We taught you how to get your foot into the clubs and rock them but there’s still a good chance most DJs will spend the majority of their time in a home, bedroom or studio. It’s expected that most of you have invested a lot of your hard-earned cash in the latest and greatest DJ gear, so you probably don’t have much left to spend on a fancy DJ booth. Fortunately, we have you covered. Today I am going to walk you through a fantastic design for a home DJ booth that rivals most clubs but is surprisingly affordable – all using readily available IKEA parts. It can cost anywhere from $125-$250 for a fully souped-up model.
The DJTechTools community not only excels at creating controllers but is also very creative when it comes to furniture. There’s a lengthy thread in the forums about how to build a cheap and cool-looking DJ desk even if you’re not a carpenter.
The IKEA DJ Booth Overview
The desk consists of either one or two EXPEDIT bookcases ($ 69.99) depending on how deep you want it to be (if you only use one you can’t use turntables in battle position). This is a famous solution amongst DJs because you can store a lot of vinyls in its spaces. These alone only have a height of 31 inches so it’s recommended that you should mount 4 straight CAPITA legs ($10-14 / 4 pack) below them. In case you choose to use two EXPEDIT bookcases you should screw them together for stability.
The right height of the desk is one consideration often overlooked. It is very important though that your body is erect and the shoulders back, in line with your spine. Hopefully, you will spend a lot of time behind that desk. Therefore if you need to bend down to use the equipment you may end up like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. If the desk is too high on the other side you may suffer from shoulder and neck pain. The following picture illustrates the right height where your fore- and upper arm are almost in a right angle.
The CAPITA legs are available in three different heights ranging from 4 to 8 inches. Choose accordingly to your height! You can also use three LILLÅNGEN leg frames ($25.00) which should yield better stability.
Another way to raise the height is to mount some straight or angular CAPITA legs ($15.99 / 2 pack) between a bookcase and VIKA AMON tabletop ($19.99) on top of the desk.
A nice addition is to mount a BJÄRNUM-hook ($4.99) on the side of the table which can hold your headphones. BJÄRNUM is also available as a foldable version but only comes in packs of three ($9.99).
DJs today (especially the controllerist-type ones) tend to have a load of other stuff lying around next to turntables and mixer. Having another level on the desk with room for the laptop or CD players is ideal. Therefore I installed a LACK wall-shelf ($19.99) on top of the desk. You can use straight or angular CAPITA-legs again which we already used for the base of the desk.
THE SPEAKERS
You want the speakers to be at the same height as your ears to get the best possible sound. They should be aligned towards your ears. You can add another level with CAPITA legs and small LACK shelves ($6.99) to the desk. Active monitors are in most cases too heavy for this approach. In that case you are better off with height-adjustable GODMORGON legs ($8-10) for the LACK shelves attached to the desk.
ADDING SOME FANCY LIGHTS
Although we’re used to operate in the darkness you probably want some additional lighting either for the looks or to see a little better. IKEA has some multi-color LED strips for that purpose. You can either use the 4 piece set DIODER($39.99) or a flexible strip RGB LED light like this one on Amazon (~$30).
Total costs
Here is a rough calculation of what it would cost to build the full model with double depth.
2 x EXPEDIT bookcases = $139.98
2 x straight CAPITA legs 6″ = $24.00
1 x angular CAPITA legs = $15.99
1 x LACK wall-shelf 43″ = $19.99
2 x LACK wall-shelf 12″ = $13.98
2 x GODMORGON leg = $20.00
TOTAL $233.94
While that might seem more expensive than you were hoping for, $200 for something that is perfectly designed for djing is really amazing. By slimming the desk down and removing the monitor stands you can get in the $150 range.
Some finished desks
Here are a few other tables that might inspire you to build your own DJ table:
This desk has a special place in my heart. It was solely made from recycled components. The monitor stands are skateboards.

A little late to the game…or, to be more specific, this forum…but a big ^5 to Hedgehog, as well as anyone else who’s submitted photos, parts lists, etc. Currently, I only have a single computer desk, which serves multiple purposes, thus I can’t have everything set up at the same time. Between gaming, video editing, mixing, and normal “everyday” stuff, as large as my desk is (49.25″W x 26.75″D), it can’t hold the laptop, keyboard, mouse, Traktor S5, Traktor F1, mini Vornado fan, Klipsch ProMedia speakers, & KRK Rokit 5 monitors all at the same time. Notice I didn’t even list a monitor (ie. screen), as my wife is currently using my 23″ 16:9 monitor…but that’s ok, as I’ll soon have a 35″ 21:9 monitor. Now, once we finish reorganising the second bedroom, and move our desks back there, I have some excellent ideas on how to create a “DJ workstation”. Thank you.
Hello there I am planning to build my own DJ Table I want this table that is above the first one after it says some fiinshed desks. so what would I need exactly to look like this ? Thanks

My blog post on my experience building an IKEA DJ Booth

Hi. Question about drilling through the ikea parts and screwing into the Lack shelves. As they are particle board with a veneer it’s pretty flimsy and usually hollow inside. How did you do this so you didn’t crack the veneer or punch through and also make sure it was stable and sturdy to attach? Got all the parts just game planning this so I don’t mess up and have to go buy more. Great job on your blog really helpful, much more so than here, on some of the actual steps needed to assemble those parts. Thanks!
Hey..they aren’t hollow the particle board is decently solid I just used a butterfly bit and a really good Dewalt drill. If you drill straight it won’t crack or split
Thanks! About how much does your table hang over the Kallax? If I evenly split it its’ about 4.25 inches on each side which seems like a lot when measured.
Also how did you remove the base of the capita? Ive been trying but it feels like doing it will break it and then it looses the bottom metal piece. Thanks again

…wow these are all really awesome set-ups! But the article title is wrong. These are not DJ Booths. DJ Booths exist in clubs, not in a house. Carry On.
Walmart and IKEA
Did you build one?
heres my settup. just got the z2 and looking to get new turntables by end of the end. got lucky with finding a good solid desk with hole mounts and the second tier shelf. just needed the storage underneath. the desk and shelf can be raised or lowered. planning on adding 8 channel board and bigger speakers and bigger storage cubbies to put my djtt backback and cases underneath as well or to the side. found the storage and desk and speaker stands used online for cheap everything under 200$
Here is mine with Ikea shelves and the capita feet. Means I can fit the amp on the floor under the vinyl. Behind me are one 5×5 unit and two 4×2 units. I’d have more but I’ve run out of space to put them !! 🙂

how much weight holds capita brackets
Good question. I have six 2×4’s filled with records. One 2×4 is stacked on top of another 2×4 with only 4 capita legs and have not had any issues but I think it’s best to use no less than 6 to 8 or more legs on any unit just to be safe. I have two 2x4s that I use for my turntables, CDJs & mixer both have 6 legs each. But to answer your question there may be some technical info on ikea’s website.

