At the DJTT HQ we’ve been drooling over the images of the Pioneer DJM-S9 battle mixer since it first leaked early last week, and now that the full photos and announcement are out, it’s very exciting. There are two new videos from established battle DJs Eskei83 and Scratch Bastid on the DJM-S9 – watch now.
Eskei83 on the Pioneer DJM-S9
First up, Eskei83‘s routine – in case you missed it, he won the Red Bull Thre3Style World Championship in 2014. This performance is focused around an interesting flip of Jamie XX / Young Thug’s recent “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)”.
Eskei indicates in the post of this video on Facebook that he actually played a part in the creation of the mixer. When asked about the layout of the sampler / hot cues shared that he disagrees with the standard layout of the pads in terms of how they control Serato DJ – which thankfully the mixer allows for customization of via a third bank of pads that allow custom-mapping:
“I think it’s a waste of pads how it is now. It should be like:
LEFT DECK RIGHT DECK
CUE 1,2,3,4 CUE 1,2,3,4
Sample 1,2,3 Sample 4,5,6by default”
Skratch Bastid on the Pioneer DJM-S9
Skratch Bastid – who we last saw breaking in the DJM-S9s competition, the Rane TTM57MKII – also took a quick spin on the S9 mixer. He notes that Jazzy Jeff was actually the one to let him use the mixer at last weekend’s Playlist Retreat, a gathering of DJs and producers hosted by Jeff.
We’ve actually got a bunch of DJM-S9s on order already in the DJTT webstore – if you’re thinking of buying one, please support DJ Techtools and preorder yours here.
