+1 on Ableton Live, though i dont think it really matters what program you use - its how you use it All the daw's are really equally capable of doing this.
Reaper!!!
Reaper, and Ableton Live are the core of my production suite. Around that I use Celemony Melodyne and Propellerhead's Recycle.
My major VSTi's (the ones I use on a regular basis) are: Z3ta+, Arturia Moog Modular V, Arturia Jupiter 8V, Rob Papen Predator, and Nucleus Soundlab Viral Outbreak.
My major live synths are: Access Virus, Roland Juno-106, Moog Tribute, and a Nord Lead.
btw, reaper is AMAZING for low profile live performance (muuuch lower profile than Ableton), I've been thinking of moving all the way over for my live production for the band. The new Portion Control album was written entirely within reaper, and it's Bloody amazing!

none at all
hehe, now I use the Juno-106 for my top end Peter Hook style bass and my moog for sub-bass. (or sometimes I layer them together to make peoples chest cavities explode. )

that's such a lovely feeling. I can't wait to get my lappy back so I can start producing again.
If one thing is going to get me into producing again (toyed around with FL some years ago - wasn't that content with my results) this will be NI's MASCHINE. This thing looks like so much fun. I hope NI comes up with ways to integrate it in a digital DJ setup.