Thanks for the inspiration. Here is my own “how to” video based on the info I found on your page. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rv0j-963uo
What are your monitors? I have a pair of 5″-ers and am wanting to pull the trigger on your build, but am concerned about using Capita legs for an important part of the set up.
Yamaha HS50M. It’s still really sturdy. You could add a washer to the top and bottom for reinforcement. the whole desk is still really tight and sturdy.
Saw this thread and purchased the Ikea shelves to go underneath my existing table and the Capita legs to make shelves on top. Came out real nice.
Some of these products are no longer for sale, does anyone have an updated list of current ikea products that will work?
CAPITA Bracket (You want the bracket, not the legs if you want to do anything angular with the bars like what you see people do)
LACK Wall shelf (X2 for your monitors, whatever they may be)
GODMORGON Leg (X2 for your monitor stands. I went with these as they look like they could hold more weight.)
LACK Wall shelf (I went for the smaller version as I just have my laptop, my headphone case, & small stash bag for bits & bobs (Headphone adapters & such), and the added kallax unit offers more tabletop space)
BJÄRNUM Hook (Headphones! Can swap this out with almost any hook you think might work. I like the actual look of this thing. Seems super solid & can handle any cans you put on it.)
KALLAX Shelving unit (X2 if you want it nice & wide.)
LILLÅNGEN Leg frame (X3 if you want it to be ncie & stable and went with the two Kallax units)
This is a blend of the Techtools shopping list updated using the DJ Puzzle video.
Be aware that this is just going to be my PERSONAL list. You might swap out something like an ikea top with some legs on top of the bookshelf separating the top & shelves.
Wow, love the work you put in to create the booth. It looks great. Thanks for posting the pics as well. http://www.unlockpwd.com
This is a great post. Here is my setup

I NEED A PROMOTER GUYS TO HAVE THOSE SETUP IM IN ZIMBABWE
[…] parts can be cheaply used to make a cool home DJ booth. This article was the cool find of the week for me. I’ve been using IKEA furniture in my home studio since […]

This is my own made foldable dj booth
Absolutely BRILLIANT!!
?? ?????????)
$90 all together
Getting pine wood from Bunnings
A few band saws and sand paper
Done 🙂
$90AUD Pine wood from Bunnings
That’s all 🙂
this is the one that i have at home, like many of you, 2 expedit shelves, a foldable hook, led lights, a pair of recycled aluminum legs and a few more stuff, simple easy and affordable.
What a great article! Seeing everyone’s posts are really inspiring me to set-up my new soon to be studio.
So can all you vinyl-hoarders here attest to the Expedit shelves being solid enough for all your records? I still have my doubts with IKEA mystery wood…
You need six legs not four! I have recently made this setup with four legs and it’s not strong enough to take the weight of my records – it sags in the middle. I’ve ordered two more legs so I can fix it before it collapses completely.
Sorry about the double post. Also wondering if the Lack shelf will start to bend with a monitor on each end if it’s only supported in the middle.
Does anyone know if the angled capita legs will fit under/behind Technics 1210s on a Kallax shelf?
They won’t.
Mines made from bits and bobs from ikea,, came out nice
Also did a ikea set up, but used ikea worktop – came out really nice
This looks fantastic! Are those still Capita legs used for the controller stand? How did you get it so the stand is at an angle?
Hi Alex
Very simple my friend
Cut wedges of timber 2″ by 2″ to the angle you want and fix to the controller shelve, then fix to the legs ????
Thanks for the comment ????
Hi mate, looks great.. Did you just screw the Capita legs directly into the monitors there?
I did Flunkin… I know it’s not the correct way of doing things ?
Only used 2 of the 4 holes on the legs
Hello Slaneydore, I would to do the same setup in my house in New York. I was wondering can tell me exactly what to do so I can achieve something as amazing as this.
It’s a shame your in New York as I’m about to rip it all out and turn the room into bathroom…
I’ll see if I can upload a few photos on here from my iPad for ya
Here’s a few photos I took while I was making it..
It’s not detailed but I’m sure your get the drift ?
Thank You for this info. This has saved me years of wondering. This has to be the best setup I’ve ever seen before. It’s so clean !!
Thanks chris ?
I’m not one for cables so this is how this design came about ?
hey bro this is awesome, is there no way we could get a full listing of the parts you used to make this ? best one yet 🙂
It’s a shame you live in New York as I’m about to rip it all out and turn the room in to a his and hers bathroom
LoL, Seriously ????
At least it’s an amazing upgrade !!! Beautiful !!
I’ve just finished my home build dj booth, I have to finish my desk
its all made by my self 🙂
what do you thik of the result?

I want to add straight capita legs to the top on the shelf then put a table top on top of that so that way I can turn my turntables battle style. Problem is, the straight capita legs don’t have mounting screws on both sides. Am I mistaken or am I just looking at the wrong legs?
Hey, did you ever sort this out? I’m considering doing the same and thinking the weight of the turntables/mixer would keep it in place even if it’s not screwed to the shelf.
Thank you for your inspirations! I used my old snowboard as stand for my notebook and speakers 🙂
Anyone know where to get 21cm Capita Legs in the UK? Ikea doesn’t seem to sell them in that size anymore. Any help would be greatful.
Inspired me to do a DJ stand “lite” for my smaller bedroom – the only custom part was the table top that I needed to paint/cover as I wanted a smaller sized unit.
http://webmelt.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/dj-stand-desk-vinyl-storage-unit.html
I had trouble fitting the Captive angled legs – the bolt that goes through the Expedit shelf is a little bit too short, how did you fasten it ? I had to make the bolt come through the top part (the extra shelf) but then I have the bolts extending too long through that..
Just like to add my rather compact table to the list. All Ikea. Not the cheapest selection of parts, but it works well and was Ikea easy to put together. Here’s a list (prices in CAN):
– 1 Linnmon table top (39 3/8 x 23 5/8) $9.00
– 2 Ullrik table leg with storage $50.00 each
– 2 Capita leg (4 legs per pack) $24.99 each
Total: $159.00 – tax
The wall mount laptop stand was a custom piece made from a piece of 3/4 inch plywood (29 1/2 x 12 inch) painted with (tinted Ikea) white melamine, 2 Ekby Riset brackets (for sloping wall. Ikea. $6.50 each), and a 4 foot length of 1/2 inch aluminum angle I bought at a hardware store (Rona). Had to buy 4 feet. Was like $35- $40. Cut it to fit, filed the sharp edges, and sprayed it Tremclad white. The laptop could not fit any better. 🙂
Cheers!

