We’ve known that a new update to Pioneer DJ’s top-of-the-line mixing hardware was coming soon – and now we’re getting our first official teaser from the company. The video appears to show quick flashes of two new pieces of hardware – what we suspect might be the XDJ-2000 NXS2 and DJM-900 NXS2. Watch the video and read more below.
Glimpses of DJM-900 NXS2
Pioneer is playing usual teaser game in this video – showing just quick flashes of what’s clearly new hardware, all while titling it with #NXS2 so we know these are the next Nexus units from the company. There’s not too much to see, even frame-by-frame – but Pioneer has also added some hints in the audio.
Listen as Kaskade finishes saying “so important” and the pitch/roll effect on his voice. Guaranteed that’s a new pitch effect on the mixer – and if you pause while going frame-by-frame at 0:19, you can even see the effect in action on the DJM-900 NXS2 screen:
There’s another glimpse of maybe the same effect a few frames later – “Helix” – which gives you a better indication of the mixer’s effects. This is probably Spiral 2.0 – instead of having pitch and loop length tied together, they seem to have independent controls on the interface:
We also see a quick flash towards the end of a second new BPM effect with the word “Pong” in it – likely a ping pong style delay:
Channel FX Indicators
The video also shows a shot of the channel faders – which gives another of a new mixer feature, an indicator light on each channel that shows when Beat FX are being applied to it. Will this mean Pioneer is doing away with the classic channel selector on the Beat FX unit?
EQ-Based Effects
There’s a few very quick indications that we get from the video that Pioneer DJ’s new mixer will have EQ-based effects, something that we’ve loved about mixers like Allen & Heath’s DB2/4 series for years. At the start of the video, these buttons emerge:
CDJ-2000NXS2 / XDJ-2000NXS2
Throughout the whole video, there’s barely a single glimpse of the CDJ/XDJ units aside from a few shots of the center jogwheel indicator and the pitch fader. But again, listen to what Kaskade is saying:
“Clean sound, warm sound, something that’s true to what it should sound like is extremely important”
Anyone else think that this is him talking up support for new lossless playback – like the much-needed FLAC?
CDJ-2000NXS Price Drop
A last-minute addition to this article – looks like Pioneer has also announced a one-time “MAP holiday” (read: price cut) to the CDJ-2000NXS model. It’s $300 off until 1/31/16 – we’ve got a few units in stock still if you want to grab one. You can bet that these units are being price dropped because there’s something new coming – but it also might be an indication that the new thing might just be lower in price. We’re still hoping the the CDJ-2000NXS model has a bit more room to add some new onboard features (loop/beat move anyone?).
Pioneer’s video closes with “1/12/16” – so we’ll see you all here in six days for the official announcement videos and plenty more discussion.
Build cost 300 sell cost 1700….that sums it up..good players but still with limitations like moving a loop just 1 beat? Enjoy using them but I thought traktor flow and quantisation, bpm works better than pioneer. (Traktor effects are superior) Still you don’t need a laptop on this and nice to show up at gigs with just a usb hdd..and we’ll traktor isn’t as stable as pioneer…would be nice if a company builded a computer in a device…..so you could get the best of both?
I’m expecting colored waveforms and beat jump to be included purely because they have been added in record box. I’m so pissed off that the 2000 Nexus model hasn’t been firmware updated to include these features it’s such a dog act of pioneer to not do that.
Gotta sell units somehow… How they don’t realize that they would sell 100% more if they dropped the price just 30%
I could not agree more – the CDJ is essentially a computer in a box so it should be possible to do much of this via firmware
I’m tired to buy new gear every 3 years. So I keep my CDJ2000Nexus and DJM2000. I hope the new CDJ/XDJ2000 nexus 2 have no much diferance. And I see them in the clubs and party’s. My set is working fine and maybe I can buy a thirth deck for a lot cheaper. But on the other side I am little curious what Pioneer is coming with.
There’s no one saying you HAVE to upgrade every time new gear hits the market.. CDJ 2000’s, released in 2009 (that’s almost seven(!) years ago), are still more than capable as a high end player. Hell, even a CDJ-1000’s could be just fine if you like dabbing around with CD’s.
Of course, there’ll always be new features you’ll be “missing out on” but they’re rarely worth it to pay thousands of dollars/euros every time they release something new..
You don’t have to but I bought my 900 NXS brand new in 2011 for 1650 out the door!! Rented it out for at least that much, and then sold it for 1250 in hopes they would have released this earlier… I was wrong but let your gear pay for itself.
