Serato DJ Gets DVS Support, New Pioneer, Rane Mixers and Controller

Just announced today, the merging of Serato’s DJ softwares has begun – bringing DVS support to Serato DJ with the launch of  a new version of the program, 1.5. The announcement comes in tandem with three new pieces of gear: the Rane Sixty-Four mixer, a Pioneer DJM-900 SRT Serato DJ Edition, and the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 controller. Read on for all of the details.

SERATO DJ 1.5: DVS SUPPORT

As many industry experts predicted, developing three different programs (Scratch Live, DJ, DJ Intro) would serve only to frustrate and bog down Serato’s development cycle – and that a unification between them would be inevitable. Today we get to see the complete plan:

  • October 2013: 1.5 Release – Vinyl and CDJ control added to Serato DJ for the new mixers
  • December 2013: 1.6 Beta – Beta DVS support for Sixty-Eight, Sixty-Two, Sixty-One, SL2, SL3, SL4
  • February 2014: 1.6 Release Full DVS support for above mixers + soundcards

Serato is bringing their trademarked NoiseMap DVS technology from Scratch Live into Serato DJ, meaning that you’re not going to need new timecode CDs/vinyl, and that it will continue to be the same reliable engine that DVS users have grown highly accustomed to performing under pressure.

End Of The Line: Of note, the Rane SL1 and Rane 57SL will not be receiving DVS support – apparently the technology in the soundcards in each is too limiting to be supported in Serato DJ.

Watch Serato’s CEO Sam Gribben detail more information about the future of Serato Scratch Live, Serato DJ, and more in the video below:

NEW MIXERS + CONTROLLER

Pioneer DJM-900SRT

Pioneer DJM-900SRT
Release Date:
October 2013
Price: $2,799 MSRP

For the first time ever, Pioneer will be offering a plug-and-play Serato-compatible DJM mixer – a Serato DJ version of the popular DJM-900 unit. The unit has the exact same layout as the DJM-900 Nexus, with the same Beat and Color FX that many DJs are familiar with.

The only difference of note is that the mixer has four Phono level inputs – while the Nexus version only has two. While it’s great that now Serato users will have easy access to a Pioneer DJM mixer, we’re concerned that this will only make things a bit more confusing for DJs with two nearly identical models that are only plug-and-play compatible with certain softwares. You’ll have to know if the club has a Nexus or SRT model in order to tell if you need to plug in your own external soundcard or not – no fun!

Rane Sixty-Four

Rane Sixty-Four
Release Date:
October 2013
Price: $2100 street price ($2749 MSRP)

The Rane Sixty-Four is, at first glance, nearly identical in layout to the Rane Sixty-Eight mixer – albeit with a price tag that’s about $500 cheaper. With dual usb ports, built-in feature control and soundcard routing for Serato DJ, and a post-fader USB insert FX feature, the feature set holds true as well. Noticeable additions include Sync and Slip buttons on each of the Serato DJ control strips – features that weren’t around when the Sixty-Eight was being designed.

While Rane is touting this mixer as a four channel Sixty-Two, it feels very much like the Sixty-Eight has had a bit of a makeover for this Serato DJ launch.

Pioneer DDJ-SP1

Pioneer DDJ-SP1 Controller
Release Date:
October 2013
Price: $499 MSRP

The SP1 is designed to take some of the most interesting features from the Pioneer DDJ-SX and put them into a standalone controller that complements DVS and mixer-only setups that might otherwise ignore some of Serato’s advanced features. Hotcues, Rolls, Slicers, Samplers, FX controls/assignment, deck loading, slip, censor, and looping can all be controlled with this unit.

It’s very much a modern version of the Denon HC-1000S, which was designed to give DVS users access to some of the transport and loop controls without having to use a keyboard or mouse.

More details on the Pioneer products later tonight or tomorrow. Initial reactions to the new direction that Serato is taking? Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments below!

Just received mine today. The one complaint I have is that the volume fader caps were all crooked like crooked teeth on a teenager! They don’t line up straight and the caps don’t come off so you can’t adjust it. Very poor build quality for such an expensive mixer.

this is for the Pioneer DJM-900 SRT mixer

Rane brought the 64 by yesterday and I’ll also be showcasing it at the 3AC festival this week in Atlanta.