Don’t know what happened to my photo… Will try again.
Hmmm… last try. Maybe the file size was too big.
Built this from all IKEA items.
Well it has been 2 years since my last entry here, but now I have moved and have more room for a nice booth! So since I still wanted the expedite I searched the internets for nice examples, many found here! Therefore I adding to this old, but absolute best “IKEA DJ BOOTH” thread there is
I only used one EXPEDIT and two ALEX desk drawers for one side, and used plain MDF so made it one piece. From old pallets i made the top, to give it a nice vintage look.
On the other side I made front panels with room for speakers and a place to hang my TV. Just so happened to be, my game consoles fit right in as well! So while one person is spinning tunes, the others can relax on the couch and play videogames!
I call it heaven.
After selling my beloved Technics 1210’s some years ago and switching to CDJ’s I really missed that tactile feel of the vinyl and pretty soon I new I had made a mistake in letting them go! So I have once again purchased another set to run with my Traktor Scratch Pro 2, this left me with a dilemma of needing a new DJ desk/booth. Luckily for me I stumbled on this article on using ikea furniture as a cheaper alternative, so I have taken the ideas seen here and come up with this!
Expedit unit £55
Capita legs 21cm 2 packs £22
Table top (donated from old unit)
Stolmen shoe rack £14
Stolen suspension fittings £4
Adils table leg x2 £5 £2.50 each
Can’t seem to get pictures to upload to post?
Try again with the pics!
This article helped me in constructing my own dj table. Thank you for inspiration.
It is still not completely finished, but I think I can present current result.
Ikea parts:
Expedit bookcases 601.352.99
Linnmon table top 002.513.43
Ekby Jarpen shelf 000.943.48
Capita legs bracket, stainless steel 400.511.96
Others:
leroymerlin table legs 71mm x2
Two pieces of wood ( between leg and table )
LED Tape = 75mm
I’m building one for my bf for xmas. I just need to know how to attach the legs on the side that would normally rest on the floor.
you can make it in a variety of ways what exactly are you referencing?
My Booth.
So I’m not sure I’m posting in the right place, but if it is then this is what I’ve come up with. I live in a small 3 bedroom apartment and I’ve been lucky enough to set aside one of the rooms as “Dj Studio/Man Cave”. Previously, i had just set my equipment up a couple of stacked shelves with my monitors and laptop sitting on a very unstable makeshift shelf of plywood and cinder blocks so I felt it was time to give my setup the treatment it deserved.
Now the biggest problem that I’ve noticed people have as I’ve read through this forum is the stability and strength of the build as well as parts and hardware not fitting right. I’ve found the solution to both of the issues and it cost me little more than the base price mentioned for these other Ikea based setups (I say Ikea based because I cheated and used other materials).
So for the build we’ll do first things first: Materials
For the base, most of you guys used the side by side or double stacked Ikea shelves. I did basically the same, however, i used some Mervyn’s clothing display boxes. I got these dirt cheap when Mervyn’s went bankrupt, cheap and on the plus they are built out of a steel frame with tough wood panels boxing everything in. Steel framing takes care of any instability caused by the weight of equipment. Stacking two of these types of shelves did not sacrifice any instability. Note: The base is not pictured because I use it as a dresser for my clothes and shoes, anyone with a wife, fiance, or girlfriend living with them will understand.
Next, for the laptop/component shelf I used 2”thick X 10″wide Cedar. Homedepot sells this kind of lumber at about $15/10ft. a plank and will cut it down if needed. With 10ft. i was able to get a laptop shelf, 2 monitor stands and an extra length for whatever. To mount the laptop shelf i used 1 1/4” Galvanized steel pipes and matching pipe floor flanges. To ensure stability i drilled pilot holes into the base and used screws and washers to mount the shelf to the base. To secure the shelf i used basic wood screws.
For the monitor stands I used the same length and width pipe and flanges for each monitor stand which were also cut from 2″thick X 10″ wide Cedar plank. Once again, I secured them with wood screws.
After a few hours of sanding down the wood shelves to eliminate the possibilty of getting splinters, painting parts so everything looks pro, and assembling everything, this is the finished result. I painted all the parts to add color and character. I also added led lighting to match the color scheme and as you can see my setup is already in a road case so i just put that on the shelf and get busy.
Now i said i solved the issues of stability and parts. The stability comes from the raw building tough quailty of the products i used. As most of you have probably noticed, the ikea shelves are made out of a sort of partilce board compound that really seems more like pressed cardboard and adding the weight of turntables, mixers, and monitors can really stress that type of material. Using a solid piece of real wood makes all the difference in the world. Sure, you sacrifice weight for strength but if you’re building this setup chances are it’s not going out to shows and parties so weight may not matter and may even be a plus. Strength gets bumped up further by using steel hardware for the legs and mounts. Since I used real wood and the proper wood screws for such a product, everything is stable as a rock. Now when I say stable, i mean that i can literally sit on the shelving setup and nothing rocks or creaks or gives, so holding up a few monitors and laptops is nothing compared to what it can really hold. The issues people are having with screws being too short is easily solved by taking the short screws to your local hardware store and picking up similar but longer screws.
When all is said and done I have about $200 put into the build and now have no idea where to go from hear, but maybe it’s done and I’m just being overly ambitious.
The Supplies:
2 clothing display shelves stacked (18″ high/ea) FREE
1 10ft. legth of Cedar wood cut into 4 lengths (laptopshelf 54″, monitor shelves 12″, spare shelf about 22″) $15
4 1 1/4″di. steel pipe (8” long) $ 8/ea
8 1 1/4″di. steel floor flange $10/ea
8 2″ long bolts w/ nuts and washers $3 total
1 box of 1 1/4″ wood screws $4
Flat Black spray-paint $.97/can
Key Lime Green spray-paint $4/can
4 USB LED light flex strips $10/ea
Total: Less than $200
Cheers DJTT!
I modified mine slightly with with a tempered glass surface as I didn’t need the extra depth for turntables…
Im diggin the glass top setup. how did you get your picture posted?
Cheers! I just uploaded on my windows laptop, I couldn’t upload on mac/ipad/iphone!
where did you get the legs from?
The poles are just standard 35mm speaker poles bought from eBay. I mounted them to 35mm top hats by cutting through the top of the expedit units the same way you would mount a top hat to a speaker cabinet. My speakers had the pole mount built in so just slotted on top. I’m going to switch them to Rokit RP6 soon so will need to sort out a mounting bracket.
The legs under the glass were just from ikea..
whats the model name for the Ikea legs used under the glass? And you should consider the KRK VXT 6 instead of the Rokit PR6.
Cheers DJTT!

Just saw this linked on a friend’s FB wall… the Expedit DJ setup is definitely popular. I created mine just under a year ago with 2 Expedits as the base, and a piece of counter for the actual deck surface.
Thank you for the inspiration !

