NAMM 2015: Numark NS7 III, Mixtrack Pro III, and Mixtrack III

Numark is announcing several new products at NAMM including follow ups to their flagship NS7 controller and affordable Mixtrack controllers. The NS7 III is the successor to the “best controller ever built”, the NS7 II. Numark has managed to elegantly add 3 screens to the NS7 III without compromising on the size or features. The Mixtrack 3 and Mixtrack Pro III builds on the Mixtrack Pro 2 and refines it with design elements from Numark NV and NS7 III. For more details, keep reading.

Numark Ns7 III

The NS7 III is Numark’s flagship four deck DJ controller designed to integrate seamlessly with Serato DJ. This controller builds on the full featured NS7 II (check out DJTT’s review) by adding three high resolution color screens (similar to what’s on the Numark NV).

The 2 deck screens can be used for fx control, loop values, and displaying track waveforms. While the centre screen can switch between the track library/browser and waveforms in a stackable view allowing for easy beat matching. Numark called the NS7 II “The Best Controller Ever Built. Period.” and the NS7 III is definitely worthy of that title. Check out the full feature breakdown:

  • Premium Serato DJ controller with three high-resolution color screens, including the ability to display stackable waveforms
  • Stacked parallel waveforms on central screen for simple, direct visual beat matching
  • Screens provide 1:1 real time feedback of Serato DJ, letting you close or move the source laptop and focus on the music
  • Dedicated track library screen with corresponding navigation controls
  • 4 decks of Serato DJ software control; built-in 4-channel audio mixer
  • 2 variable-torque motorized platters with high-resolution MIDI tracking
  • Touch-activated knobs produce groundbreaking control of filters, EQ, and more
  • Authentic vinyl records provide the feel of a professional DJ turntable
  • 16 velocity-sensitive Akai Professional MPC pads with backlit RGB feedback
  • 10 pad modes for hot cues, loops, song slicing, and sample triggering
  • Dedicated 3-way touch-activated filter knob on each channel
  • Dedicated touch-activated control of Serato’s 12 professional iZotope® FX
  • Built-in professional 24-bit USB 2.0 audio interface
  • Zone/booth outputs and balanced XLR outputs for club use
  • Rugged, road-worthy metal construction
  • Serato NoiseMap ready for use with extended DVS setups
  • Plug and play with Serato DJ (included) – no upgrade purchase required

Update*: We have learned the screens can actually be detached from the NS7 III. Numark also plans to sell the screens so that NS7 II users can add screens to their existing controller. Price is expected to be $199

We’re happy to see that Numark has gone with smaller screens, compared to their prototype from last year. The Numark NS7 III will be available later in 2015 for $1499.99 USD.

Numark Mixtrack III

The Mixtrack 3 is an all in one controller designed for Virtual DJ LE 8. The Mixtrack 3 takes some design elements from the NS7 III and NV. The controller has 16 multi function performance pads, like the previous Mixtrack 2, but the pad size is smaller and the position is shifted below the jog wheels.

While there aren’t specific dimensions yet it appears to be thinner and wider than the Mixtrack 2. A notable feature on the Mixtrack 3 is the 100mm pitch faders, which allows for fine pitch adjustments. Check out the feature breakdown:

  • Dedicated Filter knobs for each channel
  • Multi-function Touch Strip for dynamic FX control and Track Search
  • 16 multi-function performance pads
  • All-new high resolution metal jog wheels
  • Multiple FX manipulation
  • Includes Virtual DJ LE 8
  • Includes Prime Loops remix tool kit
  • Dedicated track browsing controls from your library

Numark Mixtrack 3 will be available Q1 2015 for $199.

Numark Mixtrack Pro III

The Mixtrack 3 Pro is an all in one controller designed for Serato DJ Intro. The Mixtrack Pro 3 is similar in appearance to the Mixtrack 3 but the main difference is the Pro has an integrated class compliant audio interface with 1/4″ and 1/8″ headphone connections. This means DJ’s don’t have to worry about having an external soundcard.

