Part 1. (BASICS)
The VCI-100SE Version 3 mapping is hands down one of most ambitious and powerful mapping we have released yet. This brand new version brings together all of our best ideas from the past 2 years and condenses them into an easy-to-use interface that should have something for everyone. We stripped away the fat, improved the core features and made everything more simple. Along with a few technical MIDI breakthroughs that enable new work-flows — such as 8 cue points — this file also introduces a new concept called instant FX, which you absolutely want to check out. The 2 instant FX buttons automatically set up a perfect effect with all routing and configuration, so you don’t have to think about anything. When combined with the jog wheel, they produce killer sounds and very expressive transitions.
Part 2. (FX TRICKS)
LIVE TUTORIAL SESSION
On Saturday we hosted a live broadcast in the DJ TechTools studio that covered this mapping and general Traktor Pro questions. Check that out here for a deeper look into the controller.
Hi, i have a vestax vci-100 with fw 1.4 upgrade.
Im trying to use this mapping, and almost everything works fine, except the sampling part. Do i have to activate something under traktor for that? y do everythink as in the tutorial, but nothing happens 🙁
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance
Is there a (starting-point) VCI-100 midi map file for Traktor Pro out there?
Thanks silek! Your configuration is close to that I use with Traktor 3. But with your tsi-file, it is not possible for me to scratch. Using vinyl-mode the jog-wheels don’t work at all. Also the effect section does not work for me
Wanted to try your second configuration. But it’s down.
Strange, no midi dir on my Windows machine. THANK YOU for the files.
Yeah its included in the download, press the import button in the preferences menu and then look in the midi mappings folder.
Hey the mappings great, i cant seem to be able to find out how to browse or scan through a track?? (just to make sure its the actually the right one)can someone help.. thanks.
this is wicked sick. i wish i got the SE version, but unfortunately, i just ordered the standard VCI 100 a couple days ago. anyway DJTT puts out mappings and updates for the non SE version of the VCI100? or anyone know where to find out? im just curious as to how advanced the standard mapping is
Hi Ean – Many Thanks for all your great work. I for one believe that you are right to charge for the overlays and if people want to use your clever TSI’s then they should be prepared to pay something.
Anyway I just wanted to check if it is still possible to use the jogwheel to select tracks in the browser window like I just watched in an old video??? This is a great idea and it would be great if it’s in the new mapping… anyone know?
Cheers
@the House > I had the same feeling when I first bought my VCI SE but every overlay untill now (2) brought us many great improvements. Yes, I know, It’s going very fast and you just have time to get used to one that it changes… Ok. But If you don’t need all the options, keep yours or buy a blank one where you changes the labels when you want without spending a penny.
But,for me, the new overlay is not an option as it really brings ease of use for juggling and Fxs and 4 deck control.
There are a lot of people that think we could charge for the mappings because they are so unique but I have refused to do that. We let you use it for free and then purchase to overlay to help support the creators and cover our costs. That seems to be a win-win situation for our customers and us.
it seems like a very fair trade, if you want to use the new mapping permanently- support us with the purchase of a new overlay. If not- no big deal you can continue to sue the old one or the new mapping for free.
Continue like this… I bought a VCI100 SE and the two overlays that came after (I just received the last one) and I’ve planned to buy a midifighter later this year when the setup will be more efficient (and there is no doubt for me that it will be when I look toward the 3.4 TSI and what you all did since the first Traktor pro release).
For the moment, I use my VCI once or twice a week without a glitch and untill the things turn bad, I ‘ll remain a loyal customer.
Your business model has all my sympathy. It’s respectful of the customers, it grows slowly but surely and to me (and many others) you represent the future of digital mixing.
Keep going!