Great article. You’ve recommended elevation feet to get a good table height. They are also important so you can tuck your toes, like in kitchen balcons. I’ve seen too many finished tables without feet not being so ergonomic. Ywe table looks awesome too!
This is a great point!
Okay, if I have this right, the bookcase is turned on it’s side and the legs or base attached.
I have 4 (possibly dumb) questions [using turntables in traditional, not battle position]
1. Where do you have the amp, disc player and other equipment?
2. What size LILLÅNGEN leg frames?
3. Will the Technics SL1200 MK2 turntables fit comfortably on the 15 3/8 ” Depth?
4. What are the cubby sizes?
Firstly, thank for this guide and everyones comments and pictures, they have been really helpful!
I have a narrow space in which to put all my kit, and I don’t mix with vinyl, so I used the Bestå solution rather than Expedit.
What I used:
2x Besta 60x40x38cm
1x Persby Shelf 59cm
1x Capita legs (2 per pack)
2x Bestå Tombo Glass doors
2x Bestå Legs
Protip: You need a 11mm diameter drill bit for the Capita angular legs, I only found this out when putting it together.
I also have my music server in the lower cabinet, which can get hot, so I used this to cool things down: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Coolerguys-120x120x25mm-USB-Fan-Grill/dp/B001NJ27QM/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2UX1Q3IN4TG2S
Can anyone tell me how they managed to get the bolts on the Godmorgon legs attached to the Expedit bookshelves?
The bolts are only just long enough to penetrate to from the top to the bottom. After have several tries at making a larger hole so I could screw the nut and the washer up into the cavity I am leaning towards using an epoxy glue to hold the things in place.
I just put together new dj stand for my studio with Ikea parts.
Creative and inspiring blog. I love it. Indiabook
michael boyes
this is my ikea dj booth, i seen this forum and thoought i had to get me 1 of these great
value and quality.
Hi everyone. wanted to share my dj ikea table . And thanks for the info.
1 x book case
1 x table top
1x shelf
6 x anguler legs
Hi guys been checking out the home built dj table so i built my own total cost 163.00. And thanks everyone for the info.
I have moved and updated my setup. Technics 1200’s in battle position. Check. Pioneer CDJ-2000 Nexus’. Check. Okay and might as well throw in the Pioneer RMX-1000. Check. Pioneer DJM-900. Yep. Got that too. Custom DJ Booth at the perfect height. Got it. Wait. I should create a custom remix and copy it over. Yeah. I can do that too. Questions?
DJ Roubo, did you make the desk on the right too?
Apparently I don’t come by here often enough! The desks on the left and in the middle, I made. The one of the right was purchased.
What brand is it?
Nice setup. What brackets did you use to raise the DJ worktop, and the speakers?
I can’t find anything similar that’s screw fixed at both sides. A bit like the Capita brackets but straight rather than angled.
Great set up! The best I’ve seen
The setup is older but those that are interested in how I made my custom booth, you can check it out http://youtu.be/E06a3ISDgTg
hope your panties didn’t get too wet….
I’d like to know the details on how you built the battle style model. Please n thanks
I never created a list of parts so I’m not 100% sure of everything in it. I literally went to IKEA one day and just started grabbing things. There’s a video above where I show how it’s put together. Check that out. That will get you started. Good luck!
Hi. Curious how you drilled into the Lack shelves as they are particle board and pretty thin. How were you able to do it without breaking them and so they are sturdy enough to hold the weight of the speakers and everything else? Thanks
Thanks for the inspiration! I used the Expedit, half a Lack TV bench, a spare shelf off a Billy bookcase, and 2x Dioder LED lighting.
Hey mate, can you share more pics? Lack TV bench is same length but not same width, did you saw it to make it same width ?
I know this comment is a bit old, but the angled legs are o longer available at IKEA, has anybody used anything else ?
you just have to improvise those angled legs are not really necessary
i have a little problem because my the rod of my angeled capita legs is to short so it is just not long enough for putting it through my expedit how did you made this ?
Thanks a lot for this blog that helped me to build my own desk.
As I did not have enough space, the best formula for me was a 3*2 shelf that you cannot find at IKEA as the Expedit does not exist with those dimensions. It comes from another furniture vendor in France called BUT and costed 60 €.
http://www.but.fr/produits/32749/Separation-6-cases-NEXT-wenge.html
I also used angular CAPITA legs but not exactly the same way as i saw here.
I had to make sure it would support the weight of 2 SL1200.
DIY music room, made of plyboard 🙂
Just a question… With the angular legs, which I was able to find… Do you NOT anchor those COMPLETELY in the shelving unit? you just drill holes?
This was my issue! the bolts are _exactly the same depth as the top of the bookshelves, so no room for the nut and washer underneath. Did you find a solution? At the moment I think I’m going to Araldite the things down.
Here is my version of the Ikea DJ Booth
I am building based off this… the screws from the bottom of the angled stands don’t get all the way through the top of the bookcase.. anyone want to share how they got around this (ie the best way to carve out the underside)
I need to know the answer to this as well. PLEASE!
i used gorilla glue along with screws. and the screws do not go all the way through. its holding well. i use the angled legs with a Lack base to hold my monitors.
If you read through this post, people have explained it
How do you connect the godmorgon legs to the desk? Where do u get the extra bracket?
My plan is to use a 22mm (the same diameter as the feet) spade bit to drill just far enough into the top to house the plastic feet. This should be enough to ensure stability.
I have been thinking about doing this IKEA set up but wonder from anyone who already has if they find that pulling records out become a hassle? I was thinking about finding, or having something built with pull out drawers so that you could flip through your records directly from your drawer and keep them in a dust free environment. Also Do the shelves allow your records to stand up strait or do they have to lean? Its hard enough to keep your records from warping on their own. Also coming from IKEA how sturdy is this, and if you move it a couple times does it start to break? Thanks!
I have only just begun building my setup, all I have so far is the expedit shelf and the capita legs. But I really like it, as does the Mr’s, which means im aloud it in the lounge, score!
But yes after 10 minutes of DJ’ing, I was annoyed of pulling the records out of the shelves. I just grab a bunch of the tunes that im playing at the time, and put them to the side.
The shelves are good for the old tunes you dont play so much any more. And as long as you have enough in each shelf, they stand up pretty well. I know Ikea sells boxes specifically to fit into the dimensions of the expedit shelves, but im not sure if records would fit in them.
I was actually suprised at how sturdy it is. When I unpacked the box and felt the weight of each peice of “wood” I didnt have my hopes very high, but once it was together it was suprisingly good.
If I was you I’d do it. Im happy with it!
I used the same method using the Ikea parts. DJTT and the thread was so
helpful. I’m pretty handy putting stuff together. I decided to freak
it a lil using the high gloss red. Make my basement pop. It was fun
putting it together with my cousin. Still have a few tweaks but I’m
well on my way. Thanks DJTT.
this is sort of what I plan on doing. VERY NICE!