The Rane 64 & New Serato DJ are absolutely BEASTLY!
    1. Run 2 laptops with Serato…AND Traktor at the same time!!
    2. Slip mode, roll loops, regular loops, & all 8 cues built in.
    3. post fader efx, external efx send, aux input with effects, & filter
    4. crazy fader curve and the faders feel GREAT….how ever the upfaders are to close
    5. ZERO channel hum even at MAX VOLUME!!
    6. Shift EFX functions
    7. Full cut EQs
    8. SYNC control from the mixer
    9. External MIDI routing. So you can plug in other devices and still map them (like an X1 controller or a Nanopad)
    10. 2 Mic channels that can be switched to Line inputs ANNNNDD one has Phantom power, so if you want to use it in the studio or radio station it’s got it covered!!
    11. Use the EFX on the mics/line in as well!
    12. Use the factory or save your OWN presets
    13. INFINITE EFX!!
^^^I created a beat using infinite ECHO. Everything I did on the fly and it kept it in perfect timing. I then freed up my decks and freestyled over it. ABSOLUTELY SICK!

*****I think the price is ridiculous BUT Rane has made it clear they will only make the best gear. These mixers are geared at upper end professionals not the bar/wedding/bedroom DJs. The mixer is incredible quality, sounds great, and feels great.

OPINIONS PEOPLE: Do you think its a bad time to buy an SL2/SL3/SL4. Considering all the new things coming to serato/serato DJ i don’t wish to purchase a new card for them to release a new one early next year.

  • bigd4112002

    thats why there is NI

  • Jimmy Burn

500 buck for the sp1 is insane

  • Nolan Walker

I’m curious about how this will affect the long term relationship
between Rane and Serato. As many people know, the Serato/Rane
exclusivity contract pertains only to the Scratch Live software (which is why Serato Itch, Intro, and now DJ have all been more “open” in terms of available hardware and not required to be paired with Rane hardware, and also why the Serato team is able to have a branded Pioneer mixer, as it is
for the DJ software and not Scratch Live). I mean, I foresee Rane
continuing to produce quality hardware mixers, but with this new
development, are they now able to also produce a dedicated Traktor
mixer? Or even a mixer that is plug and play with both DJ and Traktor?
I’m sure there are legal issues that we will never be fully aware of,
but with Scratch Live essentially being shelved for future development,
that ends the exclusivity deal for both companies, and that is an
    interesting possibility…

    • James Brian Thomaston

A Rane Traktor version of the Z2 would be pretty badass.

    • Kutmaster TeeOh

For now Rane is producing products for Serato, there is talk of the possibility of expanding but nothing concrete.

  • KIO

Wouldn’t integrating Serato’s three main DJ softwares into one flagship software justify a Serato DJ 2.0? And whatever happened to DJ 1.4?

  • J Williams

I love this, Serato continues to step up their game. Hopefully the DVS will be as stable as SL. I am so glad that Serato is trying to attract those EDM dj/producers out there which is awesome. . I hope NI is taking notice and stop trying to follow the Apple model. The Apple model only works so long(See Android) I love Traktor, but NI needs to step up its game in the certification/ licensing dept. It seems that all the new gear has either Serato DJ or Virtual. Traktor is an awesome software, but is limited to NI gear and few others(VCI, Reloop) if you want it to work properly. Secondly, NI new gear has been lackluster in some aspects. The Z2 is great for Traktor internally, but for external applications, I don’t see the worth over some better(real) mixers in a similar price bracket like Denon dn x1600. Also, the release of the X1 Mk2 was pointless, the original X1 was perfectly fine for modualar uses. Why spend 200 for just a touchstrip. The video that Ean Golden made clearly showed no reason to buy the new one. Finally ,the HID support sham,.A real shame that the cdj 350, 850, denon sc2900 and sc3900 aren’t supported. Midi is fine for buttons, not for jogs and knobs. For these reasons, a lot of Traktor users are taking a serious look at Serato dj . I see many forums about jumping ship to Serato all the time.. Serato is still the industry standard in clubs in the US. I am from the Midwest, and mostly all the clubs have sl boxes or Serato gear. Hopefully, NI will open up the Hid support for more devices. If not, Serato DJ maybe a viable choice.

    • James Brian Thomaston

If they are, they should compare them side by side. I use both, and Traktor is much, much better. My jogs work fine through midi, as do my knobs. Not sure why you would say they don’t.. Just look at the comments above and see how many Serato users are now thinking about Traktor.. Compare them side by side, you will see that Traktor performs much better than the current version of DJ, perhaps they will improve it, but the first 4 versions have all been buggy.

