Denon DJ has released a new firmware update for their X1800 PRIME and X1850 PRIME mixers, offering a number of fixes and improvements and one major new feature that just made livestreaming easier: Broadcast mode.
Broadcast mode allows the main output mix to stream over USB audio channels 1 & 2, which is a requirement for many stream platforms – like the popular software OBS, for example.
The update’s bug fixes also include solving issues where Sweep FX didn’t disengage properly when control was centered, where switching EQ type would create an audio pop, issues with combination effect usages, and more. They’ve also renamed ‘Trans’ BPM FX to ‘Auto Gate’, although its function remains the same.
Will others follow?
For artists who’ve been livestreaming for years, or just picked it up during the pandemic, Broadcast mode is a godsend that should make the process much easier. This is a huge move from Denon DJ that we’re hoping more gear will follow suit on. It’s also available on a few Pioneer DJ mixers, including the DJM-900NXS2, DJM-750, DJM-450 and DJM-250.
As we’re this deep into COVID quarantining – almost a year later, for many of us – and so much of the music world has moved online, it’s an incredibly smart decision to appeal to DJs and producers who are livestreaming.