putting it together with my cousin. Still have a few tweaks but I’m
well on my way. Thanks DJTT.
Does anyone know where I can get those angular capita legs? IKEA no longer has then 🙁
I think you just have to use the Godmorgon ones.
anyone know a book case/shelf thats 130cm wide, 80cm wide and 80cm high give or take 10cm for each dimension
My custom dj booth from Ikea (3 Expedit) Bookcases, (2 43″ Lack shelves), 2 packs of the (8″ Capita Legs), (1 Bjarnum Folding Hook), and (2 Dioder LED Light Stips)
OK – I had a question – or two (for starters). I’m going to create my own DJ booth from some of these IKEA parts. I was just wondering… In general… what type of screws and lengths did you use to connect the parts. Also… The bigger question… How (if you are using TWO shelves put together, so you have a deeper desk space… Do you glue them together? What did you do, if you did use two shelving units to make your space double deep?
I also used the Ikea parts for the upper table.
Everything was self made, except of the coloration.
Just built a booth. Having limited Space I made it fit on a dresser. Total cost…$57.
Thanks for the article…I just followed it and built my own booth BUT, be AWARE, IKEA removed the CAPITA ANGULAR legs out of the sortiment
thank you guys i am going to bill me one yes yes yes

Hi guys!Thank you for tips&tricks!
These are my plans:
http://www.facebook.com/notes/sz%C3%A9kely-marci/ikea-dj-pult/10200183920112386
seeing examples of the D.I.Y Dj stands have definitely inspired me to create my own Dj stand, had a lot of fun making it, went over my budget but it was worth it.
my ikea dj hack leaves a lot to be desired. i’m bored with it.
How do you find the height of the decks?
No matter, just realised that this isn’t the same Expedit
this is actually 2 expedit 1X5’s stacked on top of each other laid vertically. the turntables are a tad low but workable. the monitors i find too low and i still havent solved the CDJ problem being that i rarely even use them.
I’m interested in building this setup…anybody know what was used? It looks like it was a single EXPEDIT bookcase to start with. Thanks in advance.
the base is an Expedit 2X4. the shelves are Lack. and the legs are Capita

Mounted the monitors today utilizing IKEA capita legs.
or you could just get one designed and manufactured to your requirements from http://www.steelworkshop.co.uk like i did…really nice and good prices for the quality.
they dont have them listed on the website but i just sent them an email with my requirements
and they give me a price (not sure if they ship worldwide)
I was looking to upgrade my home setup. Found this article, and created my own custom setup. Instead of using the EXPIDIT bookcases ( I already have the big ones for records), I went with the AKURUM lower kitchen cabinets, the RATIONELL shelves, the PRAGEL counter top, and the CAPITA brackets for the risers.
Inspired by this thread, went out and grabbed Costco cube storage bookcase $145, some plastic PVC couplings $5, single white shelf $10, DCM speakers and Technics receiver from Craigslist $80, Polk Audio book shelf speakers from Best Buy $50, Odyssey laptop stand $30, Laptop stand from Office Max $30,, 2 NDX 400’s @ $100 each, M6 USB Mixer from Numark $100, Sylvania LED lightstrip $32, cheapo Sony headphones $30 and cheapo light from Target $10. $722 in total. I’m really happy with the current setup. Awaiting IKEA CAPITA legs for the permanent setup and browsing the net for good deal on Technics turntables:)
After going through this forum several times over the past few months, I have finally created my version of the Ikea DJ desk but with a twist. I used the Stolmen shoe shelf and the Vika Adil legs for my unique version.
thanks for posting this article and for all the ideas people have included in the comments. my set up,much to the disapproval of my wife, is plonked clumsily on top of expedit units. very functional but not good to look at. i think a trip to the local ikea might be in order soon to buy a couple of additions and turn the unit into a thing of beauty!
hi two question regarding the speaker stands
1.Would yamaha hs80s monitors, be to heavy for the angle capita legs to handle, even if i used two for each speaker stand?
2.f i was to go for the godmorgen legs instead, how does it mount on the desk it there is only one fitting for the base?
hi.. i got these hs80s too.. and i was wondering if the godmorgen stands can hold their weights? and if it did how did u manage to attache them..
DJ Jey……..My IKEA DJ/Studio Set-up
Made one for an upcoming gig. Used an led light in the back custom hollowed out shelves area with faceplates from ikea as well.
How do you attach the capita legs as only one side an be screwed into the wood?
Thanks for the inspiration. People put some sick setups together. Found some great pieces in the as is section of IKEA. Well, here is what I have done so far.
pic 1
Here is day 2… still need lighting and better Idea for speakers.
but how do you attach the capita legs to the lack shelf??
That is stupid
Im inspired. To my suprise there were alot of great ideas on here. Well done to the author of this article.
This is really an awesome tip! Thanks! Totally pimped up mine with this tutorial!
Very cool, I’m going to try to adapt some ideas for a more portable unit.
That is really a fantastic dj mixer booth for a affordable price you can make an awesome things like that.Thanks.
I just wanted to say thanks for this great post. i had been browsing the web for dj stands with a flush fit. after realising how much a bespoke one would be to order i decided to go the ikea route. i’m no chippy, so this is a first attempt. all the materials came in well under £100, and that INCLUDES 3 ikea expedit shelves for some of my records to go underneath. as you can see i am not bothered about all this being portable. i am long past the active dj stage, this is purely hobby for me these days. the flush fit coffin was a bank holiday project. and yes, i realise there could be some improvements, particularly in the mixer department. the behringer ddm4000 is incredibly good fun, but feels cheap to use. it was just a temporary solution, i previously had a 2 channel vestax which would be no good here. i’d really like a djm 2000 or a A&H db4, pricey though ! my monitors need placing properly, i’m currently looking at buying wall mounts for them. anyway, i digress. thanks once again to Hedgehog (and all other users who sent pictures) for this post and the bags of inspiration it gave me to put a bank holiday to good use.
first time i see genelec speakers and CDJ 2000 pluged into a beringher mixer. How it sounds?
That behringer Mixer is actually bad ass. look at the reviews on Amazon and everywhere else.
Those are 900s xD
Holy fuck that behringer mixer in that particular setup 😀 It looks like a lada that went in to a ferrari meetup… haha!
Hahahahahaha you just killed me 😉
Hi
found this page on google searching for diy tips on dj stands
Brilliant ideas and better making your own to fit the space i need.
Kind Regards Steve ,London UK
in the first image of this post , the first setup , what inch have the laptop ?
Success, Ikea hack with custom shelf designed by me. Shelf is made from table top found in scrap section of Ikea. Dimensions were made and taken to wood work shop for cutting. Shelf was then assembled and installed to the table top.
Want.
Sick setup man!
p.s. nice shelfing too ;P
no but seriously nice done! 😀
Looks killer! How did you mount the top shelf to your bottom shelf?
I LIKE DJ
Here’s a photo of what I’ve done so far, I got most my ideas from here.
Thank you.