      • Iram

dafuq are you even saying? “just look up and see how many people wants to go to traktor?” Yeah i looked up and saw three people, including you. While there are cry babies out there with their TTM 57 who wants to use their equipment which was discontinued THREE FUKING YEARS AGO and somehow use new and fresh updates(? ), there are lots of people who wants to move to Serato. You need to agree that Serato is closing in with Traktor in the aspects of EDM djs.

The only thing I have complaints about is the bridge (which they said they are going to have in the later future) and the use of SP-6 sampler. I always wanted Serato to somehow make the SP-6 sampler like the Remix decks (sorry is that the correct name?) that Traktor has. Other than that, personally, I like Serato.

        • James Brian Thomaston

perhaps you should look at all the other posts of this news. I have seen at least 2-3 people on every thread saying that. And I dont need to agree to anything. I have used both and know the possibilities and restrictions. Serato DJ’s inability to be remapped is one of the biggest draw backs, but then I am used to Traktor which is extremely flexible in that right.

          • Iran

First of all, I’ve seen people “complaining” not transferring in serato’s forum, djworx, and djtechtools. Most of them already got their solutions by buying SL2s or buying the Sixty-One.

          • elmooso

            ^^^
Serato Fanboy derp reaching pants on head levels. Just walk away James…. not worth the dead brain cells.

          • James Brian Thomaston

they come out in droves once DJ came out, unfortunately most of them haven’t really used it yet.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

Are you still talking about mapping serato? I have a Traktor X1 and dicers custom mapped. You have no idea what you are talking about.

          • James Brian Thomaston

You can not map Serato DJ unless an approved controller is attached. So, YES I do know what I am talking about, as I have been using DJ for 3 months now.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

Lol, you are complaining about a software you CHOOSE…. don’t like it then go to Itch or SSL. The new version will allow mapping. Since I’ve been testing it, just demo’d the 64, and just did the A3C festival with Rane….I’m pretty sure I know what I’m talking about. lol. And for the record, you can map ANYTHING. If you know what you are doing.

          • James Brian Thomaston

Itch no longer gets support or updates, and SSL is $600. So yes, I could shell out MORE money on their gear. OR I could just hope that they fix it so that it works with MY gear. This entire post is about DJ, so why would you come here and try to dog me for commenting on THIS software? AND NO YOU CAN NOT REMAP THE VCI 400 with SERATO DJ! If you think you can, make a video and prove, otherwise STFU!

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

Wow you are not only dumb but an a*shole.

The VCI400 is supported by Serato DJ http://serato.com/hardware/vestax-vci-400

It is NOT supported by the soon to be released Serato DJ…..yet.

and YES you can remap it. You need an application like Midipipe. It takes the signal of ANYTHING midi and directs it where you want. How can you say you can’t midi map a midi controller thats fully mappable? lol

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

You cry and moan about buying different gear so stick with what you have and shut up. You can’t expect a company to keep updating old technology when the market is going a different direction. Either way you are gonna put a skirt on and b*tch. So either continue being a girl about it or solve the issue. You think Serato is going to listen to you and fix your problems? Lol, yea right. So the only solution is get new gear or stick with what you have. Either way, your constant whining gets you no where.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

So you are whining because your old ass controller isn’t supported. Lol. You can’t be up to date AND cheap at the same time. Keep whining….maybe my guys Dean or Mike May at Serato will hear you and do it just to shut you up. lol

      • Iram

By the way, they SPECIFICALLY said there is no way to work the newest features of Serato DJ to the TTM 57sl, u know that. how the fk can they proceed along? Also, you still have SSL till 2015.

        • James Brian Thomaston

what does that have to do with my post?? I never even mentioned SSL…

          • Iram

I was picking on you and some cry babies out there who are transferring to Traktor just because of a fact that they nonetheless need to face later on. You first said “look up and see how many people who wants to go to traktor” and yeah I only saw three, including you. They arn’t a lot of people transferring to Traktor just because of the Serato 1.5 update and the TTM 57sl not havin’ the updates from Serato DJ.

I feel so confused when DJs have their equipment that is discontinued three or five years ago and still wants “new” and “fresh” updates from the software company. The equipment is already too old. Deal with it. In this case, the cry babies are the selfish ones. And they are even giving them bug fixes till 2015. How is this NOT fair? The TTM 57sl was built 7 years ago. Seriously, if you like the mixer, you can use SSL or just buy a SL2.

