Ableton continues to rule the domain when it comes to a completely integrated hardware instrument for their software DAW, with the Push. We’ve seen it used any number of ways since it was first released in 2013 – sequencing drums, samples, and FX alongside DJ setups or for crafting songs from scratch.
Starting yesterday, Ableton has put on a flash sale of their Push controller – something that we’ve never seen from the company before. Perhaps the upcoming Launchpad Pro release (expected at the end of July) and the new Launchpad MK2 annoucement last week has the company concerned about their place in the hardware world.
Alternately, armchair internet speculation suggests that Ableton’s sale is making room in their inventory for a new product. Is the Push 2 around the corner? Based on what we heard from the company at NAMM, it didn’t seem like there was any major release upcoming this year. The company seems to work in four-year cycles, with Live 8 coming out in 2009, and then Live 9 in 2013. Similarly, Ableton’s last hardware project, the Akai APC 40, came out in 2009, with the Push arriving in 2013.
Either way, aside from buying a used Push, this seems like the best deal that we’ll see all year for the instrument – if you’re interested in taking advantage of it, we’re taking orders here in the store, just $419 (down from $599).