Thank you.
in the pic with the speaker stands….there are these round disc mounts that attach the godmorgon legs to the table. I’m in the process of creating a dj booth for the home but I really want to know where I can get those round disc mounts. my godmorgon legs didn’t come with that.
Here is my version of the IKEA DJ Booth. I made custom posts to get the table to the height I wanted. Sometimes it helps to be a woodworking (or more specifically a woodturner).
This is the best one i’ve seen! Modeling mine directly from this photo! Thanks!!
Glad you like! It’s a pretty awesome setup.
Hey,
I see you managed to get the turntables in battle position.
This set up, what components did you add?
There is a full sized Vika Amon tabletop which makes this possible.
I have updated my setup. Here is the link where I talk about it a bit: http://youtu.be/E06a3ISDgTg
Enjoy!
How are you guys attaching your Capita Angled legs to the Expedit book shelf? The screw on mine doesnt go all the way through the book shelf so I can’t attach the bolt at the bottom to secure the legs? Any help you be appreciated!
Thanks, Olie

Thanks for the inspiration, this is mine :
Hi there, you’re setup looks amazing! Lol I’m new to all this and was wondering if you’d mine listing everything thing you used to create it. As in were all the pieces from IKEA and if so could you tell me which one’s to get so I could try recreate it. Thanks!
Putting the shelves at an angle is a great idea giving space for a chair!
How did you mount the laptop stand with angled legs the thickness on expedit bookcase is to thick for bolt
I’d like to know the same thing, you managed to get yours finished?

Grab some 3/8 by 3 inch bolts and some washers and screw them in from the bittom.
Having the exact same problem. The bolt on the capita legs is too short. HELP!
Here is some pictures of the solution on this forum thread http://forum.djtechtools.com/showthread.php?t=67459
“I had this exact problem… basically you have to go to a hardware store and get a longer screw, matching bolt and a large washer.
You can remove the bottom of the bracket and take it with you to the hardware store to get the exact replacement.
This confused me for a while.
It is mention in Xonetacular’s thread but they should make an edit in the djtt blog post to state this is essential.
http://forum.djtechtools.com/showthread.php?t=36997
“You will need two long metric bolts and large washers for the capita brackets. These are the exact bolts I used from Lowes: http://www.lowes.com/pd_214487-37672…RL=&facetInfo=
M10-1.50 x 75′
Once you get these parts though it’s super simple.
You will also need a drill and i recommend a 13mm drill bit to make the hole. This give you enough wiggle room.
Make sure you measure 50cm between the holes. Basically 50 cm in – hole 1 – 50 cm – hole 2 – 50cm to end of expedit
Also the black plastic circle that comes with the capita brackets you swap to the top and use the washer underneath”
could you not just turn the capita legs upside down ??
Nice! I don’t have any handyman skills so I opted for a dragon frontboard. Bought mine at http://www.dragonfrontboards.com. They have some nice designs!
I’m itching to make one of these! how and what kind of screws would you use to screw two expedits together?
had my expedite stand for years and added to it just today… thanks to this forum!!
had my expedite stand and added to it just today… thanks to this forum!!
How did you attach the Capita Legs to the book shelf mate? The bolts on the legs dont go all the way through my book case so i can secure them on?
the bolts go thru but leave very little room to tighten.. It will hold as mine has, but you gotta tighten carefully.
Great article! It inspired me to do this!
Hi,
i recently purchased:an expedit book casevika amon table top2* lack 12″ shelflack 43″ shelfa pair of capita angular legsa pair of godmorgon adjustable legsso far, i have made the expedit book case and drilled in the capita angular legs into the lack 43″ shelf. im kinda struggling at how i should fit the capita legs onto the vika amon tabletop, do i just drill in? im kinda at a loss at how to secure it if it is drilled in. and if so does anyone know what size drill i would need? i currently have been using a power tool borrowed but i doubt the drill hole would be big enough for the capita angular’s screw to fit through.
any help would be madCHEERS!
I used the plastic washer underneath for more support. youll need a 1/2 inch drill bit. I just went ahead and drilled in. It wasnt a hard thing to do since the wood is so soft that it just dropped in

Hello.
Great article…instantly went out and bought what i needed, and followed the design quite closely.
very happy with the result
Do the speaker stands feel sturdy? I like your design I just wanted to verify before I jumped on it. I have some mackie mr5 monitors, they weigh about 15 lbs. can you do me a favor and put something that heavy to make sure how it feels?

I assembled mine using the same design and the speaker stands can hold about 20 pounds depending on how sturdy you make it.
but how do you attach the speakers (or speaker shelves) to the stand?? its looks like there is only screws on one end of the GODMORGON posts.

Zee, how did you screw the capita angled brackets into the expidit bookshelf? The bolt on the capita bracket is the same length as the bookshelf’s thickness (no way to put the nut on the end).
Hi, i had the same problem with CAPITA legs, so this is my solution. See the pics 🙂
I just got my setup together after reading this article. I was going to go the route of the expedit bookshelves but I really wanted to put me decks battle style. I was in Ikea and stumbled upon the Utby kitchen island. It was regularly $269 for the base plus $50 for the Utby table top. I got it on sale for $99 and used a Vika table top instead which is the same dimensions as the Utby but cheaper since it isnt solid core. Figured some people out there may like this setup.

Also I just looked and didnt see the unit i got on the website. I think they are getting rid of it. Mine has a shelve in the middle. The ikea number is 001.175.52.
I bought 2 since it was such a good deal.

That is a really bad positioning for your monitors!
I bought a trestle table from Ikea way back and the weight of my turntables put a terrible sag in the middle of it. That is obviously a problem for tracking, record wear and sound quality.
Custom made, with a lot of help. tech gigs are not present. Release shelf hold up to 49 keys keyboard. cca 400€
All tech powered on only with a mouse movement !
I made one using 2 Expedit squares, and some led lights
Oh snap Ywe that is sick!
Can you make a forum thread telling us some more about this jewel of a desk? Surely it’s not just some squares and leds, we want details! 😀

Looks mad like lnzo said… sick! Any chance u could put more deets up such as what you used and costs as I’d like to do something similar but also with a bit of variation with both decks and lighting etc but if you could post the deets on yours so I could use it as a guide for materials and cost that would be ace m8!

