Today we’re launching a brand new set of Mad Zach Sound Packs, Volume 5 of his popular finger drumming series. This set of 15 packs is more refined and feature-filled than ever before, including play-along video lessons, and Ableton, Maschine, and Kontakt compatibility. Note: In order to take advantage of the cool new Ableton features Zach has added, these packs require Ableton Live 9.3 or later. The video lessons require 9.5.
Volume 5’s New Features
Here’s some of the new features in Mad Zach’s fifth sound pack volume:
Learn To Finger Drum: Built-In Video Lessons
In the new volume, every single pack’s Ableton project has a built-in video lesson, in the form of an overhead shot of Mad Zach’s hands playing the pack. It plays directly in Ableton, and can be looped and sped up / slowed down in time with the master tempo. This makes learning finger drumming way easier, a concept derived from similar features in professional guitar-learning packages.
If the MIDI controller being used with the pack has LEDs, the MIDI clips will even light up your controller – giving you a Simon-like effect (play notes as they light up).
No Other Paid Software Needed
“What software do I need to buy to play Mad Zach’s packs?”
The new answer is: NONE! Download the Ableton Live Trial and you’ll be able to play the soundpacks till your fingers hurt – even after the demo period ends. That’s right, no more “your 10 minute trial has ended, and the software is shutting down”. Zach designed all the packs using Ableton, so as a cool bonus, you’ll get access to the deepest soundpack features by using Ableton.
The QWERTY Drummer: Play With Your Computer Keys
At popular request, Mad Zach has found a way to play these packs even without a MIDI controller – and built a Mac-only sound pack player (“The QWERTY Drummer”) that allows you to use your computer keyboard to play the packs. This player can be used inside of any DAW. We recommend using it within any version of Ableton – including the trial!
As with the volumes in the past, Zach has put hundreds of hours into these sound packs – building up the sound design and playability of each pack through studio sessions and live gigs around the world.
If you’re looking for a powerful experience in finger drumming – whether you’re just getting started or a seasoned pad-smasher – Mad Zach’s new volume is a solid win.

Can you load these sounds into FL studio?
btw: have found the “Clementine Player” for mac, with many features and integrates, and i like it. APE, FLAC and others
I am definitely happy with these packs. Majority of the packs are more of a darker, grittier, bass genre, personally I like that, because there hasn’t been much of it in the sound pack market.
I didn’t mind paying the $50 for vol. 5 especially because it came with the video tutorials showing how the pack was originally played, gave the general map of sounds, and how they can work in combination. I was also pleasantly surprised to receive a $10 refund a couple days after I purchased it. I assumed it was because I bought volumes 1 – 4 a couple of months ago, therefore giving me the bundle price.
Overall, incredible product, whether it’s for live performance, or laying down foundations for a new track, top-quality sound engineering.
BOOM CHAKALACA!!!
Hmm.. I seem to need Ableton 9.6.1?
all the packs are backwards compatible to version 9.2.3, you just need to open the project labeled “unwarped kit” 🙂 if you have 9.6 then you can take advantage of the new warping in simpler but otherwise everything works perfectly in the older version as well.
Bought pack 5 by accident… What a let down to be honest… It’s all ambient sounds… All other packs are more playable and more interesting.
Rubbish.
I finally got some time to start working through them. When i saw this comment I was regretting the purchase. Not all ambient sounds. I learned to drum with the Mad Zach tutorials so these packs fit very nicely into how my hands move. Well worth the money.
Not cool what you did with pricing of sound packs…
Agreed. Great packs and all that… but $120 for all 5 packs.. lol nah
even $50 USD ( that’s $65 where I live ) for sound pack 5 is nuts compared to the $30 they used to be..
I don’t have a horse in this race aside from digging the other Mad Zach packs, but it’s worth considering the video lessons, keyboard drumming .vst, and MIDI-mapped project files that haven’t been part of the $30 packs, I think a bump in price is reasonable. All of those things take time and effort too, and will be immensely helpful to folks just getting started. 🙂
If you’re a fan of the other packs, stay away from this one… It’s actually SO bad….As I said, 90% of them require 2 controllers to sound even half decent, and literally 100% of the packs sound like ambient space sounds… It’s not even close to the other packs in terms of style, playability , fun, and versatility.
