Native Instruments has just announced in an “unofficial” off the record Q&A on the NI forums that Traktor will add HID support in an upcoming update for the Pioneer CDJ-900NXS and the latest media player, the XDJ-1000 (read the full review). Along with more HID support, Native Instruments also discusses the long awaited Traktor and Maschine integration, and why metadata sync is no longer in Traktor DJ/Traktor Pro 2. Keep reading for more details.
For anyone that’s been on the Native Instruments forum for a while, they may remember that Native Instruments use to post “Traktor On The Record” Sessions every 2-3 months. This was an opportunity for Native Instruments to address DJs questions ranging from technical issues, software updates, and feature requests. It was a great way to get a sense of what the company was focusing on, unfortunately the last “Traktor On The Record” Session was posted in April 2012. But the silence has been broken in an unofficial Q&A between a forum moderator and Native Instruments. Here are some of the highlights:
- HID support for Pioneer CDJ-900NXS and XDJ-1000 coming in next release
- Why Metadata Sync between Traktor DJ/Traktor Pro 2 stopped working and alternative solutions
- Maschine/Traktor integration is on the horizon
- Kontrol S8 remapping could be a possibility
Advanced HID support for the Pioneer CDJ-900NXS and XDJ-1000 is exciting news for Traktor/CDJ users that don’t want to empty their wallets for a pair of CDJ-2000/2000NXS to get HID support (learn more about using CDJs in HID mode with Traktor). The XDJ-1000 had HID support for Serato DJ upon release with no word on support for Traktor so there was fear that it wouldn’t happen. Contrary to popular belief it sounds like adding HID support isn’t as easy as people think:
“This happens on a case-by-case basis. Unfortunately, manufacturers have lots of freedom with how they wish to implement HID control and this prevents us from “just adding HID support” to the software – HID and MIDI are different communication protocols and have different messaging formats, even though they might not appear to be on the surface. Therefore, for now, all HID support has to be hard-coded into TRAKTOR based on the manufacturer’s published specifications rather than being “mapped” in the way one assigns a MIDI controller to TRAKTOR.”
Really it sounds like Native Instruments has to evaluate whether it’s worth their time to invest in HID support for each model that’s released. So for DJs that want to see more HID support for future models, make your voice heard to show that there’s demand and it’s worth their time!
Maschine and Traktor integration is something that’s only ever been discussed in vague details over the years, but sounds like it may finally see the light of day:
“An integrated solution for using MASCHINE and TRAKTOR together is under development but will still be several months before it is ready.”
DJs can already run the two software side by side and Maschine makes it pretty easy to drag and drop loops/samples into Traktor’s remix decks or midi sync the two programs. The challenge is managing and controlling both programs at the same time. What would make controlling both programs more seamless? What would make this a must have integration? It’s a big undertaking but we’re excited to see what comes from this connection!

What Would You Like See With Traktor+Maschine?
Let us know in the comments below!
Too little, too late I’m afraid.
I’ve been a hardcore Traktor fanatic since the days of “Traktor DJ Studio 3” but ever since the S4 it seems they have completely neglected almost all of their 3rd
party support.
I used to see Traktor as an open extensible platform that was invaluable to keep for use with any hardware combination.
Now their software has become more propriety with exclusive features & stronger focus on their own 2nd-rate equipment.
NI is transitioning from making good software to a “neat” hardware manufacturer. However they aren’t in a good position to support the hardware they make, as apparent by the fact I cannot buy new buttons, faders or knobs for my S4.
Between the major decline in software quality and their blurry transition to a mid-grade hardware company, they lost me. I took a close look at what Pioneer has going for them and at this point it’s too late for NI to win me back.
since Traktor goes 64bit in next Version, as cdj/hid user on Windows i’ll have a Problem: all pioneer asio Drivers are 32bit only so no use for it on a 64bit app 🙁
btw: any ideas if the xdj-rx will Support Traktor hid? Firmware 1.4 says “Support for Traktor pro 2”. since midi mappings for Traktor are working on Versions below 1.4 one can assume that this announcement could mean hid with this device? would be so great.
as i hybrid user (serato and Traktor) i can say that the Traktor hid mapping on cdjs was always best since you can nearly completely remap the cdjs for your own needs, the other Softwares have hardcoded mappings.
yeh the 64 bit thing is a shame with Pio’s mixers. I run Mixvibes Cross and that’s had a 64 bit version for a while now, but can’t use it with my DJM 850 just as it’s only a 32bit driver for that mixer. I don’t know if it;s poss for Pio to code/run 64 bit drivers on there and their DJM 900nexus mixers, but would be great if it’s a poss. Shame really, but tbh Cross runs great on it in 32 bit (including video) so I don’t mind too much
i think it’s necessary to request this in the pioneer dj Forums to get their Attention 🙂
good idea 🙂 tbh not been on there for a while, but maybe it’s worth mentioning, especially if NI are also going to 64 bit next with Traktor
Hey,
in this part of the forum, there is not written by Freshluke or another “NI official”, that there will be HID-Support coming up for the 900nexus or xdj-1000. It´s only written, what you copied and pastet here as a quote. So where does this special information come from?
Best regards
Great to hear. Now I just want the Traktor and iTunes libraries to be integrated. Having to replace updated tracklists from iTunes in the Traktor library is a pain in the ass. Also, some type of syncing system to export Traktor playlists to a USB would be nice.
Yes, the type that would export to Recordbox format would be especially nice. I doubt that (and unfortunately iTunes sync) will happen since it’s only in DJs’ best interests and neither company’s. Still, all of this is really good news for NI users.
Keep it simple. REKORDBOX