how the fuck are you supposed to dj with those cdj’s. I’d really like to know how you use a pitch control thats 10 yards away.
Its the picture, i can reach both pitches with my arms out wide. So from the mixer its easely reachable. But now I have it all in a flightcase, since my GF wanted a proper desk. Next booth going to be expedit again.
I assume he played a role in Jesus resurrection play.
Great article… Now how about something portable ??
I have a Tech Cart for this purpose and it works really well (the only real difference between a regular rolling cart and a tech cart is that tech carts generally have a power strip built in and a hole through the top shelf for cords… they’re typically built to hold a TV monitor on top and show to a small room of people all at once). Mine is an Apollo, but there are a lot of manufacturers that make sturdy plastic (or even metal) carts with lockable wheels in various widths/depths and heights for gear. There are also a lot of options for these kinds of carts, like a swiveling power cord arm (which I use for my headphone hook) and “skirts” which dress up the cart and hides unsightly stuff behind fabric (you can also use Duvetyne, Muslin or anything else for this purpose). I recommend getting carts (that can come apart for transportation) with circular “legs” between the shelves so you can replace them with PVC pipe (stronger than stock and you can trim them to exact height) or even steel pipe (with this option, you can start bolting and welding things to the legs). Even if you don’t use the tech cart at your show, it’s a great way to transport your gear (all at once) from your vehicle to the venue in one trip.
Can we see a pic from a portable DJ unit? Thanks!
Yeah, I’ll take a picture in a day or so.
I had the Expedit bookshelf for years with my decks on top, found it a bit confined tho. Read this article on Sunday and went straight down to Ikea that day. 2 nights later it’s finished, haven’t had time to properly set up tho. Thanks DJtechtools!

Hey Salim,
I saw your shots and considered using one of them in the article.
Very nice setup indeed although I don’t get what you are doing with the vinyl 😛
This article is quite timely!
Having done a couple of gigs, I realized that things never went as smoothly out as when I’m at home. When I’m out I use my laptop. When I’m in, I use my iMac. When I’m out, I’m standing up. When I’m in, I’m at my desk. And there are always settings that are different which messes things up. I decided a couple of weeks ago to create a setup that is the same one both when I’m home and when I’m out.
This booth is the result. It’s light but sturdy; easy to tear down and setup. It’s taller than my desk which makes mixing that much easier but still easy to sit at with a bar stool. The panels come off easily and are easy to modify. And the rope light changes color so I can match any color theme.
Costs:
Lumber: $30
Panels: $44 (2 for $22 each)
Hinges: $ 8
Paint: $28 (Spray paint)
Misc: $10 (Sandpaper, glue, ect.)
Rope Light: $40
Total: $160
Optional: Laptop Stand $99
So far it’s working out great!
Tim
What Kind OF panels are they
Any suggestions for a DJ booth/production studio hybrid? I would like to have a standing dj booth but i would like to be able to sit down for production.
I was originally going for this: http://www.sefour.com/DSC_0155_edit_lamp_web_L.jpg
I heard their quality wasn’t great though, so I’m still trying to design something close.
Great article alex! im in definate need of a studio furniture upgrade… definately going with this kind of setup… and for that price range and flexibility… just… awesome
I’m going to this weekend! I love your guys DIY posts, keep em coming!
I built my setup with all ikea as well! I opted for 2 black bar stools (hight adjustable) for the speakers and a large stainless steel countertop for my main work area. I set the legs sideways so I would have room for a shorter coffee table underneath. I added a small black desk to the end so when guests arrive with their gear they have a place to work and easy access to mixer etc. To add more table spaace, I added a keyboard rack mounted under the desk that slides out and is height adjustable. I use a really cool high chair with leg rest that adjusts from low office chair height all the way up till your feet are dangling! I also use a wall mount articulated monitor arm which swings around nicely.. my main monitor is a 27″ samsung lcd, studio monitors are the m-audio BX8a, laptop MSI intel i7 8 core with 12GB ram and 1TB hard drive. traktor s4, maschine, akai mini, akai 88key master keyboard and a novation ultranova. oh and pioneer djm-3000 with rotary kit!
http://boijeanius.tumblr.com/post/11558246249/custom-dj-booths-custom-dj-desk Here is my Custom Desk made with under 200
That one looks awesome. Where did you get the parts?
home depot, 2 sheets of plywood and 1 sheet of laminate
that is awesome! is there anyway we could some more pics of this? maybe even some dimensions or techniques used in building it?
Im thinking of making something like this myself for an S4 and Akai apc40. I like the flush, clean look. There is a company that makes these in a similar style called Hoerboard, and they charge bucks.
Didnt make out of IKEA parts. My godfather and I went to home depot, spent $120 (at the most) on parts and made this. This unit has heavy duty wheels too. Next Im going to put a shelf for speakers. Check it out.

U got a nice alfa 156 there. 2.5 v6?
sure is mate. Not mine though… I had to make a dj table out of recycled materials, so european cars are not really in my price range at the moment. 😉
i’m guessing that the box under the white macbook in the photo, is a external sound card, does any one know what brand/model it might be, i’m looking for a external pro level unit.
It’s an Audio 8 DJ by Native Instruments
Thanks.
Probably the best external sound card you can buy. It is a tank. I swear by mine. No problems in almost two years of use.
I have had no problems with my Behringer U-Control UCA-222 this last two years, and it was about GBP £12.00 on ebay new.
i might be mistaking but it seems like a native instrument audio 10 or maybe 8 dj http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-audio-10/

My daughter wanted props for her pink laptop. 😉
Hahahaha, Excellent write up Alex. I am currently rebuilding the studio. A Vika Amon desk for production and maybe some Expedit/Lack additions for DJ booth. 🙂
Where do you see a pink laptop o.0.
The production desk next to the DJ table is also a 2m long VIKA AMON. Looks mighty fine. See the picture!

I never noticed that. What’s your daughters name?
No worries man, she saw and I didn’t 😉
Her name is Riley Jones.
(Oh, by the way if you haven’t noticed already, this is tekki. 😉 )
It would be a shame if I didn’t know your name by now. Added acknowledgements to Riley.
Thanks so much man, my daughter’s having the biggest smile on her face right now. 🙂
A little late, but Riley said thanks. 🙂
is 3 matching Flightcases on top of a folding table with a laptop stand not baller anymore?? sad day
Seems like it isn’t for these people, also, baller isn’t swag anymore.
great article, my friend is looking to build one at his place so this will help
One of the coolest, more inspiring articles for a while guys!
Thanks alot DJTechTools!
very good article.thumbs up!
What size nuts and bolts can we order as well?
what is the ideal height / angle for a laptop?
I’m struggling to get my laptop ergnomically positioned for using traktor with my xone:4D
that depends on how tall you are
so how is it worked out?
I find your designs pretty good and very neat, thank you for sharing your ideas. I was looking myself during some time for a solution where I could have both a dj-booth as wells as home studio desk for production. Finally I figured it out this modest ikea booth/homeStudio. It was just a 150×75 cm top table. 4 adjustable legs. And for the second level (monitors and screen) I used a long shelf 190×26. From it I (a friend) cut 2 pieces 20×26 that I have used as “legs”. Screwed to the long 150x26cm remaining board. This second level actually is not screwed or something to the table.Cheers.Production Mode (1 &2) Dj Mode (take around 3 mins to take tt and mixers out, and flip the screen…) (pic 3) http://funkymotiondjs.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/img_0292.jpg http://funkymotiondjs.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/img_0293.jpg http://funkymotiondjs.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/img_0294.jpg
Natch can you go battlestyle with enough room ?
Havent tried because I am not very into battlest… but I think it would be enough, maybe the pitch would be just by the edge of the second level table…
I like your desk design. Trying to figure one out myself. I have a bedroom studio and just bought a KRK 10S Subwoofer. I guess my question since I have Rokkit 5, do I really need the subwoofer or is it overkill considering it is just for home issue with my mixing. What to you think?

