At DJTT HQ, we’re constantly asked when controllerism-focused artists will come to your towns across the US and Canada – and we’re excited to share the news that Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, and Ean Golden have all teamed up to build an incredible joint tour, CNTRL. The tour starts at the end of October, with dates along the US East Coast, Midwest, and Canada (West Coast dates might be coming in 2013!) – details inside!
The CNTRL tour will be focused on showing how advancements in music technology can lead to incredible and dynamic onstage performances and in addition to Richie, Loco, and Ean, a number of guest artists will be popping onto various dates through out the tour, including Carl Craig, Kevin Saunderson Seth Troxler, Victor Calderone, Josh Wink, and Paco Osuna.
The tour combines daytime seminars at major colleges and universities with a performance later that night at a venue near the campus – meaning if you’ve been looking to learn from some of the controller greats, this is your perfect opportunity. Here are the curriculum details from the press release:
- Richie Hawtin on using technology to control creativity
- Loco Dice on old-school DJ-ing with modern technology
- Hawtin’s sound technician Johannes Krämer on the importance of sound quality
- Ean Golden on digital DJ-ing and controllerism
- Q&A with CNTRL artists and special guest speakers
I talked to Ean briefly and asked him what he’s pumped for about this tour:
“It’s about exposing the younger generation of EDM fans to the deeper side of electronic music through creative technology. I’m really excited to go out on the road and meet fans and see what people really care about.”

how do we get to the daytime seminars? the show looks cool, but i wanna learn something.
Can you stream them?
From right to left:
said everything he had to say
wondering what to say next
cut off mid sentence
See ya on the 16th.
definitely a treat. i saw Hawtin about the same time last year in NYC around my birthday. Will def. be a treat to see him again this year.
any seminars in buffalo while you guys are here???????
ean im in buffaloare you guys doing any seminars during the day when you come here???
Hey Ean,
I see that you’re coming to UWO, where will you be giving the seminar on campus? There’s no info on it on the page for the event.
Thanks
I wish you could understand how excited I am to see you perform live Ean! And learn from you!
It’s a little hard to count asterisks after 5 of them ******, lol, jk guys
Stop going to Buffalo, and just go to Rochester
Guys…we need you here in Berlin!!!!
See you guys in Montreal 😀
Please do one tour like that in Europe!!!!
Congrats Ean, this is a huge accomplishment. 5 years of DJ Tech Tools and now this, way to go! I’m sure BETA in Denver would love to have you guys swing through…
Wonderful initiative! Congrats!!
Really exciting news! See you guys at Drexel.
Oh man, Why is this only west coast. I would love for you guys to come to the north west.
Who is Richie Hawtin and Loco Dice?
not sure if trolling…
When will tickets go on sale? How can I buy them?
Checked Websterhalls page no mention of the event or tickets. Does anybody going to Webster hall know where we can purchase some tix?
No west coast US dates?? o_O WtH???
So awesome! The only question – will i be the dork that wears my DJTT shirt to the seminar/show? Yup.
I will geek out with you bruther
Why did you switched places on the pic?
UK!!!!
How can we find out how we can attend the university sessions? Would LOVE to hear what everyone has to say, and Drexell is a whopping 15 minute subway ride…do we have to get ahold of the university? or is there going to be some sort of ticketing for those to that will be combined with the shows? I really hope they get you guys some additional sound for The Electric Factory…i highly recommend who ever is promoting that show to get Rob Paine’s Solomonic Sound System in there too! You want that place to rumble, yet be TIGHT as can be, you want Rob’s system in there…anyway, can’t wait to see you all in Philly!
Come on guys, you couldn’t figure out a better system to indicate performers than using “*”s… super hard to figure out who is coming where. Try a alpha numeric system (ex. A1 = Richie, Loco & Ean. B1 = Richie Hawtin, Loco Dice, Josh Wink, Ean Golden. etc)
But I am excited to see the show coming to Illinois. Gotta decide if I wanna see it in Chicago (my home) or Urbana (my alma mater)… decisions, decisions
Drexel & the Electric factory, fuck yeah! I live like an hour away from there. I’m definitely goin to this!!
im 14, would i be able to go to the montreal gig or is there an age restriction?
Ean Golden needs to get his ass down to Europe, specifically Brussels…
So when can I get tickets for this and how much??
Come to Europe!
So much incredible controllerism and good music going on in Europe, we’d be psyched to have you!
Ean I’m spanish but I`m staying in SF for about 4 months! when i started to read this article i thought I would have the chance to participate in that stuff!! but baang NO SAN FRANCISCO???
