableton style performing, but having to edit tracks before hand to make sure Traktor’s sync can be reliable is an outdated workflow

  • Kellen

You guys KILLED it with this one, SO THANKFUL that you guys with the voice you have are bringing up these brilliant solutions, we have all been wanting them and needing them in order to get workflow at full potential.  Post like this remind me why i have been a dedicated user of your site for 4+ years

  • dim.po

    Also, i think
It will be great if traktor have advnced beatgriding method – like warping in Ableton live.
For oldschool disco songs and rock, where beats are not constant in one bpm.

    Sorry for my english, guys

  • Tobamai

I’d like to say that I’d *never* use rewire or bridge features… I’d much rather they put their time into over-under waveforms, more versatile midi bindings, or better itunes integration.

    • kramerbuccs24

      agreed on all accounts

  • ian

    Dear DJ Tech Tools…

Please hire an editor. You made a number of mistakes in this article you could have easily caught with a read through before publishing…

    *ahem*

    • ian

But for the record… YES… I want my Traktor parallel waveforms! PLZ!

    • Jeup

pleese pei fore thhis symple hyre.andt eht weel b fyine,

  • Nolan Cook

different beatgrids per song. like if a song changes from 140 to 174, i should be able to actually set a 2nd beatgrid in the same song

    • ian

You can do that in Traktor…

      • Ben

        Not at a different bpm

        • Romaeo

a second beatgrid? i dont think so… care to explain how to use the feature? for all i know you can change the actual beatgrid to your preference but setting a 2nd beatgrid is unheard of in traktor. but if there is let us know!

          • Thomashsek

midi command in old traktor : set beat grid … and you can have 2+ beatgrids with different settings 😛

Nowadas its eazy with 2.6. mapping mode…. 12hours long mapping process reduced to 3hours … LOVE

    • Squeebtron

this is super important! great point nolan

  • DJ T3CHRON

It would be pretty sick to see some mapping for Torq come from DJTT.  Torq 2.0.3 has features that Traktor and Serato still need to work into the software.

  • Djtechnician

Traktor needs a better auto analizing when adding beatmarkers.
Also make it so maps can be added on to an existing map instead of replacing it.

  • Simon Siddy

More cue points. If there is a memory issue with that, then at least the ability to make more labels even if they cant be used a cue  points just so we can write all over the waveform.

Similarly to what you said about naming and color coding cue points, color coding parts of the waveform with different background colors.

Also, be able to make more than 1 beat marker so its easier to beat grid songs that change bpm, not like a live drummer song but a song that has an intro or break down that is off from the rest of the song.

  • Jim Robinson

When it comes to Torq, I wish they’d fix the constant drop in connection between the controller (Xponent) and the software itself. I am afraid to go full-time with Torq due to that reason alone. I once crashed during a live set giving Torq a chance. I mean, I want to give it another try, but the software can be so cumbersome sometimes. Avid needs to fix that asap. Also, would it kill them to have more distinguished parameters on in the fx section?

  • Djcricri

Mix Recording for Traktor (like in Traktor Dj studio 2.6…) !!! this is a + for Radio Show where we need to make accurate edits

  • DJ M.T.

Traktor MIDI mapping in the same style as in Ableton Live

    • JuanSOLO

Traktors MIDI Mapping is far superior to Ableton. Traktors MIDI mapping gives you tons of possibilities, i.e. creating custom multi layered mappings with LED feedback options and a variety values. Live’s midi mapping is primitive, you cant even map 2 different controls to the same parameter? If anything Ableton needs to map like Tracktor.

serato itch compatibility with the midi fighter!

  • Guest22

    1) Graphic EQ on master
    2) Mono Maker on Master
    3) Delete all Lady Gaga “songs” from all radios,tv,computers etc….

  • GianPaJ

    For Midi Mapping on Traktor:
It shouldn’t be that difficult to implement a mapping for the buttons such as in Ableton or Serato, where by which you go into Midi Mapping Mode, you select button or knob in the software with the mouse and the you push a button or rotate a knob on the controller.
That would make the mapping so much easy.

  • John Dorman

Module Components for Traktor. Just being able to move things around and show only what I want when I want. Having mapping buttons to change what is shown. I like the layout but I would like more control and freedom over what I see.

  • Arovia

be able to view all 4 fx units and audio recorder / mater clock in traktor at once …

    • Dj Lottos

its possible with a big enough screen. at least in traktor scratch pro

      • Arovia

oh really ? how? i have Traktor scratch pro. and i can only see 4 fx units or the master clock/audio recorder, not all att the same time.