You are welcome, sir.
how are the monitors in that pic mounted on the adjustable legs? I’d guess some wooden plate to rest the on?
These are studio-monitor stands Xonetecular had laying around. http://www.amazon.com/OnStage-SMS6000-Adjustable-Studio-Monitor/dp/B000CD3QYM
I didn’t list them because it was non-IKEA.

Hedgedog, excellent article!
Does anyone know what is the parts list for the black DJ stand in the 2nd picture from the bottom (the one with the iMac on top)?
Thank you.
These are BESTA units http://www.ikea.com/de/de/search/?query=besta.
thanks for the info! (btw: oops, the typo in my previous post was unintentional.)

Hey there that’s my desk 🙂 i’ve got full list of parts on my facebook page, i’ve also updated the design now for my new setup, the Besta units are great as they are slimmer and don’t require the 60cm deep vika top so it’s more compact, I also put doors on with push to open hinges (from ikea)

P.S. Great post DJTT!
So yellow which stand is yours? because the 2nd pic from the bottom on the blog and the you pic you posted in the comments seems alot different, different mixer, laptop, desk color maybe, im kinda blind… Or are they the same just with the doors added?
The desk is the same but yes I’ve upgraded/changed my setup, I was on SSL but now I’m on TSP2 with a maschine, I also changed my mixer to a rane empath and swapped my MacBook to a Pro 🙂 anyway yes. The desk is essentially the same, I added Besta Doors and Draws (exact details on my fb page try the link or google lazyellow ikea desk) and then I moved the lack shelf on the Capita legs closer together and outwards at an angle. This was so the feet could fit behind the mixer allowing enough space for the turntables to sit in battle position. Before the capita legs were sideways and adjacent to each other this worked well but didn’t have much lateral stability it did wobble a bit now they are in like a V shape? But the essential parts are the same only real addition are the doors and draws. hit me up if you need help/unsure how 🙂

Expedit 2X4 shelving on it’s side, and I also added a Lack TV stand on top. . .fit’s my turntables battle style a little bit better. . .but now it’s too high. . .but everyone else is taller than me in my studio, so it works out pretty well.
Just get something you can step on to raise your height. There are some DJs who have to do that in clubs too.
Anyone have an idea of how many records each cube can hold ?
Around 30.
I really like this post, thanks guys!

table: ex-closet, $0
cases: $20 each, electronics store
rack: little help from my friends
design: Some University of Applied Arts and Design in Germany 🙂
total cost: significantly less than $100
you can’t use a single expedit by itself for a battle set.
i have two for my records right now.
you’d have to add an extra top as shown.
i have the broder system as my desk right now.
i was thinking of using the broder system for my dj table.
but wait, why not just use controller sets? They take up less room
No From IKEA but Made with under $200. Custom Studio Desk http://twitter.com/#!/boijeanius/status/114476911408844800/photo/1

I put together a similar desk but opted for besta units
I’ve recently updated my desk to fit my turntables in Battle position, I considered using the VIKA table top but 60cm was too deep, the Besta TV bench fits perfectly!
so whats your besta tv bench sitting on?
Hey there, The top desk section is a Besta TV bench it’s 120 x 49 x 28 I think..then this sits ontop off a Besta Cabinet which is 120 x 40 x 60. This brings everything to a height of just under 90cm. Then the shelf is a Lack Shelf 110cm on slanted Capita legs, The doors and Draws are also from the Besta range. The only Mod that needs to be done is drilling into the top for the Capita legs, I considered expedits but the Besta offered more flexibility with storage, the desk pictured above is the first version of the design and setup, I then added doors and moved the shelf back slightly to accommodate my turntables in battle position 🙂 The capita legs moved to a narrower position to fit behind the mixer, For stability I’d attach the lack shelf to the wall with the included bracket. The Besta units are made to sit on top of each other and come with sticky pads and clips. There’s more ideas and instructions on my Facebook page link in my first post or google Lazyellow Ikea Desk!

What is that tabletop on top of the expedit in the top picture? because it looks like that setup is more than deep enough to go battlestyle and with only 1 expedit. Anyone know what that is? or deny/confirm its deep enough?? that would be tits
i also want to know what that is, one bookshelf is fine but two is too fat for my taste
This is my desk. You can’t go battle style. You can add another vika amon top to the expedit and if will give you about another 6 inches. Which is more than enough, it’s just shy of being able to go battle style.
so its a vika amon top and it IS big deep enough to go battlestyle? no tonearms in range of bumping anything? Why did you choose to angle the top back like that? is it stable?? looks alot taller then other units how high does it sit?;
yes everything will fit nice if you add a vika top.
I have an angle so I can get the shelf slightly away from the top of the desk to allow for more natural light and a less cluttered overhead. And honestly it just feels better than having something straight on top.
this is sickk.. thanks ean for posting something that is more cost friendly and affordable for some djs (me being a broke college student)… and the final finish looks legit!!!!

The picture titled as “vika amon tabletop” shows my desk, don’t know where you got this picture from. 😉 but it’s okay for me using it in this article, never mind…
what i want to say is that the upper plate is no vika or things like that, but a LACK TV Bank, or better said a half of it!. the advantage is that the LACK plate has the same size in width and height and is deeper than the expedit
This is exactly what I did. . .but I built the entire thing minus 2 front legs.
Hey Floh,
It popped up somewhere in the thread mentioned at the beginning of the article. If you want it removed or be credited for it just say they name you want to appear in the acknowledgements!
no, as i said it’s no problem. i just wanted to let you know where the upper plate really comes from and that it’s tagged wrong. 🙂
that’s all why i posted my reply!
Floh, what are the legs or brackets you used in between the Expedit shelf and the LACK TV Bank?
Although it is in utter disarray, my DJ table was made with an old Ikea bed frame, Malm to be exact, and a few braces that were purchased from home depot. Total cost was around $50 + 4 hours planning and assembling.
This is awesome, one thing though on the IKEA site it looks like you get a 2×4 square EXPEDIT bookcase for $69.99 which is what most of these stands are using meaning you’d only need to buy one not two. This would effectively knock 69.99 off the price tag no?
You need 2 for the width if you want your decks in battle position.
1 would be fine if you don’t plan to turn your turntables though I guess.