TO VERY HONEST – THIS IS THE LAST STAND FOR ME WITH TRAKTOR AND NATIVE INSTRUMENTS. IT IS PURE BULLSH!T! THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR SO LONG NOW AND STILL NO SMART PLAYLIST, NO COLOUR CRATES AND SONGS. THE BROWSER IS WEAK AT BEST.NO COPYING PLAYLIST! IT HAS TAKEN THEM THIS LONG TO COME UP WITH GOOD WAY TO RUN MASCHINE AND TRAKTOR TOGETHER! OH WAIT THAT IS STILL SEVERAL MONTHS AWAY! REALLY NOW! BUT THEY CAN SPEND ALL THEIR TIME MAKING THE S8 WITH THE SAME CRAPPY SOFTWARE! WOW, THIS IS JUST INSANE TO ME!
WHEN SERATO FOR CLUB DROPS, I THINK THIS IS IT FOR ME WITH TRAKTOR…THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT THE END USER AT ALL, THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT PUSHING THE INDUSTRY INTO USING SYNC! IF THEY DID THEY WOULD PUT ALL THEIR ENERGY INTO MAKING THE BEST DVS SOFTWARE IN THE WORLD…AND RIGHT NOW THEY ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE. SORRY GUYS FOR THE RANT…. PLEASE LET ME KNOW, IF YOU FEEL THAT TRAKTOR CARES ABOUT THE END USERS IN YOUR OPINION. THANKS
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out! 😉
How about the door hitting u in the head! You better chill! Really talk. 😉
I don’t think any rational people will listen to you if you start a shouting match. I know I won’t.

To be honest, I hope you move over to Serato and take your list of demands with you. Your needs are categorized at the very bottom of a long list, below actual functionality and immediate gratification.
to be honest!! You amaze me with your statement above….those are not bottom of the list items for a lot a people and the fact you posted that shows me…what an idiot you are…. Thanks you for wasting your time here with a useless post.. Bravo.
Don’t reply and waste anyone else’s time please and thanks

Hmmm… all this talk of the up and coming, but no mention of the 2.7.4 beta that’s out right now that’s sporting a 64bit kernel. Multi core support is still flaky but at least it gives you access to an extra GB of RAM.
Where can you download the beta?
Hey Mark, it’s on the NI site in the forum section under 2.7.4 open beta.
The Traktor – Maschine integration sounds like a paid update. Still interested how that will play out.
Lol… it’s not Serato.
If you still think the next version of Traktor won’t have IAP, you’re being naive.
Fancy seeing you here… lol. I figure that Machine integration to Traktor may follow Kompletes’ example. My version of K9U works perfectly with Komplete Control, which was free. The one thing that most of us said we wanted to NI when Mark opened dialog was a non-3rd party solution for integration and MIDI clock. They’ve already started on the Win64bit kernel. If NI feels that they need to make more money by gouging the consumer for upgrade after upgrade… I’ve had my eye on Cross for while.
Then thing is, You’re not going to get away from it. Cross will probably follow suit eventually, and if not with TP3, then NI will, down the line. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan by any means, but I also work in the games industry, and they’ve been heading in this direction for a few years now, quite successfully.
Lol… Shameless M$ business model seems to be infecting other companies.
It’s not Microsoft. In fact, they’ve been fairly slow to the race. Blame Apple (iOS App Store), Activision, EA and Ubisoft.
In App Purchases have been around for a while in games… long tIme GW and GW2 player, but M$ has the best gouge I’ve seen by leasing yearly licenses for apps like Office 365.
you mean you actually PAY for M$haft boneware???
Not at all… Net Eng with corporate serials.
Sorry for the ignorance, but what is IAP?
In-app-purchase. Serato and VDJ8 both use the model where features are either unlocked when you pay, or as plugins downloaded when you pay.
Dammit now i have to save up for a pair of xdj-1000’s…..
breaking news! NI might deliver stuff in some release in the future!
keep flogging that dying horse DJ-Traktor-Tools
Yep… they should learn from Serato. Instead of improving their software and adding features they should call it “Expansion Packs” and charge the user everytime they add features that have been in DJ software since years.
It’s sounds like my wish is finally being answered. I’m hoping Maschine + Traktor is much more than just a better MIDI clock solution.
traktor and machine integration, finaly