          • James Brian Thomaston

You must have me confused, I never mentioned the SL1, and as someone who bought Traktor 2 a year ago, and Serato DJ months ago when it came out.. I am not being a cry baby, as no new development by EITHER of these two, effects my wallet. I have the VCI 400, which is open to any platform, and seeing as I have BOTH, I feel I can at least give a comment relating to how those TWO perform side by side. Which is what I said on my original post, which STILL has nothing to do with crying and/or the SL1, as I DO NOT OWN ONE… Also, my comments of people leaving Serato, AGAIN does not limit itself to this post. On every Facebook, djtt, djworks, sites etc, you will see many of the Serato faithful now looking at Traktor, for 2 reasons. 1)they hate Sync, and if they are going to deal with it, they want the one that does the better job of it, and 2) because they have better effects and free upgrades. PLUS, they are completely mappable which means you can turn anything, even an old midi keyboard into a controller, Serato does not allow for that, and to me, that is the main draw back to their software. Sorry for the confusion.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

            1. Better sync? No such thing. SYNC relies on the analysis of the tracks.
            2. Better effects? Not really. What amazing effect does Traktor have that Serato doesn’t? What makes an effect better?
            3. Free upgrades? Not true. Traktor has various software they’ve charged for. Not to mention they produce various controllers that do the same thing as the previous ones with minor alterations.
            4. Completely mappable? Been doing that with Serato for years. I’ve mapped everything from a TV remote to an XBOX controller. So once again, you are speaking from YOUR experience and knowledge.

**The reason Traktor has so many issues is BECAUSE of the way they leave it open source. I DJ, produce reviews, and troubleshoot DJ issues daily. Most commonly Traktor because it’s confusing to most. Mapping is a pain in the a** in Traktor and if something messes up, good luck. I get about 80% more clients calling about Traktor than Serato issues. Serato eliminates all those issues by providing various controllers for consumers. Meanwhile, if you want to customize map it you can.

          • James Brian Thomaston

You are right. I am wrong, thanks for the long reply. I still prefer Traktor.

          • James Brian Thomaston

I own a vci 400, and both Traktor and Serato DJ. Both PAID for.. so if anyone has a place to compare them side by side with no reason to lie or choose one or the other… why would you consider it being a cry baby? and again.. Where in the hell did you get that I said I had SSL?? BTW, side by side, Traktor smokes Serato DJ. Believe me or not, I have no reason to lie.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

No it doesn’t. I run both and there is only minor differences other than the tone control and serato video. Other than that, there is nothing one can do that the other can’t. Stop trying to boost yourself up just because you use traktor. People much smarter and more talented have done comparisons on the 2, they agree there is nothing major. Most Traktor users pick a couple effects and use only those. Just like Serato users. Most Traktor users use about 60% of the functionality and that’s it. There is so much you can do with Traktor AND Serato that most people don’t use. Why? They don’t know or it already does what they need.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

BTW, you are limited to what you can do because of the controller you use. Throw Traktor and Serato on turntables, get the full on version of both softwares, and compare. Each company caters to a different group of DJs.

    • Andrew Peek

Yeah but we are still holding out for HID support on the CDJ-850 (and others of course) for Serato DJ as well… Im pretty sure it will happen but it may take up to a year from the 1.6 release as well.

  • thugsucker

I really really hope they’d allow DVS through Vestax VCI380.

  • thejone

Oh great now venues will either be Serato venues or Traktor venues depending on which mixer they buy. I mean seriously how frikken cynical.
Why not make one mixer that can do both?
As we say here in Australia, they’re taking the piss.

  • mehhh....

500 bucks for a ddj sp1? wow thats a tad much for such a plain piece of kit even for pioneer

    • DJ yoni

You said it brother, but how cool would it be to use some tech12’s with the ddj-sx capabilities. I have both systems but only use the ddjsx for mobile parties, now I could choose either one!

  • Sagar Samtani

just checked out the video.. i must say, one of the best, well put together, product knowledge & information video ever.

the CEO not only introduced the new features and a new product, but also addressed most issues/doubts people are going to have.. even as to kindly touching on the “sync” topic.

    mad props to Serato.