I would relly like to see you on a gig… do you have any gig on sf before january??
Super bummed ill be on the tail end of a cross canada tour and will miss this in Toronto by a week. DO THIS MORE OFTEN!!!!!!
Come to CO!
would be awesome if you guys could come up to sudbury between that toronto and detroit gig!
please record the talks so people outside of the US can see them!
Don’t be afraid to stop by Utah…. especially not Utah Valley University. I know you’ll make this guy < pretty stoked to be alive.
Are they going to have a big screen up with computer screen shots so people can see what they are doing?
Sad, nothing for Slovakia:-)
Denver!!!!
Will you be filming some of this so us poor souls who can’t get to see this live can still at least see what is being discussed and done? Doesn’t have to be every seminar every day, but some of the good ones would be nice.:)
scamo
Some videos or maybe even some routine previews would be like christmas^^
Where’s Moldover? The guy literally invented controllerism. You guys owe a lot to him and he should be there at least in a guest role.
Moldover’s currently in the middle of the US leg of his 2012 SuperVillain tour. I’m guessing the dates for the two tours clashed, making it impossible for Matt to take part in CNTRL. Good news for me though, since that means he’s also coming to the UK as part of the European leg of his tour in January. YAY!
Holy christ, you’re coming to my university!?
See ya in Philly. Can’t wait!!!!
If you do decide to tour california, don’t forget to make a stop at the biggest city in central cali…Fresno, Ca
Nothing for Miami?!
Is there any reason to hope for a video of the daytime seminars? Want to go, but US and A is far, far away.
what about no *’s? i.e. Dayton, OH?
Yeah what’s up with Dayton. Why is it anything cool near Cincy is always the one f’d up lol. Seriously guys, whats up with Dayton. Also can you post something about how to sign up for the classes. I can’t find ish on the interwebs.
Come to Colorado! Fort Collins in Northern Colorado has a great community of electronic artists that DJ and use controllers! Here are just a couple examples: http://soundcloud.com/atomic-reactor, http://soundcloud.com/dalco, http://soundcloud.com/the-acidophiles, and humbly me: http://soundcloud.com/nyevz. We have the beautiful Colorado State University where we would love to host you! http://www.colostate.edu/, and two nearby venues that would also love to see you guys rock out : ) http://www.aggietheatre.com/ and http://www.hodishalfnote.com/
I’m sure Los Angeles would love to see this. Why no west coast love?
I was sad when I saw this not confirmed for the west coast
Hey Everyone, I think the hope is to take this tour on the west coast and to other nations in the future. Each part of the country takes almost a month to do, so it’s a huge time commitment from every artist. Personally I would love to tour the west coast and europe soon!
see you in buffalo bro, can’t wait!
I would love to look into booking this in 2013 for a daytime clinic at The Musicians institute in Hollywood. Who do I contact?
please plan a tour to south africa
I’ll be seeing you guys at Columbia!!!
see ya in boston!!
Not a single Texas date… even though we have notable schools in the area, and Austin is a major music hot spot in the US…. sad Day….
Agreed, bad move from a business standpoint too. There are plenty of outliers that would drive 2-3 hours for the right event(s). Oh well, good idea and shouldn’t be too hard for somebody around here to ‘dupe. DJ Craze & Andy C (Lizard Lounge) & Seba & Klute (Two:Tone @ Boiler Room) have all come through recently in Deep Ellum, so I guess will just keep supporting local and running the only DJTT style lab in my circle.
Should add VON to the Madison date. He uses an X1, Novation Launchpad and Midi Fighter classic all in his setup. Plus he slays live too.
fn awesome im in buffalo and need to see this master of traktor ean,,,i will be there ,,just made my day,,so pumped im new at all this and cant wait
come over to whistler or vancouver! (please?)
Please make it to the Windy City.
hope you make it over to seattle!
Interested in doing a Houston show? If so, PM me on FB. My buddy has a club here.
Check out Richis arm in that photo o_O Looks mental skinny 😀
Seriously tho – good luck with the tour!
KC :*(
Lol… Dayton, OH is the one closest to me and it doesn’t have a *. Does this mean none of them is coming and it will be the same d-bag spinning Scissor Sisters remixes? (Masque is a gay club).
yeah Dayton, OH would be closest to me as well, what does a lack of a * mean?
Any chance of this coming to the west coast?
Let´s book something in Atlanta. I could help.
awww no San Diego :'(