Really?? I mean like I mentioned before, I can appreciate the time and they do a great job, but seriously I just bought an overlay 6 months ago. It’s just doing good business. We spent the past 6 months working really hard on this new mapping. Countless man hours went into testing and refining that mapping. How else are we going to re-coup that cost other than to charge for a new overlay?
I am all for giving back to loyal customers but further discounting the overlays is just not an option. Any other suggestions will be considered fully.

I have to agree on the discount for earlier purchases of the overlay, Im def gonna get annonyed at having to pay the same price as a newcomer,as it were, I have purchased quite a few things from DJTT , and that ‘to keep up with the jones’ I have to buy another overlay…………Cmon guys play fair and give us a little discount……or some free buttons or something!.
Just received my VCI 100 SE Arcade last night…. its crazy cool… learning all the tricks…. no sleep last night LOL…. hey is there any way to download these tutorials instead of streaming?
Thanks DJTT

My only real gripe is track selection. Anyway an up/down repeat function could be added? That way instead of pushing the up/down buttons continuously to navigate long lists, you can just press and hold? Is this possible?
I was DJing last night, and it hit me that i can just hold down the up/down arrows on my laptop keyboard to “fast” scroll long lists…

I agree with this.
Ean,
So now that I’ve bought an overlay 6 months ago for the old VCI Mapping version 2, do I have to re-purchase a new overlay? I mean I know you guys spend countless hours perfecting this awesome controller mapping and this is a business for you all, but is there any kind of discount I can get on the new overlay since I just bought version 2 already? I think it would be a good customer service move. Either that or throw in some knobs or something with the new overlay 🙂
BTW, I love the site and it should have been entered in the IDMAs. I would have voted for sure!

@Dan
There you go. There’s nothing wrong with preference & I agree with you. A serious turntablist wouldn’t need to be here. Welcome, yes. Need, nah.
Ean,
Who’s the guy scratching @ the beginning of tutorial pt. 1? Any special setups or configurations or is that just a case of practice makes perfect?
MAY I SUGGEST A DISCOUNT FOR CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE PURCHASED PREVIOUS OVERLAY VERSIONS. 3 OVERLAYS COSTING OVER $90 IS TOO MUCH..
Hey ean I found a little bug with the mapping i hope you guys can fix. If you turn scratch off and use the echo effect the echo freeze doesn’t work…
WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN!!!!!!!!!
Just got my new overlay on, dl’ed the Traktor Pro 1.2.4 update & imported the V3.3 SE mapping. This raises the bar to a level which all controllers should be set.
Fucking fabulous!
Great work DJTTs! Thanks a bunch!!!

i guess that qbert comment was a hoax, but they did name of several dmc champions who all use

I do have a question thou..
I was trying to import this TSI file,
but it didn’t let me import MIDI mapping and Hotkey settings. (couldn’t click on boxes on select categories to import menu)
any idea?

Has anyone attempted to a design and print their own overlay for the VCI??? Want the new mappings so need new overlay, was gonna put a personal touch on it and design and somehow make the overlay myself…maybe a graphic or something!!!
Dont mind purchassing TechTools pre-made one but wanted something a bit more personal like!!