Hey Adam, thanks for the feedback. And sorry to hear you are frustrated. For the record, there are 3 (out of 15) packs which feature 32 sounds, not “90%” 🙂 With a little shifting around, anyone with a little Ableton or Maschine knowledge can make their own 16 pad version of the 32 pad packs. If you take the time to go through the packs you’ll find a diverse range of sounds, yes there are some ambient textures, but also loads of awesome bass noises, fx, chords, drums, risers, etc. (in fact, there’s more bass sounds than any other kind 🙂 Try Prince of Darkness, the hunter, robovox, etc. I’m not sure what your barometer for “style, playability, fun, and versatility” is, but personally I have to disagree with you. These packs are my favorite yet! I’ve gigged across the world with them and had loads of fun and a great response. And regarding the pricing, $50 is a bit more than the old packs, but I’ve put a lot of work (over 2 years!) into making these even more valuable than previous volumes. Not only did I put way more time and effort into the sound design and music, there’s video lessons in each pack (15 in total) allowing anyone to learn how to play and slow down the video to follow along, a QWERTY application which I built from scratch that allows you to finger drum without a controller, a sorted one-shots folder, ported across multiple formats. If you have any further questions or need any help just hit me up 🙂 Have a nice day!
I’ll give them another shot , I enjoyed prince of darkness, but honestly didn’t really just “get into” many other ones like I did with your other packs, I still remember packs like satin charly, silk trade, hundredair, and many others that literally suck you in , it seems liked like no matter which pad you hit in combo, you’d get something awesome as a result, you seem to have moved away from you classic layout of leads ontop, and bass 2nd row with the first buttons on both rows working well with eachother, and the second buttons and so on , now i see you have a lot of FX and small one shots with more like 1 maybe 2 leads that require to be held down almost the whole time work with the flow I go with anyways, your last packs were more “uppity” , like anyone could jam to them , and people did… like all the time in my room while i played, but the newer one is “dark” , not that I don’t like a dark style, but more so that I don’t feel like most of them are worth presenting to friends like the other packs , as for the bass , maybe it was just the few packs I dabbled in, but it seems like majority of them were more subs rather than the sick ass ones you had in the other packs that were more electronic / dubstep ( to each their own I know ). What I mean by that is I feel like the old packs bass stood out more than what seems like the sine subs in this pack.
No hate , much love… Or I wouldn’t have bought ALL of your soundpacks so far , but as I said, a LITTLE let down so far 🙁 , and also as I said, i shall take another crack at the pack!

Welcome back Zach. I hope these packs and more content keep making its way onto the site.
I agree with zach, that the price bump is reasonable. Just look as sample packs you buy through the likes of splice and beatport, they obviously have a lower price than these but without anywhere near the cohesiveness of these. Loopmasters can give you 100 samples in a new pack every week but thats the amount of thought you get towards the samples… a week. I found them to be hugely versatile and the drumming tutorials should be taken with a pinch of salt, like zach shows in the video its more about using them to learn specific techniques and then apply what he has replied to you with about coming up with your own rack style with the sounds you want.
I think the majority of people should give no to no regard for your comment because in the right hands these packs are priceless, and hugely versatile for many genres. All it takes is a little effort and knowledge of production techniques and you can edit them to be perfect for your style. No producer sits and makes smash hit tracks all day without taking time out from the fun to do some serious editing and processing (whilst boring, necessary). we should be thanking zach for giving us a massive head start on that process which i would happily pay $50 for.
Ha, I finally switched to Ableton (Reason before)since the last pack and can finally join in the fun on this. Started doing music monday with my little one as well, this might be a good idea for today…
Best start to a Monday morning ever! I thought Mad Zach was out of the soundpack creation game. This is beautiful. Purchasing now.