  • Sagar Samtani

Great Stuff, it was the logical step to take by Serato, and am glad they did. They are now becoming a serious contender against Traktor.

  • Dancemidi

    “THE BRIDGE” ??

    • Kutmaster TeeOh

      Rane is working on it

  • DJ Roman J

I definitely think this is a good move for Serato. Just having one product, serato dj and focusing all their resources on it. For the user, serato dj, scratch live, and serato dj intro, was all too confusing. Sad to see the 57 and SL1 go away and be discontinued but it happens. I’m so glad I have the 62, seems like it’s going to carry on for the next decade…

  • Pabs

So why not push a Firmware update to the current DJM 900 Nexus, or is it only USB 1.0?

    • Gavin

It is probably a contractual thing with NI and Serato. One, or maybe even both of the companies, must have been against it. But in reality that is what should be done.

      The 900Nexus is USB2.0.

      • Pabs

I already sent a tweet to both serato and pioneer, call me a dreamer but perhaps we should put some heat on them about this 🙁

        • Conall

Totally ridiculous, is a mixer compatible with both traktor and serato, with 2 usb ports really too much to ask for?

          • Pabs

lol not sure if you are supporting me or mocking me lol
But they could use some regressive software technique…
            – keep current firmware for NI
            – update to v### for serato support
            – downgrade to previous version or version #### to roll back to NI…

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

The 2 companies would not agree to that.

  • Aaron Jaraba

PHOTO Inputs! I’ve always wanted to connect my Canon 5D to my mixer….

  • Bcrogan

Serato FX suck anyways. It offers nothing other than ableton support that is better than traktor. And traktor is FAR FAR cheaper.

      • Jake Giossi

Ditto what Dan said. SDJ just got a host of KILLER FX options in 1.3 (some free, some a mere $19 fee), and there are more on the way!!!

As it stands right now, SDJ has nearly caught up with Traktor in the FX department, and it’s only going to continue getting better and better. It’s refreshing to see Serato really breaking out the big guns for once, and I can’t wait to see what they have coming down the road in SDJ 2.0…or what’s coming in Traktor Pro 3 for that matter!

        • James Brian Thomaston

Until Serato DJ allows custom mapping of their controllers, they will be nowhere near Traktor’s FX capabilities. Just look up some of the jog effects combinations on this site, and you will see that Serato has a very long way to go before their FX are even close. Plus Traktors FX updates are free.

        • Bcrogan

No it has not in any way. They do not sound nearly as good as traktors. Not in any way shape or form.

  • Bcrogan

Great so my ttm 57 is now worthless. Fuck you Serato.

    • MR MICL

Check the video on the website… The said the reason they are have decided not to continue support was a Hardware issue… the SL1 and TTM57Sl are all USB1 devices… Me being a loyal 57 user does think this sucks… But think of it as a testament to the fact we have had the same mixer for the better part of a decade… besides… The 62 is dope upgrade… So if you want top value for your mixer (Which as a standalone mixer is still pretty damn dope..) Sell it now and upgrade with the money you make. lol

      • Bcrogan

I don’t see how adding some more effex that work fairly robustly with 57 already would be a problem. Do you? The 57 is a midi controller that controls software. The software and your computer are what determine the stability of the effects, not the mixer.

You can control very processor intensive multi layered effects with an M – Audio usb 1.0 10 year old keyboard. There is no reason not to be able to do that with the 57.

This is a pure nonsense Apple move to get people to buy new hardware.

        • DJSuchAndSuch

But…your 57 is worthless? Can you not still use Scratch Live? You’re just not getting new features added anymore…the software is pretty stable after 10 years.

          • Bcrogan

But I want those new features. And I don’t see any valid reason other than money grubbing forced upgrading not to add them to expensive hardware like the 57.

          • Joseph Moore

The 57 is simply not capable of the new features and effects that Serato DJ brings. There’s only so much that they can do with hardware that’s a decade old.

Like SuchAndSuch said, if you’re happy with what works now, keep using it, they’ll continue supporting Scratch Live until 2015. If you want the latest and greatest, however, it’s time to upgrade your hardware.

          • DJ Yoni

Hey crybaby, new shit comes out all the time. Did you expect to use the 57 forever? new isn’t always bad. in fact i always felt that serato just needed that little bit more to take down traktor, which by the way charges for every upgrade and other peripherals that outdate quicker than serato product. If you were a regular working dj, youd have no problem upgrading considering that this is a business expence, not a toy! Props to serato for making this video

          • Mantis

Traktor does NOT charge for “every upgrade”. Haven’t paid a dime for an upgrade since I started using Traktor 2 years ago, and the software is only $70. What the hell are you talking about?