oh and @Dan, you’re a fucking tool.. the extent of your DJ career clearly spans to watching the legends scratch on youtube, and then glancing over at your 1200s feeling ashamed at your lack of talent/dedication. who are you, Qbert’s lawyer? you need to get out more..
I couldn’t read this without my 2cents on Dan.
I get your point Dan. Several of us (including me) came from the turntable days. Scratching, body tricks, the whole 9. The Controllerism age is not trying to claim that this is better, requires more (or less) skill. It’s just another way to entertain a crowd (who could give a rat’s *ss how you’re doing it).
In TV, all shows once were live. Early on, editing involved tape splicing & stacks of compressors. Now a guy on a laptop & 1 camera can make A HIT MOVIE! Can you say Paranormal activity?
Dan, if you’re one of the highly skilled in the traditional area of turntables, I personally commend you (feel free to post a youtube if you can handle the feedback). But give these guys & me a break. We don’t spin for ourselves, we spin for the people. There are guys who rock stadiums with tens of thousands of people for tens of thousands of dollars AND the controller is on the big screens. If you wanna do your 7 year old a service, teach him how to book one of those gigs & he can buy us all lunch.
I’m just having fun with you Dan but really, it’s just another way to do it. Not better, not worse, not anything. Just another way. Don’t take it all so seriously. There are vinyl purists who STILL wonder why you turntable dudes keep altering their masterpieces of jazz & R&B by putting your fingerprints all over the vessel that carry those classic sounds. See the pattern? Again, it’s just another way.
You’ll never catch most of the Food Network chef’s in a McDonald’s drive thru. But over a BILLION people don’t mind that their burger isn’t a hand-pressed, grade A ground beef, grilled patty in the backyard. I’ve got a million of ’em. It’s just another way dude. Just another way. I would like to see a video of you. Not to judge but because I do still love & respect turntable DJ’s. If you don’t, it’s all good & hopefully all is sincerely well with you.
Peace & blessings!
I’m using a regular VCI-100 with a filmware upgrade but I’m not having any luck with some of the features such as the fx preset setup and the lights when trying to sample a song…any suggestions? is there another version of the filrmware update that needs to be used?
Im having the same problem as you. I know this message is too old, and i dont know if u’ll read this, but if you do… did you solve the problem? 🙂
Thanks a lot!
@dan. I can control using my VCI and also have my Decks with TC vinyl. I now have both worlds and can use both. I now need a challenge…which is getting to learn to use both together. This is to give a better performance and keep me learning and enjoying. Whats wrong with that? Take a look at DJ Rafik latest vids. Tell me that is not a new style of jamming tunes together. Sure….thats just a showcase….but think of the madness he can pull using all that shit for a few hours. Come on mate…..your ignorance is showing…..no offense.
The workflow is top notch on this mapping.
Not sure about the dedicated slicer button tho. I woulda picked a different effect for that button (will prob swap it out for something else). props for an amazing effort and hard work.
My only real gripe is track selection. Anyway an up/down repeat function could be added? That way instead of pushing the up/down buttons continuously to navigate long lists, you can just press and hold? Is this possible?
this is awesome, best mapping for this thing i’ve seen yet. im loving the dedicated deck c and d buttons. two questions, 1) are you going to put up the info for how we can change what we want our 4 preset fx to be and 2) does this mapping glitch/work for the earliest generation of vci 100s (i got mine when they first came out)
wha version of traktor pro is this mapping made for?
my fx slots dont look like that
Really can’t belive some of the closed minded comments dropping out of Dan’s mouth, wot on earth is he doing on this blog if this is his feeling towards digital dj’n!?
++++++
I’ve been a turntablist for 13 years, been to watch dmc world finals 8 time’s and counting. I don’t claim to be an amazing scratch dj, but there isn’t a thing about the scratch scene I don’t know. (Please check the uploads on my youtube channel if you need proof of my scratch abilities http://www.youtube.com/user/djdubadutch )
++++++
With all this to take into account, I look at the digital dj as cheating or easy, hell no! If Dan understood or new anything about turntablism he’d remember all the similar closed minded comment’s made by the so called purist’s when scratch/battle records first turned up. A turntablist is someone who maximizes the creative use of there equipment, some one who endeavors to venture outside the traditional dj box. Which is why any real pro turntablist would respect a real pro controllerist, rather than just prove how little he knows by making embarrassing uneducated comments.
+++++++
What are your dj credentials then Dan? at least if you was a red hot scratch dj you might have a tiny platform to base your wise words on. Come on lets see a link to prove why you think your in the position to make these comments.
+++++++
Sure there’s plenty of guys giving digital dj’s a bad name by using powerful dj software to only mix traditionally and yeah there’s many youtube vids of Traktor djs playing with one effect in its rawest form for 5mins. But there’s many dj’s who are using software to do things that just aren’t possible on turntable’s to great effect. It’s not about what you use it’s what you do with it.
++++++
While my juggling skills aren’t anything to get to excited about, I can perform many of the top end scratch’s. Soooo what…. just because I’ve learnt to accurately cut the fader to precise record movements doesn’t make me any better than a dj who’s perfected fx use and cue point juggling.
Dan you need to learn a lot.
Beatmixing was the first form of Djing even before scratching.
props djtechtool.1 question-progressive pitch bend.???im missing it.anyone else?
Give it some henry!
I think what Ean and all the DJTT have done and will keep on doing is cracking! Learnt loads since reading their site6 months a go! I think its brilliant the way music, djing and producing changes. Keeps things fresh! Yeah the VCI can be a bit daunting with multi functioning buttons etc but you get a heap of tunes ready and get ya stuff set-up at a house party and get ya head down all night on it, you will be still be having fun and creating something new at 6 in the morning! Ive never been more pleased with a purchase! With traktor you can pull of a pretty much flawless mix but its all the extra bits combined with the VCI you can do which make it special! Just wish I was as good as Ean ha
DEAD SMART!
Absolutely amazing mapping. Well done DJTT.
my up faders wont work with the fader fx mode but every thing else works ok any ideas
@ Ean:
Great job!Only one question (please!)
Is the fx preset “switch function” obtained by complex midi mappings or I miss something??
-Thanx-
dang forgot to include my name!
will definately be implementing the fx presets into my current mapping on my rig. Also like how the jog controls two fx parameters at once in the video. Do you find that it limits creativity since the motion only performs one routine of the effect? Or can you control the advanced fx however you want in your mapping? Also how does the midi fighter work in conjuction with the 3.0 mapping?