There are improvements over the Mixtrack Pro 2 design such as the headphone port placement (the Mixtrack Pro 2 headphone port was on the side) and metal jog wheels. Check out the feature breakdown:

  • Dedicated filter knobs for each channel
  • Includes Serato DJ Intro—upgrade-ready for full Serato DJ
  • Includes Prime Loops remix tool kit
  • Multi-function Touch Strip for dynamic FX control and Track Search
  • 16 multi-function performance pads
  • All-new high resolution metal jog wheels
  • Dual 5-inch hyper-responsive metal platters
  • Multiple FX manipulation
  • Dedicated track browsing controls from your library
  • Integrated class compliant audio interface with ¼’ and 1/8” headphone connections

Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 will be available Q1 2015 for $299.

Can you fix the plethora of bugs in the software numark? And the filter knobs that wear out quickly? I bought an innofader alread, since 2 xfaders went on me in 6 months.

    • D.N.A.

Serato provides the software, and I’m sure they would be happy to fix what is wrong if you head to the Serato forums. Make sure to contact Numark Support if you are having difficulties with your hardware!

  • Niels Junco

Does the mixtrack pro 3 have Xlr outputs !?!?!?!?? If they dont, what outs do they have ??

    • D.N.A.

The MixTrack Pro III has RCA Master output.

  • Karl Detken

Correction: The optional screens for the NS7II owners is expected to be $299 not $199. 🙂

  • vjprasan

I wish they had added a second soundcard, or a usb thumb drive reader, so that transitions between djs can happen smoothly.

    • mastazi

They added a usb port for the thumb drive, it’s on the back of the screen unit.

  • Selector Vince

Well, as i read that :
“Serato NoiseMap ready for use with extended DVS setups”
    And :
“Hardware-wise, the NS7III is literally identical to the NS7II”
Then, i can think the DVS function will soon be working for the NS7 II”

  • Jnr Tirso

BTW, do you really need stacked waveforms if you are a controllerist who is using sync and beatgrids?

    • CUSP

The waveforms already show up on the computer so these screens are an amenity.

  • Jnr Tirso

and yet, only one DJ can use this because there is only one sound card.

    • D.N.A.

That would be a good idea, but the NS7III is a stand alone mixer. DJs can always play a song on another device while swapping USB cables with the other DJ 😉

  • Big Spender

Or you could just put your controller on a stand and slide your laptop under it, DDJ-T1 style. You still have to have a laptop plugged in so what is the point? You can now be accused of screen watching on 3 screens instead of one. I would consider it if it were stand alone.

  • Aaron Hall

God if the ns7 III is the next evolution of the ns7 i’m gonna get that….assuming they have a decent case for it…i skipped the NS7 II, i like my ns7 for the turntable feel with hip hop sets…so didn’t really need 4 decks on it……but the added screens so i don’t really have to look at the laptop would be so awesome to have….thats a reason to buy this……but i bet it will be a 1999.99 type price tag

    • CUSP

They announced it will be $1499 (as per all previous releases of the NS7).

      • Karl Detken

Optional screens will probably only work with NS7II

        • CUSP

Yes, that seems to be the case, however there may be an upwelling from the community for screen supports, and the only thing stopping that right now is a software lockout.

  • s3ltzer

I think it’s amazing that the screens are also add-ons to the NS7II. That’s great value. Pioneer should take notes on how to make customers happy.

    • Karl Detken

@S3ltzer: Having been one of the founding members of the DJ Division of Pioneer and worked there almost 20 years I have learned what makes customers happy. I am trying to adopt those principles here that I am now at http://www.inMusicBrands.com (Numark).

    • Aaron Hall

Are the screens only an addon to the NS7II? or are they for both NS7 and NS7II? I have the NS7 and DDJ-SP1….i really have no need for 4 decks on my serato side. I live in southern cali and they like alot of hip hop and not really so much blending and sampling just pretty much tune to tune….when i DJ in LA its different and i have my traktor setup for EDM style sets. I mean the ns7III looks awesome but if i can get those screens as a “scree bar” like the original fx bar for my ns7 then no need to sell those and buy a whole new case and what not.