          • Jimmy Burn

            true that

Exactly, you’ve had it for 2 years. Traktor has have numerous software changes in the last 10 years. All of which I have and paid for some. Serato software has always been FREE. The only thing that is paid for NOW is Serato video (not required) and the 4 deck version of Serato DJ (also not required). Traktor also comes out with a new controller every few months that does the same as the last one with minor changes. Traktor users keep spending money while Serato users buy once and stick to it.

          • Mantis

What do you mean “exactly”? DJ Yoni said NI “charges for every upgrade”, which isn’t true. Good for you for having Traktor longer than me. I’m well aware that certain updates weren’t free, and likely I will have to pay for an upgrade in the future. But, his information was false.

I prefer Traktor over Serato, and would rather pay for the occasional upgrade to have the software that works best for me (all Traktor versions are 4 deck, by the way, which I need, so the equivalent Serato DJ version WOULD cost me money). I don’t have any problems with people who prefer Serato. It’s all good stuff.

          • Mantis

Bcrogan, did you not see the part about USB 1 not being optimal for the upgrades? You don’t think that’s a “valid reason”? Why would companies waste resources trying to get discontinued hardware to potentially work on their new, flagship products? USB 1? Come on, man, you got your money’s worth out of that thing, and you can still use it for the software it was built for.

        • Audun Notevarp Sandvold

The 57 is great mixer and not useless. However, it is NOT midi. It uses a proprietary communications protocol to talk to the software.
This would mean serato would need to do extensive work in order to tailor it to SDJ, and when you look at the controls, they are quite limited compared to modern mixers like 62/64/86, or controllers like DDJ-SX. Still, The 57 is great, and will work for many years to come!

          • Trentino

The 57’s FX are NOT in the software. They are in fact hardware FX and can be used even when a computer is not connected.

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

What are you talking about? There is no EFX unit built into the 57.

          • Trentino

False. As I said, I have used the FX on the 57 even without a computer connected.

        • Unskinny Bop

The 57 is not a MIDI device and never will/can be a MIDI device (it uses HIDI), which is probably one of the biggest turn-offs for integrating it into Serato DJ (i.e., massive programing headaches). In addition, the Core Audio driver for TTM 57SL isn’t up to par for for Serato DJ, which would require redeveloping new Core Audio drivers for a product discontinued 2 years ago. Not a feasible solution for a decade old mixer, unfortunately.

    • Gavin

Hey, switch to Traktor all you want, I use it and like it way more than Serato, but your 57 is not worthless. It still works with the software it was designed for and always will. They are still updating Scratch Live for the next two years and will continue to offer support for it forever.

    • dj crossfade

one word mixvibes cross.ok thats 2 lol

      • rubber

mixvibes has created a solid open sound card dvs since 2006 !

    • Kutmaster TeeOh

It will still work. It’s 10 year old technology, what can you expect. You can’t just add a built-in FX and it’s not midi so it can’t be just remapped.

  • Jaws

So whats with the USB port on top of the 900.. i know before it was used as a soundcard… im guessing same thing?

  • Michael Benavidez

Do you think Serato DJ will have HID Support?

    • mak:ortega

thats the way, why not only add hid support to serato dj more easy for everyone 😉

      • DJCodeE

If you read the site carefully, The CDJ2000 Nexus will have Serato DJ HID Support, No other CDJ is currently being advertised to have it also.

        • Andrew Peek

They told me they will add them in due time… which could be a year or so… but don’t hold your breath non pioneer users!!!

    • Gavin

      Of course.

  • Ratish P

Was anyone considering buying the new Traktor X1? I currently have an SL3 with SSL and two CDJ 900’s … I wanted a more portable setup so maybe the Pioneer DDJ-SP1 with an SL3 + any mixer will work? choices choices choices

  • Thejone

Plug and play? Does that mean that it will have full HID capabilities? Without having to waste a USB port having your Serato box plugged in?
Excuse me if I’m too retarded to have worked it out 😉

  • Jay

Maybe now DJTT will have more Serato articles. Speaking of which, whatever happened to the 2nd part of the article on how to import/change your library from Traktor to Serato.