Also, I’m on the list for a new overlay, are they going to be sent out soon?
do turntablists hate the internet too? its killing the pure artform of libraries!
@ Dan
I think everyone here will agree that it is each to their own. I don’t think that I have ever heard Fat Boy Slim or Tiesto scrtach and beat juggle in the times i have heard their sets, just like I don’t think I have seen Qbert beat mixing electro and making 1000’s of people dance at a festival? The 2 things you are talking about require totally different skill sets and I think if you asked either of those sets of people, each would respect the other for what they do. I personally can’t scratch very well but rarely need it in the sort of sets I play. When I play I like to have control of the four decks, i like the ability to play with FX and looping on the hop. To take things to the next level you need these in a system like traktor and a actuator to allow this to happen (ie the VCI 100SE). I think you’re comment about your nephew is naive as I’m sure if you asked him to try and produce a set like Ean he would get no where near? Ean has spent years of his life to get to this point and make this mapping and for you to just quash it in a throw away comment shows that you obviously don’t understand.
We all love music and manipulate it in our own way and just want to make people dance, that’s all Qbert wants to do and the same as Fat Boy Slim. Let people do what they do, skill is involved at every level!! Don’t hate?
Dan, noone cares mate! Get it a grip ye fat mess.
post your 7 year old sons mix Dan the Man im sure its fucking amazing.
I gave my 7 year old nephew a go on traktor and he made a nice little set, with loops, sync two tunes and twiddled some effects, infact I was shocked I could of sworn it was craze. But when I got him on the sl1200 and asked him to scratch even the basics or just loop two beats guess what he couldnt.
Thats the same for alot of wannabe djs on here, there too lazy to learn real skills and dont try to say usuing traktor takes the same skill and dececation as qbert etc you will just make your self look stupid.
Childsplay.
@ Dan; Whether you’re scratchin, jugglin, controllin loopin or just plain mixin it up…..it don’t matter whats in the bag; We got oldskool cats rockin vinyl or the digitalists loopin shiza up with Traktor. At the end of the day, we’re all here for the music. Right?
On that front…..DJTT holdin it down. Fact. I havn’t seen anyone sharing the love in this scene with this kind of dedacation.
Serious props for the DJTT team from your boys in Amsterdam.
Props to you guys, this is amazing and I can’t wait to get my SE now. Nearly there with the cash!!!
I think the layout now seems to be better and the dedicate Slice/ Echo seems a good addition, still think the sampler is one of the best things, allows so much creativity. The fader FX seem to have been tightened up which works well, will have to wait and see when I get mine.
@ Dan –
Hes there pressing a few button and turning the wheel at random to turn on and off effects
As opposed to moving a record on platter and moving the cross fader backwards and forwards a few times? This is a very general view, I’m not getting at you mate but that’s just like saying that playing a piano is just hitting a few keys in the right order, building a house is sticking a couple of bricks together. Slightly missing the point me thinks.
Wow!
Thanks for the incredible new mapping. I really think this mapping hit a new level of efficiency and intuitiveness. Although a couple people have said that it is too complicated, I think with a little bit of practice 3.0 will be both easier to use and more powerful than 2.5.
I can’t imagine what you’re going to find to improve for a 3.5 mapping down the road! I’m thinking that the next level is going to be a really full on, integrated DJ TechTools mapping for the vci-100 + midi fighter mk.2 + foot pedal(s)… Something that really explores the boundaries of that next level intuitive control and expression that Ean is referring to.
I also wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone here for maintaining a such a high standard of communication on this site. This is honestly the the most pleasant internet community that I have ever encountered. I think that the open and respectful communication that exists here is essential to really nurture creative growth and collaboration! I was already stoked on this sight, but the creation of the MidiFighter, this new mapping, and the maturity of Ean’s response to Dan have really just put me over the top!
Thanks and mad props to everyone who makes up Dj TechTools!