I’m curious what DVS this mixer will support. I would expect the Serato DJ Club kit will work and that Recordbox eventually will have DVS for both this mixer and a R9 as well. However, I doubt that Traktor will work with the new mixer because Pioneer and Traktor appear to both be advocating separate hardware + software ecosystems and they haven’t released compatible products since the 900 Nexus was released.
I’m also curious if there will be a new DJM 2000 or 850. I would guess not; Pioneer will have both the S9 and the Nexus 900 2 for the respective DJs who prefer one or the other. They may release an updated 750 to competed with the Serato 43C and a new Denon four channel mixer because the $999 price point seems to be the competitive spot for DJ gear but not a larger than 12″ mixer or a mid range four channel now that the S9 is out.
It’s own. 100 bones says this won’t have traktor or serato support. This will ONLY be Rekordbox
At least for a year or so
Pioneers best selling mixer and controller are bundled with Serato so they won’t be excluding that from their new mixer. Traktor DVS is unlikely.
Except they just came out with rekordbox exclusive controllers, that look identical to the SZ and SX series. You might be able to buy a software license for serato at some point, maybe traktor but it won’t be bundled like it is with the S9
Trust that the Pioneer/Serato relationship has been tainted big time. The S9 may be the last exclusive we see for Serato IMO. There just is NO sense in releasing hardware for a competitor when you are trying to breach a certain market. I highly doubt the DJM-900NXS2 will be club kit supported at all……………

If you read the new updates to rekordbox flac is supported!
Wrong. This is for Rekordbox DJ software not Rekordbox hardware (eg CDJ’s).
I guess we shall see soon
Well no, this IS 100% how it is. This may change with the new units (which is what is being assumed above) but as for now FLAC is 100% supported by the software only.
Right I said it had Rekordbox support.. You assumed I meant the hardware for some reason. It’s an Easter egg so to speak. Why would you say hey guys our software now accepts FLAC, but sorry not your gear… The new units will.
Got ya. The above article entirely regards to hardware so I figured the comments following would remain on the same topic. No worries 🙂
The new units better support FLAC. They have received quite enough “flak” (pun intended LOL) for not supporting from the start as it is. I am thinking they (players and or mixers) will support STEMS as well TBH.
i’m sure the new denon stuff will top this ……. jk
That is funny indeed!!
And any PRO Link connected CDJ’s will be able to control your software through a single USB running from the mixer to your computer.
Isn’t that what has been going on?
Up until now you had to run a USB from each player to your computer in order to use them in HID mode. 4 players equals 4 USB cables. Now it will only take one USB cable.
I know how they work… To me unless you’re manipulation vinyl, using serato just seems silly at this point when rekordbox is basically the same thing. Plus you lose all the info on the players screen when you use hid. It’s old tech and I have a feeling rekordbox is gonna put a billet in its head.
Don’t mind my grammatical and spelling errors…
But you clearly got it mixed up. Cause you see, with timecode you do lose all the info on the screens. Not with HID. With HID you still can scroll through your library on the CDJ. The hotcues (first three of them) come up on the hotcue-buttons and the waveform shows up on the display. At least it does when you are using Traktor like I do. Serato, I cant speak for. And about the sillyness with using Serato or Traktor? You know what website this is right?
True.
I am a traktor user. But for serato it the same.
You are aware that even with the New Rekordbox DJ you lose the scrolling waveforms as well and Serato DJ actually makes better use of the screens than RBDJ thus far, correct?
But u still have to link up the players to the mixer through ethernet (PRO Link).
Double USB up on the left for connecting Traktor/Serato and a third USB on the top right for send/return. This, with the upgraded sound quality, will be a gamechanger. For me at least.
New scratch mixer has their new warm, fat soundcard. I am sure new Nexus will have same soundcard. So if you want to check the sound now, go and listen to their latest scratch mixer.
It would be hilarious if they announced MQA/High-resolution audio support but still no FLAC/ALAC
Flac support is in rekordbox 4.
really?!

FLAC is ONLY supported when running the Rekordbox software. As in when you use CDJ-2000Nexus’s etc. with just Rekordbox it is still not supported.
“Clean sound, warm sound, something that’s true to what it should sound like is extremely important” that sounds like vinyl records to me 😉 *ducks and runs*
FLAC
so the leaked picture of the new DJM-900 nexus2 is legit!