    • Dan White

We’ll reopen that – it turned out to be a bit harder than we hoped!
Look forward to some more Serato content in the future – starting with a review of the two mixers + DVS 🙂

      • Kutmaster TeeOh

I feel ya. Been working on that as well. It’s not as easy as one would think. I’ll be showcasing the Rane 64 this week at A3C in Atlanta. It’s a dope mixer.

      • Kutmaster TeeOh

Side note…. How would DJTT like a set of 2nd generation prototype Dicers?

  • David Schulman

Just when I thought the DJM-900 couldn’t get any better…

    • Ratish

so the SRT will be for Serato only and the regular 900 or 900 Nexus will be Traktor only? If so It’s too bad the mixers don’t support both, most big clubs with opt. for Traktor supported units.

      • Joseph Moore

I think that now that there is a Serato-optimized version of the DJM-900, many clubs may go for it. Before today, that wasn’t an option.
Depends on the area of course, I can say that most DJs in my area (NYC) use either Serato or Rekordbox (USB drives or memory cards), not Traktor. If there’s a mixer designed for Serato, that would be the preferred choice for most NYC DJs. Other areas may not jump on the 900SRT as quickly if it’s not as great a demand.

      • DJCODEE

What country do you live in . I Canada NO club will opt for the traktor model over the Serato Model.

        • Gavin

Nonsense. The big ones that regularly hire touring house/techno/EDM deejays will stick with the 900 Nexus. Serato is almost non-existent in that world.

Smaller to mid-sized clubs that book mostly local or lesser known hip hop/top 40/open format deejays will most likely opt for the SRT as Serato is king in that world (in North America).

      • Pabs

Yes mate, at least in Canada clubs would go for Serato, not that many people use traktor, do have to admit that the user base is indeed growing

  • DJ PC3

This had to happen and I am glad it did. Frankly it was very confusing when Intro entered the pack.

I hope Traktor follows suit and slims down its product offering… Just two options Traktor Scratch & Traktor is all people really need. I understand their desire to turn a profit with more software and upgrades, but with LE, DUO, Pro etc, it get kind of confusing…

    • Ryan Dejaegher

Definitely smart on their part. Traktor has actually had a trimmed down product lineup for a while now: Traktor LE, Traktor Pro 2/Scratch Pro. LE is pretty uncommon as NI lately has bundled Traktor Pro 2 at a minimum with most products.

I wonder if this is the first in a series of product announcements before the BPM show in the UK. I know Serato doesn’t participate in BPM but some companies, particularly NI, tend to make product announcements close to trade shows like that.

    • Joseph Moore

Agreed, i think this is a step in the right direction for Serato.

From what I’ve seen, I’m guessing the sync feature is the same as it is in the current version of Serato DJ, matching BPMs of the tracks regardless of where the pitch slider is.

    • Gavin

Where have you been? Traktor did that almost two years ago. Serato is following NI’s lead. There is actually only ONE Traktor Pro 2. Just like with the new Serato DJ you can unlock scratch for a fee (or if you already own Scratch Live) but it is all one software.

Traktor LE 2 is just Traktor Pro 2 with some features locked since it is a “lite” version.

      • Jimmy Burn

agreed people are funny when they talk about things they know nothing about

  • All Day

Funny they are already planning another update when 1.3 isn’t working well at all

    • Gavin

What normally happens there is they update it to fix it. 1.3 is 1.3, it is what it is. A fix would be a higher number/newer version.

      • All Day

The fixed update would be 1.31 actually. Not 1.5 lmao.

        • Jake Giossi

I’m currently running Serato DJ 1.3 with a Novation Twitch and a Pioneer DDJ-SX with not a single problem. It’s been stable as can be for me. Very pleased. They even fixed a few bugs in it that were causing me issues…and they did it in a week’s time! 1.3 is the most stable release of the software yet.

1.5 and 1.6 are being released because they introduce new functionality, and will of course feature obligatory bug fixes inherent in any upgrade.

          • All Day

Pioneer is perfectly fine, go look at the vestax section on seratos website, its screwed up. They forgot almost all the mappings with the newest update and have yet to fix it.. still.

          • James Brian Thomaston

Yeah, it seems they could care less about Vestax..

          • Kutmaster TeeOh

Vestax hasn’t made anything worth upgrading.

          • James Brian Thomaston

That’s why all the Ean Golden editions are Vestax?