In reality, my 2 personal goals have been totally in line with what Dan wants- he is just getting caught up in the medium.
Goal # 1. Make a controller playable as an instrument (like a turntable). Not so they can replace turntablists but so we can jam together in an expressive and free form manner. The midi-fighter is almost there, but I readily admit we have not succeeded yet in creating this instrument.
People need to remember the time it took to take us from grand-master flash to Q-bert. Nearly 20 years! Dan would have probably said a similar thing back then too:
” All the dj seems to do is move the record back and forth, which even a trained chimp could manage”
Chimps can also blow air into a tube, but its the manner in which its done that creates a Miles Davis.
GOAL # 2. Create controller interfaces and mappings that are so intuitive and fluid that the dj can lose themselves in the mix taking everyone on a journey (dj and audience).
I personally came from playing desert raves in the mid 90’s to deep underground house and techno and it was always about the journey. Controllers dont make it any less so, you just have to learn the instrument so well that is disappears and all thats left is the experience.
You guys just have officially lifted MIDI mapping into rocket science. The results are nothing short of amazing and spectacular. However, it requires some serious devotion and training to get comfortable to these kind of triple-function-per-button mappings in front of a live audience. Only for the real controllerists…
@Dan, We bow down to you and your superior race of journey takers and fr-fr-freeshers! Your right that is far superior to whats happening here and if Ean was blending one prog record into another over and over for 6 hrs or scratchin so much it makes him itch I’m sure he would get a haircut.

is neither and that’s why it will never be accepted
along side them two as standard.
All the controller seems to do is turn on and off different effects, which even a trained chimp could manage.
There is just no skill invovled in this way of djing. Watch ean along side a scratch dj a certain events and I feel embarassed for him. Hes there pressing a few button and turning the wheel a random to turn on and off effects, no wonder he hides behind is hair.
SAD.
Right, but scratching died in 1999 and most of the so called “scratchers” are rudimentary at best. What’s awesome on the VCI is that you control four decks alongside a ton of other things. Last time I checked, you can’t scratch on four decks or loop them up live, let alone keep it all in sync.

