We hear famous producers talk all the time about how important completing tracks is – putting in the work to finish an idea or concept and releasing it. Today we’ve found a project that aims to help producers complete a song each week, WeeklyBeats. The project allows producers to upload one original track every week, and then releases all the tracks on the homepage at 0:00 GMT each Monday.
The only requirements of participating in the project:
- songs must be over 1 minute in length
- must be submitted in MP3 format (max 16MB file size)
- no copyrighted (or non-derivative) samples allowed
- all tracks must be completed that week – no previously released songs
Weeklybeats started out in 2012 but took a yearlong hiatus for 2013, relaunching fresh this year – so far 344 artists have participated in the challenge’s first week. Participants will find that the concept is similar to a lot of other group challenges in that has a highly supportive community. Participants comment on each other’s tracks and give feedback and encouragement. There are no prizes and no winners, just the accomplishment of putting a finished piece work out into the world every week.
While it’s a day too late to do all 52 weeks of 2014, WeeklyBeats allows new participants to sign up at any time.
