EDM’s resurgence has fueled ticket sales for name brand festivals like Ultra and EDC, but there is still a thirst for a more interactive experience beyond the standard music and light show. Inspired by rave culture and the DIY ethos of Burning Man, a number of “Immersion Festivals” popping up around the world that are embracing a sense of community an participation. Electronic music festivals come in all shapes and styles. The biggest (EDC, Ultra Music Festival) focus on size and spectacle; some are there to celebrate a specific musical heritage (Detroit’s Movement); and others operate as industry gatherings expanded to encompass almost unlimited party options (Amsterdam Dance Event).