Removing the old overlays is a bit of a chore but it can be done with some tugging. We found that a hair dryer helps soften up the adhesive and make it easier to pull off. The easiest and recommended way is just to place the new one right on top of the old (we specifically chose an adhesive that allows for that)

No need for DJ elitism here. These are two different modes of playing–turntablism and controllerism. I would like to see you create the kind of mapping and innovative technological advances he has done. Or you can scratch along some Flo Rida.

You probably have an older version of Traktor Pro. Please make sure your using 1.24 or later and it should import without any problems.

Too complicated? Good tools take time to learn and practice to master. This is an industrial strength mapping, you want simple to use? Look elsewhere. Pretty much everywhere else does “simple to use”, but don’t have half the functionality of this mapping.
Awesome work. The last mapping was all about FX and it made them useable, this mapping has tightly integrated workflows for cues and juggling. So happy!
Had my VCI for 3 months……I love it……it goes so well with Traktor!!!
Ive told my bro to sell up his 800’s and go digital…..all ya music….so many FX and tools to use…
The VCI is an awesome piece of kit….i really dont know who is gonna top it TBH…for a while!! It can do almost everything thats needed….with a little help from DJTT
are you using this mapping michiel.what functions per buttons are making it un-intuative for you because the only ones i can think of are the loop/effect ones which if you used the 2.5 version before you wouldbe used to it.personally this one rocks for me.or it will when i can get it working properly.
Hmmm… am I the only that thinks it’s way to complicated (too many functions to one button) to make it intiutive?
I think this is a positive thing and what makes the whole controllerism/digital DJing experience unique.

nice work djtt! i ordered my vci-100se recently, does it come with the latest mapping and overlay??
2nd on that, if i order one now will it have 3.0 overlay or still the one for 2.0?
I ordered my VCI-100SE at the beginning of January and I have emailed back and forth a bit and the new batch should be coming out with the new 3.0 overlays.
I’m still trying to learn the old mapping and overlay. Fawk!!! This was insane. Wonder if I can copy some of the modifiers into the old mapping.
is there gonna be a video available about vci 300 and fx1 mapping with midipipe for itch?
That`s awesome mapping and really amazing solution! I`ll try to use it and write a mapping 4 my BCD2000!
Hmmm… am I the only that thinks it’s way to complicated (too many functions to one button) to make it intiutive?
INSANE!!!!!!!!!!! cant wait for the new overlay
Weeeeee! I’ve been waiting for these vids with much excitement – thanks Ean! Pre-ordered the overlays a few weeks ago. Can’t wait to get them on my VCI-100 so I can actually know what buttons I’m pressing 🙂
Haha, two last question sum up what I came here to ask, so yeah! Overlay and cool look on FX?
I’ve generally kept things modular when buying controllers. But every time a post come’s up about the vci I get filled with envy. This looks like a great mapping, good work!

in the same boat here. i think i knoe exactly what im saving up for next!!!!!! YEOW!
How do you get the fx parameters as they are in the 2nd video?
by that I mean – not pots on the screen but wee lines. sorry dunno how to describe them!
So what is the procedure for putting on the NEW overlay if you have the OLD/updated overlay? Does it pull off easy? Do we lay the new overlay right over the previous? I ordered mine Monday. Let us know. I wanna slap it on as soon as I get it.
wow.amazing!!!!!!!!11
God dam I’m in controller limbo! I’m a digital dj via dvs, so having an all in 1 controller like the vci 100 with turntable’s and a mixer has always seemed like a bit of a over kill, so I’ve generally kept things modular when buying controllers. But every time a post come’s up about the vci I get filled with envy. This looks like a great mapping, good work!
++
Does any one here use a vci 100 to complement there dvs set up, the fader fx really draws me in. But it’s so annoying the virtual faders can’t be used when in external mode, I’d love to use a vci to control decks c and d while using dvs to control a and b. Fingers crossed N.I will free up the virtual faders in future updates!