  • Code:E

“We’re happy to see that Numark has gone with smaller screens, compared to their prototype from last year. The Numark NS7 III will be available later in 2015 for $1499.99 USD.”

I don’t agree with the DJ tech tools writers here. If I’m to close up the laptop I need a larger library view… I wonder how well attached those screens are. And if they will be broken off easily.

    • Karl Detken

They will be attached securely through the NS7IIs laptop stand attachment which also was the attachment for the FX option 4 years ago. No problems with it falling off back then and no problems falling off now.

  • Thomas Funck Dalgas

After Pioneer came with XDJ-RX as standalone controller, with USB and Rekordbox integration. Everything else seems old and not very inspiring..

    • CAM

Recordbox to me seems “Behind” it’s not as fully fledged as Serato DJ, Traktor, or Virtual DJ in terms of features. And lets not forget Stanton released the ScS.4DJ in 2011 which is remarkably similar to the Pioneer XDJ-RX. Not quite as refined of course and built of mostly plastic but either way you look at it Stanton did it first. The XDJ-RX is nice I like it, but that price-tag for a two channel stand alone controller with a single screen just dosn’t work for me. Not enough bang for my buck.

      • Thomas Funck Dalgas

Not saying Pioneer was first with the idea, but the controller market is needing this standalone function with USB/SD whatever. So it´s to every vendor to make the best out of it.. I would personally love it, if NI Traktor came with a standalone controller.

        • CUSP

It’d be nice if there was an all-in-one that played nice with everything else, but the problem with that is “How?” Sure, we’d love to see this play videos as well, but will it? We’d love to see an all-in-one keep up to date with Serato DJ, Virtual DJ, and Traktor Pro, but the likelihood of that happening is slim.

        • thedjally

A standalone traktor controller would be 1.5-2x what current controllers are ~minimum~. Check out the minimum specs, and figure out the cost of adding a computer that meets these inside the controller box.

    • s3ltzer

Except that Pioneer loves to put out annual revisions of its controllers. This devaluates their products. I’ll wait for the revision of the RX before I jump in (or the updated SZ with screens and USB support)

  • CUSP

Begin the bolt-on epidemic! I really like this solution for two reasons, 1) It’s a quick and easy solution to update the NS7 II, and 2) Removal and replacement of the screens is as simple as turning a few screws.

Hopefully, this multi-screen option will be available to anyone who has a Serato controller (it’s pretty important for video too). Also, hopefully Serato supports this monitor layout for all controllers.

    • JOhn

Hey bro, I don’t think that Ns7II users would be able to add the screens… I think that they are an integral part of the Ns7III

      • DJDanny

The screens will be available as an add on for existing NS7II owners.

        • JOhn

          Holy shit, that’s good news!

          • Massions

            Awesome!!!

        • Aaron Hall

shoot if they add ons for the ns7 mark I i’d buy that addon and not upgrade to this i never use 4 decks with my ns7 i always use it for hip hop sets….but if this screen feature an add on for ns7’s then i’ll buy that and not the whole thing

          • MTLSinCity

It’s an add-on so I suppose first NS7 users can actually just get these screens and not the whole NS7 3 itself. Just like the NSFX.

          • Aaron Hall

I pray they do for real….hate to have to buy a whole new case and this for this one piece of gear when i have the NS7II basically with the ddj-sp1 and NS7…the only difference i don’t have is 4 tracks but i never really need 4 tracks for my serato sets

      • CUSP

According to the DJWORK Article they are:

“”Hardware-wise, the NS7III is literally identical to the NS7II which Mark absolutely loved, but with the screen unit on the back. When this comes out, it replaces the NS7II. “But what about those of us that just bought the old one?” I hear you ask? Well, Numark are still thinking about you! They’ll be selling the screen unit as an add on that screws into the back of the NS7, for around $200-$300. It’ll plug into the USB port, and daisy chain out to the laptop.” -Mark Settle
